VIZIO intros XVT Series of 1080p LCDs / plasmas
Well, what have we here? A trio of newcomers from "North America's fastest growing brand of flat-panel HDTVs," that's what. Kicking things off in the all new XVT Series is the 42-inch SV420XVT and 47-inch SV47XVT LCD HDTVs, both of which feature 1080p panels, VIZIO's Smooth Motion technology (120Hz), a 6,500:1 contrast ratio and the usual complement of ports including four HDMI 1.3 sockets. Next up we've got the 50-inch VP505XVT, a 1080p plasma with Silicon Optix's famed REON HQV processing engine. Furthermore, this one packs an integrated digital TV tuner (with ClearQAM support), a dynamic contrast ratio of 30,000:1 and SRS Labs' TruSurround XT audio processing technology. The new trio is all set to ship next month for $1,499.99, $1,899.99 and $1,699.99, and of course, you'll find 'em perched at Circuit City, Sears and your favorite Club retailer. What's the story with Vizio? Clearly they are cheaper tha many out
there, but are they good? I might be able to talk my wife in to the
50 inch if they are this cheap and worth it.

Vizio is a totally legitimate brand. They're based out of somewhere in the US (California I think). They use generic LCD parts purchased straight from many of the same manufacturers that build the high-end LCD components. Most review sites rate Vizio highly for their value but usually don't give them quite as high a score as the Samsungs and Sonys on visual quality. I personally would have no concerns about buying one; they seem to have a strong product.

I purchased a vizio about a month ago and I'm very pleased with it. I got the 42" 1080P VW42LF model. It was only ~990 something. I use it mostly for PS3 and movies. I know a few others with various other vizio's and I don't know anyone who has complained. But I'm sure if this thread stays active long enough some jack will complain. They always do!!! ;-)

I have that same T.V. I purchased it a week ago and its awesome. It was $996+ tax. I wish it had Picture in Picture. I don't really know if that Natural Motion thing would be a big feature for me, but I've seen it and it makes movies look like home video style. Not in picture quality but the way people move.

I've been keeping an eye out for negative reviews of Vizio since I started seeing them at Costco about a year ago, but haven't found much. Seems like a pretty solid brand, especially considering the price.

Engadget can you please review the 32 inch?
Daniel @ Jun 25th 2008 11:25AM
the prices are out of order...i assume the prices match up respectively to each size, rather than the 50 inch being cheaper than the 42 inch.

Fantastic prices for sure. Hopefully, Sams Club will carry the unit. Wouldn't mind a gander at a profile view though...
Also, there's a posting about it over on Gear Patrol:

I've owned Vizio's 37-inch set for two years and love it. Made in California with a lot of the same parts as the big three S's. My wife and I decided to switch to ATT U-verse, and when the guy installed it I looked at ESPN in HD to get a feel for their picture, and told him to pull it all out and plug my DirectTV back in. The Vizio was able to clearly show me the difference in image quality between the two feeds. This past year's Super Bowl was phenomenal on my Vizio -- the picture quality is superb. I'm seriously considering this new XVT line, and moving a larger screen into the family room. 6,500:1 contrast is way up there. My brother in law has a 42-inch Samsung (plasma) and I believe my Vizio LCD has a much better picture. My 2¢.

I have had vizio since they have been out and have had no problem(since 2004), now i recently purchased the 47' xvt 1080p 120 hz and im not sure if mine has a problem but the image tends to freeze and show the image of the pixels move to catch up.. I have changed the HDMI to the best possible so i dont know is it the cable company or is it the Tv?

I agree with everyone here. My tv of choice as always been a Vizio. We recently purchased the new XVT SV420 47" and have had no problems with it. It's got great quality, great picture and sound - 120Hz, 1080 P Full HD, the works. And let me tell you - it looks really nice in the family room! I heard a lot of great reviews, so that's why we decided to head to Costco and buy it and I agree with all the reviews I read. Great choice.

THats Me
I Just bought the 47" xvt and had the same problem. I simply turned the smooth motion effect to "high" somewhat better but what fixed my problem with the pixel catchup problem was turning off the "real cinema mode". No more pixel catchup on fast camera pans.
I really like this TV for the money
Costco has them for the best price I've found but they were out of stock and Circuit City Price Matched at a $500 difference. You do get the 2 year warranty through Costco though.
