Treo 800 spy shot madness starts again with new blurry goodness
So we've had blurry "Treo 800" pictures that turned out to be the Centro, others that turned out to be just about nothing, and now this one that is making the rounds in super-blur fast-mo. It's as if someone took a Centro, made the keys bigger, put a Sprint logo on there, and blurred out what appears to be a tester serial number. That's about all for now, but as usual we'll take this with a big grain of salt and make some rumor soup.

Well you have to at least give points to the guy's hands for having AIDS.
natels @ Jun 25th 2008 1:49PM
lol.
szamot @ Jun 25th 2008 6:03PM
.... and you would know that because you were necking together and then your private parts started getting itchy.... and come up with sores? Interesting.
vileta2 @ Jun 25th 2008 1:46PM
the design is so 2003
spass @ Jun 25th 2008 1:51PM
You are too forgiven, vileta2...
It would not pass the millenium benchamark to me.
nerdtalker @ Jun 25th 2008 2:00PM
All candybar-keys-on-front designs are so 2003, especially crackberries.
Icchansan @ Jun 25th 2008 3:15PM
or less...
JAmerican @ Jun 25th 2008 4:21PM
Actually I used to hate this phone design as well until I got a T-Mobile Dash. I used a Sidekick and I've used a TyTN and I must say the candybar phone form factor is by far the best. It's because the keyboard allowing instant usage. TyTn requires you to slide the keyboard out which gets annoying. The sidekick requires you to open the device to use the keyboard.
I want this phone. It is perfect :).
Rob S @ Jun 25th 2008 1:52PM
Well this matches the pic from Bill gates keynote, verizons "slide deck" and a lot of other pics going around so i call 100% real
John Upton @ Jun 25th 2008 2:01PM
Sad that Palm cannot keep up with the industry and produce a touch screen phone or some other cutting edge feature.
If they only could have sold the Foleo for about $300 they might have had something.
James @ Jun 25th 2008 2:25PM
@John,
Palm's have always been touch screen, with the exception of the v500.
matt @ Jun 25th 2008 2:45PM
*facepalm*
Touch screen is NOT the be all and end all.
Kris @ Jun 25th 2008 3:04PM
This phone is has a touch screen. It's running Windows Mobile Professional.
Zak @ Jun 25th 2008 2:02PM
Well if it's not blurry, it's not a real spy shot.
AGuy @ Jun 25th 2008 2:07PM
Its real. I've seen this phone. I used to work for a company that wrote an app for sprint. We were supposed to have our app on the phone but the JVM was too crappy. Anyway, its a real phone and its about as lame as the shots make it look. Its smaller than a treo 700 but bigger than other phones in its class. The funny thing is that we had a sample over a year ago. I'm not sure what's taking them so long.
TheGasMan @ Jun 25th 2008 3:19PM
Bigger than other phones in its class? Please name one.
7on @ Jun 25th 2008 6:00PM
I think they worked to make it blurrier
tyler @ Jun 25th 2008 2:09PM
Well Herrooo Mr. Brurry cam
Jason @ Jun 25th 2008 2:16PM
take a look at the index finger and try to stretch your hand to match. you will most likely have to use your right hand to match the un-natural spread between fingers. but you will also notice that your skin folds differently from the hand in this picture. i call fake.
serial number also looks un-natural.
one last thing the screen is displaying a picture of itself, which means that there are 2 of them or the picture was taken with another phone and sent to this phone. which just seems like too much work.
sprint employee @ Jun 25th 2008 3:08PM
What is it with you fake screamers? It's a real phone and a real
picture.... Get over yourselves.
Anyways, I love to read these posts, they tickle muh innards. I was
looking at the Palm "Gandalph" post from yesteryear that was linked
above in the blog and there's a guy on there screaming that the
picture is fake and points out all the details why... including him
being a day to day photoshoppper..... Isn't it funny how if the
picture was indeed a fake that it turned out to be IDENTICAL to the
Centro that came later??? 'tards..
And, hello? Somebody can't have fingers that stretch far apart? Ever hear of musicians? More specifically, guitar players? Dolt...
Zach @ Jun 25th 2008 3:14PM
As a guitar player of about 12 years, I have to say that the position is very easy to get my finger to do. I'm not saying that its not a fake picture, but it is a very do-able hand position.
TheGasMan @ Jun 25th 2008 3:21PM
If you'd bothered to follow the link before calling bluff on a real photo, you'd see that yes, he really did have two of them.
http://www.wmexperts.com/articles/08/06/Treo011.html
Jason @ Jun 25th 2008 3:24PM
haha, no i didn't follow the link. please forgive me and don't take it out on your wife.
John @ Jun 25th 2008 2:33PM
Wow Palm!
you guys are awesome. You've come out with yet another innovative masterpiece, that is indistinguishable from every other phone you've made in the last 5 years!
Makes me glad that I jumped ship to Winmob.
(this coming from a guy that's bought >10 different palm handhelds/phones over the years)
Me @ Jun 25th 2008 4:23PM
John - "Makes me glad that I jumped ship to Winmob."
Hey moron. That is a Windows Mobile device. Look at the Start button and icon in the top left of the screen.
Ken @ Jun 25th 2008 4:08PM
@John
Dude you are talking nonsense. this phone uses Winmob as its OS.
inteller @ Jun 25th 2008 3:18PM
I really wish all of you iPhockers would STHU about every phone not looking like the iTurd. Some people prefer fixed function buttons that do exactly what they are supposed to instead of dinking around with a touch screen that may or may not register what you are wanting to do. After watching someone try to touch dial on an iTurd I for one can say I'm glad Palm and others still make fixed button phones.
