Daewoo Lucoms hops in low-cost laptop game with Lukid
Daewoo Lucoms is no stranger to building smallish computers, but it seems to have taken a few obvious design cues from Intel's 2go PC when crafting its own Lukid. According to the firm's site, this kid-friendly PC includes a 900MHz Celeron M ULV processor, 512MB of DDR2 RAM, a 9-inch display, 30GB hard drive and Windows XP Home Edition. There's also two USB jacks, audio in / out, WiFi, Ethernet and a rather unsightly (though quite useful, we imagine) carry handle. Expect this one to land in South Korea for around ?549,000 ($531), though we haven't heard a peep in regard to availability elsewhere in the world.

does "kid friendly" mean it's drool and cereal proof? easy to wipe off keyboard? screen able to withstand being dropped from a 3 foot table onto a YMCA talking Elmo? what about it's booger wipeability factor- over .35 on the crusting scale? how many thrown lincoln logs can it take before breaking?

I don't think the headset that the kid in the photo is wearing is plugged in to the Lukid. The audio ports on the left side (facing us) aren't occupied, and if the headset is USB the cord shouldn't be visible behind the child leading away from the computer.

This is an Intel Classmate with a LUKID logo photoshopped onto it.

The handle is a great feature. I can allready see all the kids in the class using it swing it around, hitting table sides :)
Nice idea though, a kid friendly laptop with full functionality. Don't see those much.

Isn't Daewoo a weapons manufacturer?

I will be the one to say it, WHY THEY HELL DO KIDS NEED A FULL FUNCTION LAPTOP?!??
seriously, shouldn't they be using there imagination or somthing, and playing with toys and such? you know, the things needed for proper child development?
the idea grosses me out.

Why do kids need fully functioning laptops? In Korea, it's simple:
Starcraft
Kids need to develop their PvP skills too, you know.

I just bought one of these in Chiang Mai, Thailand for a mere USD $350 and find it to be an ideal machine for my Daughter. 1GB RAM, 30GB Hard Disk, WiFi and Ethernet Network connection in addition to outstanding graphics at up to 1024x768. We use it within the home which allows her access to the immense 4TB Homer Server setup available. The carrying handled makes it even more attractive for a young child of her age.
