HP fax machines recalled, could turn resume into flames
Hey you. Yeah, you. You're about to beam that resume facsimile-style to a prospective employer, aren't you? If said machine is a Hewlett-Packard Fax 1010 or 1010xi, we're recommend firing (ahem) it over through email instead. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with HP, has issued a voluntary recall for the aforementioned fax machines after receiving three reports of "overheating," two of which resulted in "minor property damage." If you just so happen to own one of these machines, and you'd prefer your abode not be burned to the ground anytime soon, we'd suggest following the read link and applying for your rebate. After you unplug the machine and shove it in the freeze, of course.

Clearly it's a catastrophically failed attempt at building internet-browser properties into it.
Browser + fax machine = FireFax.

The Fax of Life, the Fax of Life.

funny that this should come up because I just started using our fax (which happens to be this model) last week.
I just ordered an HP M1319f laserjet/fax from staples.com. Part of the recall deal is depending on which unit you replace yours with HP refunds you a different amount of money. If you buy the unit I just did, it's $300 at staples.com, minus a $100 rebate from staples (that expires tomorrow), minus $100 rebate from HP for the recall, plus free shipping = $100 laserjet printer/fax machine.
Here's the link to the staples page if anyone is interested: http://www.staples.com/office/supplies/StaplesProductDisplay?storeId=10001&jspStoreDir=Staples&productId=223929&cmSearchKeyword=M1319f&fromUrl=home&cmArea=SEARCH&catalogId=10051&langId=-1

If I were Bill Gates today I would probably retire. If I had all that money I wouldn't stick around to be the head of one of the most hated companies in the world, I'd take time off and live the easy life.
Oh, that IS what he is doing. Well looks like we would do the same thing if I were Bill Gates today.
Danny @ Jun 27th 2008 9:34PM
Lol, I guess I replied to the wrong one. I don't think Bill Gates uses a fax machine anyway, he can probably pay someone to walk over it and use it for him. At least that's what I would do if I were Bill Gates :P

Explain to me why people are still screwing around with fax machines?
I've been in the office machine business for 27 years, working on things
such as fax, printers, copiers. Now everything is a multifunction printer, copier, scanner, fax toaster oven.
Fax machines, if you can get them to run v.34 mode are still SLOW, compared to email, or scanning it to a secure folder on a network.
I guess it's the same problem I had getting people to switch from using a
messenger service in the early 80's to a fax. Now people don't want to
give up their fax machines for email.
