PlayStation-branded SOCOM Bluetooth headset revealed
Now that you've already picked up one of those Metal Gear Solid 4 headsets, what on Earth are you to do with another? We're hearing that the Blu-ray retail version of SOCOM Confrontation will indeed include a Bluetooth headset, and as you can clearly see above, it's a PlayStation-branded one at that. You'll also find a much needed mute button for keeping everyone else out of your whooping coughs, and a bundled USB cradle will keep it charged up when the battle subsides. As for pricing, that tidbit remains a mystery, but you can count on picking one up sans the game should you be so inclined. Head on down to the read link for a gallery of shots.

I just wanted to say I loved the mute feature on the ps2 headset and I am glad they kept it.
darkstar @ Jun 27th 2008 1:18PM
nice!
this looks 100x better than that MGS4 headset. who thought of that one?
Lars @ Jun 27th 2008 1:47PM
Seems odd that you'd assume everyone already has a MGS4 headset. I don't even know how to get one... did it come with the limited edition MGS4?
I might try a bluetooth headset in the future again, but I was really disappointed with the one that came with my phone. And using it for gaming was a joke. Terrible sound quality and having to recharge it constantly (with a proprietary plug, no less), just rendered it useless. I'm not walking around the room with my headset on... I'm firmly planted on the couch. So I don't mind the cord, especially since I get to use a more comfortable headset which sounds great and never needs charging.
I'm just using my old PC USB headset BTW.

to answer you from the last story about MGS4 bluetooth headset .. it's only available for the ps3 so yes there is fanboyism to love everything for the ps3.
Now this contraption takes the cake...
Paired with MGS4 Bluetooth headset and this PS3 one - u turn into Super Nerd.

@ gabe ^^
It's called the Double Douche.

I wonder if this headset also works with cellphones for calls.
George @ Jun 27th 2008 2:20PM
I am sure it will.
kastonie @ Jun 27th 2008 2:07PM
WOAIII!!!!
THIS BLU RAY COMES WITH BLU TOOF?
kagai @ Jun 27th 2008 2:08PM
Joystiq is reporting a pricing "bundle" rumor of $80.00. Gametrailers has a couple of map fly through videos. It looks good and $80, if true, is a good deal.

2 words-
Ugly
&
clunky
(well I guess the & would be a 2nd word, so really, I mean 3 words)
MRCUR @ Jun 27th 2008 2:32PM
Clunky? That looks a lot like the Jaybone design. I'd say this type of design is anything but clunky...
I can understand you not liking the colors, which would make it seem ugly. I'd call it simple. All black with branding.
Personally, I like it. I'll be buying the bundle when it launches.
Nomi @ Jun 27th 2008 2:38PM
Clunky!??! What do you want? An implant?
Sam Zebian @ Jun 27th 2008 2:49PM
damn it, why aren't my comments showing up, I just wrote a whole paragraph on why this doesn't look anything like the jawbone. Anyways, lets hope I typed my password right this time so that this one will show up. Here goes-
okay, so basically what I said was that the jawbone and this headset aren't as similar as you may think. The jawbone unit itself is a rounded and curved design, while this has a rectangle with a clip on it design. The buttons on the jawbone aren't visible (because they are the whole front side of the unit itself), while the buttons on this thing (especially the power button) are ugly and make it clunky looking.
trust me, I would know. I owned the original Jawbone (the original was actually a wired unit, I owned the original wireless unit) and had it for a year. I just recently sold it (in fact I'm finally getting my money for it today), and I got the jawbone II, which is a much nicer looking headset than this. It also appears to be much smaller, but that doesn't matter when your playing PS3 online much, and I can't exactly tell by looking at a picture, we would have to have a comparison shot.
Oh and this time I'm copy-paste-ing my comment before I submit it and then nothing shows up on the site like last time.
Richard @ Jun 27th 2008 3:17PM
I have a Jawbone and... wait, lemme check. Yep, similiar looking design. Defnitely not clunky.
Chris @ Jun 27th 2008 2:20PM
I'm glad I didn't get the MGS4 headset, this looks a lot better and hopefully as easy to use as the 360 headset.
Tom Reinke @ Jun 27th 2008 3:02PM
Reminds me of the Jawbone bluetooth.. Kinda.
I dunno, I really like the style of that, but I wouldn't have any use for it.
Andy @ Jun 27th 2008 3:53PM
What people have not mentioned. The PS3 chargeable cradle that comes with it looks cool. And when in the cradle, the headset is a directional microphone, so even while charging you can use it.
Andy @ Jun 27th 2008 3:54PM
And Sony Ericsson headsets are pretty good quality, so if this is one of those, then it will be high quality and reliable.
capttylor @ Jun 27th 2008 10:23PM
much more mainstream than the MGS4 one
cub3 @ Jun 27th 2008 11:52PM
Not only would i us this when i play, i will definitely take it out on the road. It looks very nice, the MUTE is a must to have, i will be getting the bundle once it comes out.
jonnyfivealive @ Jun 28th 2008 12:18PM
I wanna get this when it comes out
