Lancerlink's DDV-1080HD HD camcorder lowers the bar
Watch out DXG, you've got a new rival in town, and it goes by the name Lancerlink. Just when we thought you had the cheap-o HD camcorder market all locked up, in comes this firm with a rather chintzy looking camcorder capable of logging clips at 1,440 x 1,080 (30fps) or 1,280 x 720 (60fps) in H.264 format. The 5-megapixel sensor can also snag stills, but considering that there's just 90MB of free memory within, you should probably keep an SD / MMC / SDHC card nearby. You'll also find a 3-inch LCD monitor, HDTV (component) output, USB connectivity and a rechargeable battery good for around four hours of use. The worst part, however, is the ¥49,800 ($474) price tag that's attached to the July-bound DDV-1080HD, which makes it a few hundies more than most of DXG's awfully similar collection.

Wait a minute....this looks like my Aiptek "1080P" camera that I got for $132 from Amazon (and works great BTW)
$400+ for THAT? no thanks.

Was going to say that too .. looks alot like those sub-$200 Full HD cams you see these days...
Is this thing really different or are they insane by thinking the term "Full HD" justifies 250% price margin...
Danakin @ Jun 30th 2008 9:56AM
Yeah, looks similar, and is way more expensive...
Doug @ Jun 30th 2008 9:54PM
yep, sure looks similar to my aiptek as well. I paid $139 for mine. As much as I love the convenience and portability of my aiptek, I can't imagine paying $400 for it. Picture quality is great, but the sound quality is marginal. If the build quality of this device is similar to the aiptek, they are certainly overshooting the market at that price.

Wait a minute....this looks like my DigiLife 1080HD camera that I got for $120 from eBay
ShadowKain @ Jun 30th 2008 9:14AM
Wow, you might as well get a REAL camcorder for not much more, that will do a better recording job and have better longevity. Get an HDD camcorder or hybrid and skip this forgettable expensive miss...

The video from it is really good if it is anything like my Aiptek. It has no shake compensation though so you have to be really steady. On a tripod it works great.

I have to agree with the YouTube comment, the picture will be grainy and as said, only scraping around the home use.
The price tag is stupid, and no-one in their right mind will pay that much for it, when you look at what else you can buy for that money, camera wise.
inteller @ Jun 30th 2008 10:53AM
grainy.....WTF? It is 720P! It looks great....at least on my AIPtek.

If you're looking for a small camcorder with great quality the SANYO XACTI is the way to go.
