HTC Touch Pro passes FCC in CDMA flavor
Among the many ducks that Sprint (and Verizon?) will need to get in a row in order to launch their own version of HTC's Touch Pro, FCC certification ranks pretty freakin' high on the list. No worries, though -- it's all good, because that just happened. An HTC device with model number "RAPH800" has now popped up in the filing system, featuring CDMA with EV-DO on the 850 and 1900MHz bands. Of course, certification is certainly no indication of when a product's actually going to launch, but if (heaven forbid) the glossy QWERTY WinMo slider gets delayed, at least we can call out anyone trying to slide the "we're waiting on FCC clearance" excuse past us.

It's amazing how these companies (SonyEricsson too) are so stupid that they can't launch a product at the peak of the hype curve.
Lowest Ranked @ Jun 30th 2008 7:21PM
Dude, the peak of the product's hype is a lot earlier for us geeks than it is for the mainstream public/businessmen.
nerdtalker @ Jun 30th 2008 8:24PM
Since when has anybody launched something effectively at the hype curve? Tons of successful products haven't been released at the moment you consider the climax of hype. Take 3G iPhone or Android for example. We've known about them for a long time, doesn't mean they'll be unsuccessful when they come out, or that the enthusiasm will run out.
I for one am really excited to replace my HTC Mogul with a HTC Touch Pro. VGA screen and 6.1 (although I already run it) with the 3D interface looks amazing.

Looks great and all, but where are the buttons and the screen?
Erwos @ Jun 30th 2008 7:25PM
This isn't an unreleased phone. You can see plenty of pictures on the Internet.
And, yes, this phone is going to become my next phone. :)
What the Frack?! @ Jun 30th 2008 7:24PM
Even the bar codes are good looking!
J-Rad @ Jun 30th 2008 7:25PM
I spilt my milk after reading that its probable to get this phone on Verizon! Im pretty excited but not too excited that my milk is spelling out 'It will be heavily delayed' ... Plus, how will i get my daily calcium now!
Rufus White @ Jun 30th 2008 7:38PM
No use crying over spilt milk mate, chin up.
Reftheking @ Jun 30th 2008 7:28PM
Verizon? Hmmmm....
Ace b @ Jun 30th 2008 8:21PM
Oooooh sweet Lord,
Please, please allow this to come to Verizon without being crippled by the shitty trademarked os that is on 99% of freakin verizon phones.
Tony @ Jun 30th 2008 8:41PM
According to a certain other gadget blog that shall remain nameless, both the Touch and the Touch Pro will be released for Sprint and Verizon.
deyanimay @ Jun 30th 2008 8:43PM
please t-mobile or at&t
DP @ Jul 1st 2008 6:41PM

