There is probably some freak lining up outside the store right now...
In a bit of a sidenote, where's clak?
Clak would be one of the aforementioned freaks lining up outside the Apple store.
Maybe those freaks will get attacked by orcs. Lord of the Rings was filmed in New Zealand you know? Lots of orcs in that movie.
Oh wait it's just a movie you say?... No my life is now....
and what about Steffen Jobs?
There is only one wank lining up. But must be a super wank cause the iPhone in NZ is a complete RIP OFF. The $199 iPhone is only available on a 2yr plan of $250 per MONTH !!! (only 1GB data and hardly any phone mins) FUCK THAT !!! We are worse off than Canada. Watch this video of NZ reporter John Campbell Ripping Vodafone Apart on Live TV ! - Digg it too - http://digg.com/apple/Vodafone_NZ_Slaughtered_on_TV_about_Outrageous_iPhone_Plans
Yes, there are in fact two freaks already lining up:

I'd also just like to take this opportunity to let those who are uneducated (or stupid) exactly where New Zealand is:

and

Note: New Zealand is not anywhere near Europe and is not part of Australia. Not that there is anything wrong with Australia :)
And just like New Mexico, New Zealand is neither new nor Zealand.
And just like New Mexico, New Zealand is neither new nor Zealand.
Mt Eden Auckland checking in!
go go clak clak
don't forget to wear a turbin and bring some toothpaste on ur flight over
Bring a pickle jar wired to a digital clock
Bring some Taco Bell ok? I want something really unhealthy (but strangely delicious and irresistible) while I wait in line.
We have Pizza Hut, Dominos, KFC, Wendys, Burger King, but no Taco Bell . WTF???
1. Go to new zealand and buy iphone.
2. Place on ebay.com with a "ships today 7/10/08.
3.?????????????
4. Profit
I believe that this would actually work due to some non-intelligent ebayer
you are going to go to New Zealand just to buy an iPhone and put it up for sale? genius...
when every some on does a 1.something 2.something 3.???? 4.profit
is never serious. Get with the current internet lingo please.
1. Post a joking comment
2. Have comment replied to as if it's serious
3. ??????????????
4. Profit
No one ever does the ???? Profit thing correctly.
You're supposed to leave out a step!
@Bender Bending Rodriguez
actualy it would be profit for engadget
comments = site visits which lead to ad clicks and that my sir is profit !
who clicks ads? that would be silly. so I have ad block plus for firefox, I see no ads. Its almost like magic.
this deserved a "breaking" tag?
Slow news day.
O.K. i get it engadget, you're madly in love with iPhone, that's fine. But your emotional diarrhea started way too early, again.
P.S. i own 2 iphones but fortunately that doesn't make me go to the toilet 3rd time today.
Ha! I went 5 times yesterday without 1 iPhone!
Excellent...one of the first times I recall living in NZ has paid off...
Pineapple lumps? ..wait...
ahaha if only we hadn't been partying the night before we might of got diamonds
btw don't forget the pavlova!!!!
Celtic,
Nice Inside joke :)
Apple is an American company.
I'm sorry that your comment failed.
Ironic you calling people retards
Yay for nz lol.
can anyone specify the nz price?
No, word on pricing in New Zealand yet. We're hanging on to see what Vodafone has in store for us for data plans.
http://www.stuff.co.nz/dominionpost/4604348a6479.html Says it'll be a 'Nice' price. ~$400NZD for the 16Gig iPhone 3G without a fixed term contract or free with one?
Now what? Just sleep a day and it's there!
*plans to do this, so he can go to apple store the night before and sell it to a dimwit for a very good profit*
...people who camp out a a *single product* are retards, wait a week people is it really that hard. On a side not camping out on Black Friday after thanksgiving is ok as long as you bring a heater, car battery,converter,tv,wii/ps2 ( dang guys that did it where i was at last year made about 2000 bucks buy renting time on then wii/ps2 and/or heat )
I camped out for a wii.
Am I retard?
well
http://www.engadget.com/profile/1950942/
kinda supports it but if you agree never to respond to the clak troll again i'll let you pass :^)
Well, Apple Corps (Beatles music licensing) is probably a Brit company...
Yep, you've failed. Its an American company. Poor Brit doesn't even know Cupertino is in California. Sad.
as a formerly fat american, i say how dare you sir! you have questioned my country's honor! i challange you to a duel! B2s at highnoon.
Hmm,
That's a bit rude. I sent them a email the day they announced the 3g iPhone about the NZ release date and they only post it know without any acknowledgment.
Matsta,
No offense brother, we got your email. But it was always assumed that NZ might go first due to its favorable time zone position. However, Apple could have pulled an Apple and restricted the rollout to the US first. Now we know differently.
Thomas
This has also been verified by maccrazy: http://www.maccrazy.net/2008/06/25/new-zealand-to-get-iphone-first/
They also intend to be at the event, so it looks like that will be the best place to get your iPhone 3G unboxing photos if you can't wait until it launches in the US.
When Steve said July 11th, didn't he mean July 11th in the US? Why would it go for sale a different day than announced in the country that the company is based out of?
uh.... just a wild guess, because july 11 = july 11?
Time zones boggle the minds of some of Engadget's more simple readers :)
San Francisco * Thu 5:01 AM
Umm... that's Thursday the 10th... I know I'm missing something, but instead of insulting my intelligence which is in the Genius area, would you care to explain?
Holy crap I just realized that it would go at 12:01AM corresponding to where you live. Holy crap, I'm sorry ^_^ I'm honestly usually pretty intelligence, I've just been really tired this week.
"World's first iPhone 3G on sale in New Zealand a day before the US"
So what, how is this news?
each time the iPhone goes on sale in every country you will make a big deal of it.
you ppl need to get your head out of steve jobs ass and blog on more interesting things technologys.
Not for EACH country; just for EACH release day among groups of countries.
