It looks like MSI's taking another page from ASUS's
Eee playbook -- the
Wind netbook is getting a desktop sibling. MSI was actually showing off the Atom-based minitower at Computex last month, and while final specs and pricing aren't official, it sounds like the machine will include Windows XP, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB drive, DVD drive, and WiFi for somewhere between $200 and $300 when it goes on sale sometime in September -- but you'll have to be in Europe or Asia to snag one, as MSI says they won't make it to the US. That's a shame, as the power-sipping machine is pretty intriguing: the 1.6GHz system at Computex was able to play back 720p video using just 30 watts of power -- compared to 242 watts for a normal PC. (MSI says the Wind desktop isn't quite capable of 1080p playback yet, but it hinted that future versions will get there.) Hopefully MSI will have a change of heart between now and September.

I honestly don't understand why people hate Vista so much. It seems like the only people who complain about it are people who don't have computers which can handle it, in which case they're being ridiculous. Of course newer software will require better hardware... That's how it's always been!
The other complaints I've seen are usually people who are trying to build business networks, which I have no experience with, and cannot make fun of.

My computer is perfectly capable of running vista (q6600, 4GB DDR2), and I still dont like it. It's come a long way, and is definitely better than when it first came out, but XP is still better. XP just doesn't get in your way (much) like Vista. There's also the fact that even when both are properly configured, Vista still takes up more resources than XP.

This MSI Wind has the potential to compete with the Apple TV especially if it were upgraded to a media edition of Windows. Unfortunately it seems a little underpowered for playback and suffers a serious issue that the Apple TV also has - it can only display 720p videos. At least it has a DVD drive.
Either that thing is a lot bigger than the Eee desktop or Asian women are much smaller than I originally thought.
I believe that dvd drives may also be smaller than we originally thought...