Hopefully Apple will come out with a phone that has no buttons and is just one slick suppository so you can shove it where the sun don't shine and dial with your prostate.
michael.lerner @ Jun 25th 2008 7:11PM
True but then is there a point to release a new model? It looks almost exactly like the 750.
TheGasMan @ Jun 25th 2008 3:18PM
"put a Sprint logo on there"
Hmm... The Centro already has a Sprint logo on it. Anyway, I don't know why you bothered with a description because we've known what this thing looked like since we saw that slide behind Gates. Yes, it's similar to the Centro and every other Palm device. We get it. :-)
inteller @ Jun 25th 2008 3:19PM

May or may not register what I want to do? Well all I can say is that I haven't had any problems like that on my iPhone. Touch dialing works fine, and so does everything else. So what's your problem again?
Dan @ Jun 25th 2008 3:50PM
I have held the 800w in my own hands. This picture is very real. Anyone who thinks it is fake is a nincompoop!
Nicky-Larson @ Jun 25th 2008 4:50PM
Seriously, Will Palm EVER come out with a WOW design for their phones? They always look like bricks and are UGLY.
Dan @ Jun 25th 2008 5:07PM
Google pics of the 850 and try to say that.
STNC @ Jun 25th 2008 5:01PM
I've seen this device in person, nothing special
4honor @ Jun 25th 2008 5:02PM
I think I should pursue a career as a spy that carries a dSLR... Oh wait, then that means I would starve to death.
Come on people, even a cheapo digicam can get better picture than that!
Frank @ Jun 25th 2008 5:21PM
The Treo is a corporate PDA, its doesn't have to have a "WOW" design. Treos are sooo 2005.
szamot @ Jun 25th 2008 6:05PM
Win Mob or Palm OS either one still can't multitask efficiently - might as well be running DOS.
Golferal @ Jun 25th 2008 6:53PM
Why would they bring the 800 to market when pics of the 850, a much better looking device, already indicate that it's waiting in the wings>? Am I missing something?
Chris @ Jun 25th 2008 7:18PM
At least they are finally using miniUSB as a connector. The Centro looked like it could have been thinner if not for the port Palm has been using for what seems like a decade now.
BadBuddy234 @ Jun 25th 2008 11:02PM
what is the difference between the other Treos like 700, does not have wifi and the screen still the same 320x320, the camera is 2 mpx.
PALM please do something worthwhile!.
Iphone's and Blackberry's, even nokia's are better than this piece of sh**.
jjohnson @ Jun 26th 2008 1:25AM
yeah, that IS the phone ... i got to mess around with a pre-production model and its actually good, its weird because it has no headphone jack but in place it has a micro USB port where you would have to buy an adapter for wired headphones...also includes built-in GPS (the first sprint Palm device to have this) and WI FI !!!! I'd pick this over that instinct pos anyday...the phone is supposedly coming out on the 14th or so of next month
jjohnson @ Jun 26th 2008 1:31AM
oh yeah also its just a tad bit larger than the centro...smaller than the 700/755p (thank god)...
Ahura Mazda @ Jun 26th 2008 7:32AM
Just to confirm again, that definitely is the phone.
I work for Sprint, and Palm just sent us a pre-release model that looks just like that, complete with the test serial number in the top right corner. Release data is supposed to be June 14th unless they change it again. Runs WinMo 6.1, looks like the Centro's older brother. Otherwise pretty much what you would expect. Nothing revolutionary, sadly, but nowhere near as bad as I thought it might be.
socialist @ Jun 26th 2008 2:13PM
Am i the only one that still ikes the form factor of the treo and DOESN'T want a full touch screen?
matt @ Jun 25th 2008 2:43PM
No, buttons are good. I can change tracks in my pocket for example. Try that with a touch thing and you will end up calling your mate in beijing and costing ££££££ on the phone bill....
rickhamilton620 @ Jun 25th 2008 2:44PM
Nope, count me in too. I've said it before and I'll say it again-this is a very attractive device-(relatively) large screen, what appears to be a nice keyboard, and a, IMO, great color scheme.
I'd get one...
Mycroft @ Jun 25th 2008 2:51PM
It is sad really. Palm used to be an innovator. The Treo led the field. Now they are shooting for the middle of the bell curve with this thing.
I predict the 800, if ever released, is the last attempt by Palm at the high end smartphone. The Centro is their bread an butter, and they will continue to find their niche in the low end, cheapo-smartphone market.
I mourn the demise of an inovator who brought us such gems as the Visorphone.
tcc3 @ Jun 25th 2008 3:39PM
No Handspring was the innovator. Treo was their baby. Palm hasnt innovated since....well, since Handspring broke away.
Hmm I'm sensing a pattern here.
Mycroft @ Jun 25th 2008 4:31PM
@tcc3
But Handspring was founded by Palm people.
Let us chart the evolution of Palm, it went something like this:
Palm makes PDAs and OS - Handspring forms from Palm people and make PDAs and then smartphones and licenses Palm OS - Palm splits into Palm Source who make the OS and PalmOne who make hardware and buys Handspring - Palm Source is bought by Access who make the OS and leases it back to PalmOne who then buys back rights to change their name back to Palm who now want make hardware an OS.
No wonder we do not see any innovation from PalmHandspringPalmSourceAccessPalmOnePalm. They are too busy ordering new letterhead.
