Intel's 2.8GHz Core 2 Extreme Mobile X9000 gets tested
Who says you need a desktop chip packed within a 3-inch thick, 15-pound beast of a "laptop" to get decent FPS while at a LAN party? Intel's speedy Core 2 Extreme Mobile X9000 checks in at 2.8GHz (prior to overclocking, of course), and promises to punish today's latest games while sipping less power and generating less heat than the aforementioned alternatives. The gurus over at HotHardware were able to sit down with said chip and put it to the test; overall, the Mobile X9000 "proved itself to be as fast as its desktop counterparts in many scenarios, all the while consuming less power as a complete system in the Dell XPS M730 notebook testbed." If you're the type that gets all hot and bothered by benchmarks and graphs, there's plenty of those in the read link below.

But will it run Vista?
ch3no2 @ Jun 24th 2008 4:16PM
another person who has never used vista? or just one that is upset that technology isnt always developed for the lowest common demoniator......upgrade the cyrix..vista will be fine
Fernando @ Jun 24th 2008 4:21PM
It will run Vista. Vista just has a problem running itself.
GadgetTamer @ Jun 24th 2008 4:28PM
Vista runs fine on my 2.8 Pentium D with DDR1 333. i think this chip can handle it just fine.
Mile @ Jun 24th 2008 4:42PM
Does anyone remember laughter? Nobody has a sense of humor anymore...
DonatoM3 @ Jun 24th 2008 4:43PM
I have vista running flawlessly on my 2.16 ghz Core 2 Duo mobile processor.
nizzy1115 @ Jun 24th 2008 6:13PM
Maybe we would laugh if you were funny.
Andrew @ Jun 24th 2008 7:28PM
Everyone remembers laughter. Just nobody remembers exactly what in your post was funny. I wonder why that could be.
I have one of these in my laptop and I can categorically state that yes, yes it can run Vista. And Doom. And Crysis. So let's not go there, either.
Christy McGrory @ Jun 24th 2008 8:19PM
HAHAHAHAHA I read HotHardware as HotHardcore. But then again that's probably me and my perverted brain. Oh yeah and you aren't funny Vista guy, I don't think there is any sense of humor in today's stupid, Americanized world. OH SHI...
Sski @ Jun 25th 2008 10:19AM
Vista sucks. I won't touch it as well as millions of others. Even MS admits it by suporting XP till 2014. Looks like we're stuck with XP(32) for 6 more years. Not enough vendors want to support XP64.
Acerei @ Jun 24th 2008 10:48PM
LOL, well done, that did make me laugh.
And indeed your delivery was perfect, and it was also the first post, which makes it near perfect.
Good job.
To the rest. Well.. A little up-tight I will admit.

that was a pointless chain of posts!!
kccboy2004 @ Jun 24th 2008 4:37PM
Hmm why did they do this on a Dell ?
Why not on an Apple ? Oh right... coz....hmm...nope that can't be right....
My mate here says that they did not test this on an Apple, coz what is the point, this chip is gonna be used for more than just surfing the web, this is going to be for mind blowing gaming and intensive work applications.
Keep 'lappin' up that Apple stuff. You suckers !!
Bender Bending Rodriguez @ Jun 24th 2008 5:00PM
Apple is using the 2.6GHz Penryns, which is the faster mobile Penryn at 35W while those X9xxx use 44W. Besides the significant battery drain it would also require a thicker chassis for additional/larger heat sinks and/or fans, which is why the Dell XPS M1730 these chips are going in are such behemoths.

MORE FLAMEWARZ PLZ

"At 2.8GHz with a full 6MB of L2 cache and a TDP of 35 Watts, this chip is currently Intel's fastest notebook CPU for the performance enthusiast, gaming, and multimedia markets, aka the Desktop Replacement (DTR) crowd."

the forces of good prevail again
kal326 @ Jun 24th 2008 4:46PM
What I want to know is how well it compares against the .2Ghz slower and certainly less "Extreme"ly priced T9500? Granted it can't overclock, but you will probably save yourself $400 or more in price.

Maybe they will remember laughter, once you learn delivery.
Mile @ Jun 24th 2008 5:38PM
The delivery was perfect! Peeps are always asking if it will run some game, so I flipped it and asked if it would run Vista. On top of that, there's all the apple fans. Shirley, I should have gotten highest ranking on that!
waterboy99troop @ Jun 24th 2008 7:08PM
@ Mile
your delivery was terrible... and don't call him Shirley...
Christy McGrory @ Jun 24th 2008 8:20PM
Nice quote from COD there ;)
Meta @ Jun 27th 2008 8:15PM
Actually that quotes originally from Airplane! (an 80's spoof movie).
SnowFire @ Jun 24th 2008 6:38PM
This processor is pretty sweet. I have it running in my XPS m1330, though it does get pretty toasty if you are running some sort of folding program. Other than that, it's really packs a wallop when running games.
applefan @ Jun 24th 2008 8:34PM
AMD FTW!
IT-Accountant @ Jun 24th 2008 10:08PM
I find it ironic that someone called "applefan" is touting the "win" of AMD processors... which Mac computers don't use....
