Off topic... I've always wondered this. Why no horizontal keyboard for text messaging on the iphone? It is enabled on the iphone, as the keyboard goes horizontal for meebo, why hasn't someone applied this concept to text messages? It seems like a pretty easy thing to do for the developers, am I miss the hack, is it out there on installer?
I also think the new camera lens looks larger.... could just be one of those optical illusions, though....
I'm gonna flip sh1t if the new one doesn't have a louder ringer/call volume/speakerphone. No excuse for that. :-/
my wife's iphone (Gen 1) quit working a few weeks ago and we had it replaced at the apple store. the screen on the new one was brighter (which makes sense) but the ringer and all sounds were noticeably louder - happy about that.
did anyone else notice that the Apple logo on the black one is distorted?

if you are talking about facial hair, I'm with you! I think I'm developing a facial bald spot. As far as the new look goes I don't give a crap, its got 3G and GPS, seriously, what more could you really ask for! ( rhetorical )
So, I think anyone questioning Engadgget's Apple Bias should have a look at the DOUBLE Apple ads at the top..

apple has been doing that for a while. it is one single ad if you look at it. its been on the nytimes and other sites a lot for about a year now.
not disagreeing with the "small" bias though.

Actually, neither CNN or CNET have any Apple ads in sight. Or else I haven't visited them enough recently to notice.

I don't care about the look as much as I care about the case finally being plastic! Better WiFi, 3G, and EDGE signals for all!
My apologies for getting off topic but I haven't heard a solid date as to when the newest software update (2.0) for iPhone will be. Anyone know?
well i dare say the white will show up LESS scratches and smudges than the black.

if the metal case (which i to had heard was actually some form of plastic??) was blocking so much signal then why are apple boasting about cleverly using the camera ring and metal bevel edge as ariels?
why couldnt they just make the metal back attached to the ariels??

why do any of you care what it looks like, you're all just gonna F up the design of it anyway by putting it in some weak case.
I hates me some iPhone, but the 3G unit looks pretty sweet. Not sweet enough to make me want to switch to AT&T, but still very nice.
I know there's this whole exclusivity thing with AT&T, but it would be nice to see these on a CDMA network.

Although I will admit that I hate Apple, I will also admit that the iPhone 3G is tempting. A deal breaker for me: durability. That plastic cover will scratch the first time it enters my hands.
As far as the white one, I think it looks about as ridiculous as people who wear white sunglasses.

IMO, the two tone color scheme on the back of the old one looks stupid. I like the looks of the new one better, though I'd prefer a flat back instead of the gloss.
Really who cares about the appearance so much?
Is not a dress, is a phone that more things have inside better will be. 3G and GPS are welcomed but I wish other features also.

...again, many have already pointed out that the round back may rock when placed on a flat surface. I like my aluminium-back iphone, although the white one looks attractive - matching my macbook.

The new iphone is going to rock. I was reading the LA times today and I blogged about a article on savvywallet.com about how women are furious because the iphone is not compatible with long finger nails. They are saying Apple is misogynistic because they did not incorporate a stylus in the design of the phone. Are you kidding me?
Anyone else bothered by the fact that this is an entirely pointless article? Haven't we seen pictures of both? What's so amazing about then physically sitting next to each other? I'm tired of the pointless iPhone posts.