David Phillipps @ Jun 30th 2008 7:28PM
I hope this comes to canada.
holycow @ Jul 1st 2008 4:38AM
Bell will probably get this and the Touch Diamond.
CelestKixy @ Jun 30th 2008 7:30PM
If Verizon gimps this as much as they do every other damn phone they get, I'd rather sign up for the crapshoot that is Sprint coverage.
Jughead @ Jun 30th 2008 8:05PM
Verizon doesn't gimp their WinMo phones. They are always late to the party getting it out and take forever to do software updates. If HTC makes it just hang around xda-developers for custom ROMS. I pretty much flash my VZW HTC Titan to an updated ROM every month.
Grant @ Jun 30th 2008 8:25PM
Thanks Jughead.
I hate dealing with people who always beat the "Verizon phones are all gimped to shit" drum, because they've obviously never used a phone worth having on the service, cause the Treo's, BB's, and Winmo phones aren't really touched. Now if i could just get a firmware update for my Q....
Jughead @ Jun 30th 2008 8:34PM
@ Grant, That's why I try to stick with HTC products since there is a huge dev community. Same goes with WIFI routers, there is no point in getting one that DD-WRT doesn't support. You can still have a Linksys WRT54G v1 and it will never run out of support or feature updates and outperform the newer crap Linksys releases. Half the stuff D-Link and Netgear put out they EOL after a few years and instead of fixing the bugs, they release newer hardware that has the same problems.
Kevin @ Jul 1st 2008 3:13PM
Ok atleast with every other verizon phone like the EnV the interface is gimped out. I hate it.
le Chen @ Jun 30th 2008 7:44PM
em...CDMA
Telus..
Good bye Rogers and with your 3G iphone
Luay Shayya @ Jun 30th 2008 7:44PM
Does anybody know if there's gonna be a GSM (AT&T) version of the Pro?
Dave @ Jun 30th 2008 7:50PM
I don't have an official confirmation, but I can 99.99999% say "yes" to a GSM version - they almost always do. Can't say yes or no to AT&T picking it up and subsidizing though...:(
kjb434 @ Jul 1st 2008 9:08AM
At worst, you'll have to get it unlocked for full price. GSM will definitely be available since HTC will want to actually sell these in places outside of North America.
Christian Walters @ Jun 30th 2008 7:56PM
Well, now that its been through the FCC, just give Verizon and Sprint 2 more years and it may finally show up in there stores running a dumbed down/locked down ROM to boot!
OziD @ Jul 1st 2008 1:38AM
Sprint doesn't pull that shit. And afaik, verizon doesn't either.
This phone is going to be sex... and since I have great sprint coverage in my area, I will continue to be happy for the next year or so after its released.
Nicky-Larson @ Jun 30th 2008 8:02PM
WOW. Good news for today. Was itching to switch phones, tired of my nice looking Mogul. I just wonder how long it will take before the price drops on ebay. Yes People, I do not want to upgrade my plan. I Just wanna gave a kool looking phone.
Dave @ Jun 30th 2008 10:53PM
Haha you're on Sprint? I'm sorry.

mphayvanh @ Jun 30th 2008 8:05PM
Verizon's internal testing will take roughly 6 months before rolling it out to their customers. Yea, 2009 release may be striking while the iron is dead cold but Verizon customers are starving for a good phone that they wouldn't mind. I like to stick with them but I don't think I want to wait.
Steve @ Jun 30th 2008 8:22PM
This phone better come out on AT&T too dammit. I'm sick and tired of Verizon getting all the cool slider phones.
Jon @ Jun 30th 2008 8:26PM
I guess I can wait for this phone to come out for Verizon, my "new every two" doesn't come up for another 8-12 months.
Bill @ Jun 30th 2008 8:36PM
so looks like this won't be out till after 10/20/2008
since that's when the internal and external photos will be avail according to fcc site.
FRZ @ Jun 30th 2008 8:37PM
I have Verizon, so yay for me. Maybe.
tchapp @ Jun 30th 2008 8:44PM
Wow, finally someone's opinion that matters. It's settled then, I too hate Verizon. You have opened my eyes with your opinion that does oh so much heavy lifting. Thank you dear FRZ for guiding me into the light!
SyXbiT @ Jun 30th 2008 9:05PM
I pray every day that the HTC dream will be at least as good at this.
PLEASE HTC, put in 256+MB of RAM in the Dream!!!
If not, I might buy this, and see if I can port android over later
hwoarang27 @ Jun 30th 2008 9:06PM
Oh Verizon...
Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in.
Hamidxa @ Jun 30th 2008 9:26PM

It's commin to Verizon...had a HTC Rep that came in to do a presentation on another product, and he had the HTC Diamond on his screen and I asked who will be getting that phone...he accidentally said Verizon and turned really red after that..
Oblique @ Jun 30th 2008 10:40PM
Maybe he was choking...
Dave @ Jun 30th 2008 10:55PM
Unfortunately for you, the HTC Diamond is a completely different phone than the Touch Pro, idiot. Have a nice day.
Fuzzball @ Jul 1st 2008 8:00AM
Damn it! All the specs I've been seeing said it was GSM based and wouldn't hit the CDMA market.Had I known this I probably would have waited to pick this up than getting a Q9c.
I suppose it's all for the better. I loved my 6700 as a connected PDA, but hated it's inability to function as a farking phone. Not to mention it probably wouldn't hit VZW till next year anyways.
Matt H @ Jul 1st 2008 8:42AM
I am looking forward to this phone, as a long time 8525 user, this will be a nice upgrade. Even though I am running an upgraded ROM with winmo 6.1 and touchflo on it this phone will better handle my needs. Also this phone has a fifth row of numerics on its keyboard.
