Apple's iPhone 3G to go on sale at 8:00AM on July 11th?

Don't take a vacation day just yet or anything, but early word has it that Apple's iPhone 3G will actually go on sale at 8:00AM (local time, most likely) on July 11th. If you'll recall (how could you forget, right?), the original iPhone didn't go on sale until 6:00PM on launch day, but considering that the whole checkout process will likely be a fair bit more involved this go 'round, we'd say it's a smart move to get the line rolling early.

I sold my 4gb 2G for $200 a week ago, ill be waiting cuz the phone I'm using now is a cingular 8125 with a dead touch screen and fucked up buttons and I'm definately looking forward to havin an iphone back in hand instead of this bulky ass thing.

I was at an Apple Store about a week ago and happened to catch a glance at their 3G iPhone fact sheet. On the sheet it mentioned that the launch time would be 6:00PM local time. Who knows, maybe the launch time wasn't set in stone at the time.

I have purchased an Instinct and will be returning it very soon. The interface is inconsistent, the contact manager is sorely lacking and the browser is just not right.

It is a neat little phone but not nearly as nice as an iPhone. I have been a Palm/Treo user for years and I am debating about iPhone or Treo/Centro.

I like the Iphone but I hate at&t with such a passion I will never be under their craptastic service and even worse customer support again. Apple should have released the phone free of carriers and it would have sold a lot more phones. I just have my fingers crossed the LG Dare will be alright.

Apparently, the various carriers are extremely difficult to negotiate with when it comes to implementing new functionality on their networks. Apparently a big part of why Apple chose one specific carrier was to ensure they could implement Visual Voicemail properly.

Negotiating with multiple carriers would have either led to delays or the removal of certain features they deemed important.

Not that I know how much truth there is to that, but I believe that was the reasoning.