It does get excessive, but you can't blame Engadget. Apple markets well to generate a lot of free press and between the people interested in the news posting and the people who hate the news posting even more they are getting plenty of hits so there is no reason why they should cut back.
add the fact that by engadget posting a story about something that they know will get a lot of views/comments they hope that it will lead to increased ad revenue
Dear Diary, today, June 24th, is shaping up to be a sad day. I promised myself to stop reading engadget and start being more productive. If only I had made that promise when it was still June 24th in New Zealand I wouldn't have wasted my time reading that crap article.
iPhone available July 11th. That hasn't changed.
And they say Americans are bad at geography...
I'd rather have The Dark Knight first. The US get it one week before NZ :(
But still, yay GO NZ!! w00t!!
The hobbitess are getting my precise first.
(That is so worn out but I'm gong to post it anyway)
Hobbitess = Hobbitses
Precise = Precious
I think this is what you were going for.
Hmm is that hard to understand.
About 2 seconds after Steve announced the release date I knew that it would be released first in NZ.
I then emailed Engadget about 6 hours later, and I got no response and then all of a sudden they post it up now.
engadget - really - can we limit ourselves to one iphone 3g story a day?
ps: on west coast, so adjust the time accordingly.
Also, can you imagine flying a redeye from New Zealand to LA and going from a world with a 3G iPhone to a world without a 3G iPhone? Like whoa. What if you took a picture of the 3G iPhone, would it fade away until the local Apple store opens?
Keep it up engadget, love you guys,
Marty McFly
Actually, probably by the time you bought one and then got off the flight from in say LA from NZ... it'd be July 11th in the US anyways...
harispilton,
Sorry to say, but you really just made yourself look like an idiot. Of course the Apple UK site will have a british flag... it's the local website. It's like saying
1. Go to http://www.apple.com/jp/
2. See the japanese flag?
That does not mean Apple is based in Japan.
Everyone knows (well not everyone it seems) that Apple headquarters is in Cupertino, CA, USA
By the way, before you call me an arrogant American or w/e, I am not American.
Mean i get it before almost everyone else in the whole world!!!
for once NZ gets something that hasn't been out for a few months somewhere else in the world.
so do i rub it in and post some photo's of the unboxing etc when i get it? hmm
@harispilton
you my sir are a moron
apple is based out of California
which btw has half as many people as your island country ( one state has half of your population!)
All that means is that California is overdue for a secession. We have the economy, government, military, etc to pull it off.
Bear Flag Republic ftw
And regarding the kiwi iPhone - uh NZ was also one of the first to get hit by the y2k bug. And one of the first to wake up 'this morning'. No story here. Move along.
As someone who actually lives in NZ (born in NYC), I can assure you that the likely available supply will make waiting at the door a very good idea, that is if you actually want one during July or August 2008!
As to all the other stuff one reads in these comments, it sure would please little old me and old I am so be gentle, if those people who have something worth while to add would do so and the remaining would try limiting themselves to reading.
In my last and very first post here, I requested some assistance on the issue of Apps pricing, as I have quite a few in the pipline. I did mean the request and would have really appreciated a constructive response.
Sadly, apart from perhaps 3 replies, the majority opinion seems to be that serious applications should be free; that everything should be free and that anyone seeking a reasonable return on investment is a Cossack!
OK, take your best shot... I have taken my anti-depressants and have a box of Kleenex standing by.
Cheers from very much Down Under.
GTFO of NZ tbh.
GTFO of NZ tbh.
There are not any Istores here in NZ.
Most of our vodafone shops are tiny, so i'm guessing Dick Smith or someome will get it.
Small Vodafone stores? Where are you, Dunedin or something? Walk down Queen St. in Auckland - there are more Vodafone stores than there are people :P, and many of them are quite big.
wtf is wrong with Dunedin bud?! Couch burnings ftw!
Oh come on ¬!!!!!!!!
you lot, none of you are getting one of these anyhow.
Either
1. your contract has not expired with your current provider
2. you already have a Generation 1 iPhone and don't really beleive that it is worth forking out on a new phone and extending your new contra\ct for another year, when you have this sneaky feeling that there is bound to be something else new out there in 6 month time....
Really.... this whole makret is changing so rapidly, and in the true order of things we seem to be on a "step" progress.
Watch...
a. The daily incursion of the Atom chip into MID devices.
b. The impending though protracted "coming of the Android".
c. The decrease in contract prices.
d. the economy.
It makes not sense at all to commit to an iPhone right now. And as I say, I think that MOST of you are full of hot air.
Someone should fly a box from NZ to the US just to taunt the people in New York and get Apple all confused and annoyed.
Yaya, I live in NZ.
My Podcast is doing the Launch LIVE through uStream.
We are aiming to do the world first Review of the Retail iPhone.
They Sell them ONLY in the Vodafone Stores.
Which Sucks because i work at the NZ Apple Stores :(
sweet what's your podcast called?
It is Jet-Blast TV.
It wont be up for a few more days, Since we are Filming the first Show this weekend.
The temporary website is: www.michael-griffin.com
theres an actual apple store in NZ lol??... i live in auckland btw =)
Shame that their are no Apple Stores in NZ.
we are getting an apple store :) this year
@handya -- where did you hear that? I hope you're right (but I suspect you're wrong)
So I take it it's coming out in Japan a bit late then.

