No, really...
more rumors of Panasonic shifting R&D yen into OLED televisions? Oh you betcha, albeit this time with the specifics of a 37-inch OLED targeted for a retail launch in the next three years. Japanese newspaper, Sankei Shimbu, is reporting that the OLED panels will be produced on a parallel assembly line at
Panasonic's new IPS Alpha factory. Without offering any specifics, Panny did have the decency to confirm that it's working on OLED technology -- something
we already knew about. With consumers and editors alike awestruck by OLED display technology and
Sony and
Samsung already official committed to delivering medium to large panels in 2009/2010, only the chatter of Panasonic
not pursuing OLED as a future panel technology would surprise us.

Death comes to LCD, I can hardly wait for that POS display technology to vanish!

You've got to love it. Can't imagine though how much it's going to cost!?

That depends on how many people with really tiny fingers they have working the line putting these things together.

Panasonic is moving toward commercialization of OLED (organic light-emitting diode) panels and plans to put TVs with 37-inch OLED screens on sale in the next three years, according to a Japanese newspaper report.

Why are you repeating the blog post?

Hooray for those who haven't updated their TV to rear projection, plasma or LCD! They can just skip all that nonsense entirely and head on up to OLED with the money they saved.

You could say the same about the smart set who did'nt yet upgrade from the horse buggy to the motorcar.
Pretty soon they can hope to be able to upgrade directly to the spaceship

What is the point of posting a comment like that? It's not even clever or funny, it's just stupid.

I've been waiting for this since I saw a 15" OLED display at Sanyo's CES booth in 2003. It had an absolutely gorgeous picture and was unbelievably thin. Now I'm considering getting and LCD in the 37" - 40" range...
If only they would hurry up and come out with these OLED screens now!

i dont think its gonna be the death of lcd if they do come out in 2010. all new display technologies have problems when theyre first launched and this wont be different. i bet the picture will be gorgious but the life of the panel wont be so great (just look at the reviews of the sony oled tv). i say it wont be til 2020 til they iron out most of the bugs. i wouldnt mind seeing oled screens in laptops though. saves battery life, and most people dont keep computers more than 5 years so display life isnt as much as a problem.

Gee, don't you think 2020 is a little optimistic?
