ViewSonic rolls out 26-inch VA2626WM LCD monitor

Viewsonic didn't quite hit the mark with its recent attempt at a $500 projector, but it looks like it's fared considerably better with its nearly $500 26-inch VA2626WM LCD monitor, which packs most of the features you'd expect from a pricier model. That includes the requisite 1920 x 1200 resolution, along with a 6,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, HDMI, DVI, and VGA ports, and even some 2.5 watt speakers, which can thankfully be removed. No word on specs like brightness or refresh rate, unfortunately, but those details should be cleared up by the time the monitor lands sometime next month for $529.

Dynamic Contrast Ratio of 6,000:1 ?? I'm guessing this is another crappy TN display.
I'm going back to bed.

I agree, dynamic contrast is a useless marketing hype exaggerated number. You can't use it to compare between different products because each marketing department has its own bullshit way of making it up. How about some real contrast ratio numbers? In fact, how about forcing manufacturers to give out real data on viewing angles as well?

well I'm sure its a TN panel...cant be anything else at that price.....but then at least in about a year full hd panels will be affordable for everyone......while SIPS panels will cater to the premium segment....maybe it will be down to 300 dollars by next year...full hd at that price will be sweet

"Superior customer support.. four five year extended warranty.."
What a joke. I had a ViewSonic LCD monitor break down after 2 years - it had a 3 years warranty. Phoned them 5 times and 5 times they reply they don't have any spare replacement monitors, but will contact you when they have... what kind of warranty is that?
Good monitors, but they have the worse customer warranty support I have ever seen.
Kimo @ Jun 30th 2008 1:16PM
Yea, their warranty has really gone down hill. I had a 20" that had a bad DVI issue, and the first time they replaced it real fast. A year later, that one died, and it took four months to replace it. Also, their hold times have gotten crazy, due to "unusual high call volumes". Let me ask this, after a year of "unusually high call volumes", is it no longer unusual?

What's this with the 1920x1200? I've got that on my 17" laptop, and there it looks great. Same resolution on a 50% larger diameter, is that to place it a meter further back?
[USAmericans may use a yard instead of a meter]

shame this is not actually on their website yet, I have the 19" version and the (non-dynamic) contrast ratio is 700:1 and it is very clear and blacks are good, this is more like 1200:1 which should be great!

I don't get it... the specs on their site http://www.viewsonic.com/products/lcddisplays/valueseries/VA2626wm/index.htm say 800:1 @ 5ms where did 6,000:1 come from?