phanboy
i'd pay to see that happen to someone
People in Greenwich will never ever get to the 12th. Because of the GMT situation. It's fact. I read it in an email.
Sucks being an Apple Fan Boy in that place!
That's why they call it "mean time" Kris. :)
lol @ pipline.
(How was my shot?)
New Zealand is also getting an Official Apple Store! coming later this year, they are just looking for a location in Auckland, - New Market or Queens St :)
Where did you get this information?
Vodafone NZ is releasing a data plan starting on the 27th of July:
$1 for 1 day of 10 mb of data per day.
Currently the N95 contract is like this:
$30 for 200 text, 30 mins of calling and 10mb of data per month.
not worth it if you ask me.
Interesting

umm.. I work in that store.. and we havent been told ANYTHING. Still pondering whether being a mac fan and being the first to sell it is a good thing or a bad thing.. mind you.. time and a half..
Ethan,
Not sure what you mean about Japan. Actually, it will be released on the 11th. Which in Japan is actually ahead of California.
Assuming that they will open the doors at Softbank at 9am in Tokyo it will still only be 5pm on the 10th in California. ;)
My name is David and I have set up camp outside Vodafone on Queen Street in Auckland New Zealand. I have it on good authority that I will be the first consumer to legally purchase an iPhone 3G in the entire world. Vodafone NZ has confirmed that, as I have set up my tent 16 days early, I will receive the first phone in the country. Please, hold your applause.
Come on, Wellington is closer to the Date Time Line than Auckland - we'll get it first in Wellington :)
How did this slip through as story worthy of an external link? We know the 3G kicks major ass and its coming out reallllllly soon, who gives about New Zealand gettign it first, be patient America! lolz
