Finally, a piece of news we can actually do something with. AT&T today announced its pricing structure for the next iteration of Apple's
iPhone -- which you can plunk down money for come 8 am, July 11th. There's not much that's surprising here -- new customers and those eligible for an upgrade will be able to nab the phone for $199 (8GB) or $299 (16GB), while "early upgraders" will have to fork over $399 or $499, all with a two year contract and $18 upgrade fee, of course. The telco says a no-commitment version of the phone will be available for $599 and $699, though it looks like that will come after the initial launch. AT&T appears to be leaning pretty heavily towards the all-in unlimited plans, but there are options if you don't want to go that route. We've sorted out the basics after the break, and included AT&T's "iReady" video -- certainly good for a few chuckles.
Notes:
- iPhone 3G will be available for $199 (8GB) and $299 (16GB) for iPhone customers who purchased an iPhone prior to 7/11, customers activating a new line with AT&T and current AT&T customers who are eligible for an upgrade
- Existing AT&T customers who are not currently eligible for an upgrade discount can purchase iPhone 3G for $399 for the 8GB model or $499 for the 16GB model. Both options require a new two-year service agreement.

I would Get sprint But my dad used to have it before but then his bills started coming for like $600 im not even joking their network sucks here in Dallas and they charge you for a little thing no free roaming WTF? So now we all have tmobile which is pretty good here
These at&t prices are obscene. That and their piss poor 3G coverage are the reasons why im sticking with Sprint, regardless what phones are available on at&t.
Like many consumers I was relieved… even excited at the unveiling of the $199 3G iPhone during Steve Jobs keynote address at the WWDC conference in San Francisco.
I thought to myself, “Apple and AT&T must really want as many people as possible to be able to afford the iPhone, so they cut the price in half!” Not exactly. As a long-time (5+ years) AT&T customer, it wasn’t until I began researching the details of the 3G iPhones plan that I realized how I had been bamboozled. I was shocked! The $199 3G 8gb iPhone only applies to new AT&T customers or “qualified customers”! If you are a current customer of AT&T, beware!!! That $199 8g iPhone will actually cost you $399… plus the increase in data plan if you’re in the middle of your contract. WAIT, isn’t that the same price as last years phone? You bet! As a current customer, if you’re not “eligible for an equipment upgrade” at that time, $399 is your actual cost for an “early upgrade.” Yes, you heard me right, $200 more. AT&T’s marketing ploy is to get as many new customer converts on the higher monthly data plan. Don’t worry current customers, you’re not a concern. Sorry. It’s not about you.
When I asked if AT&T had a customer loyalty program for long-time customers, this was their response:
“Dear Mr. Milton,
Thank you for taking the time to e-mail the new AT&T regarding your
[service in question]. I am happy to help you with your inquiry.
I apologize for any misunderstanding about the iPhone pricing. Unfortunately, we are unable to modify the pricing on the 3G iPhone. You
will have the option to purchase the 8GB model for $399 or the 16GB for
$499. To get the $199 or $299 pricing, you will have to upgrade on
11/8/2008. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Mr. Milton, you have many choices regarding wireless service providers.
We appreciate your loyalty and that you have been an AT&T customer for
many years.
We encourage you to visit our web site often to view current and
previous monthly statements, make payments and to shop for new product
and service offerings. Thank you for choosing AT&T!
Sincerely,
Victor Salas

The advertising for the new 3G iPhone has been extremely misleading. When Steve Jobs announced the price of the 3G iPhone during his keynote address, there was a big $199 on the screen behind him, instead he should have had an asterick next to the price! That would have at least been closer to the truth.
As a customer, whose account is in good standing each month, and who uses other AT&T services, why should I be penalized an additional $200 for wanting to purchase a 3G iPhone? Isn’t it Steve Jobs’ goal to make the iPhone a worldwide device and in as many consumers hands as possible? If so, this is surely not the path to victory! AT&T would actually make more money with the higher data plan accompanied with the 3G iPhone if they did not penalize their current customers who are willing to commit an additional 2 year contract more easily. Don’t bite the hand that pays your bills AT&T! Penalizing current customers who are not “upgrade eligible” an extra $200 vs. new customers is simply unacceptable.

I had the same question as Roy, but I've learn that being nice on the phone with a representative may help a lot, I have a few charges in my account today and I called to find out why, I'm always polite and I explained my situation, after she cleared my account crediting $45 dollars, I asked about the incoming Iphone, I explained that I really wanted to have the Iphone but only new customers and customers who have the option for upgrade can have it for the sales price... I told her that my upgrade date was in January 2009 and if she can do something about that, she nicely moved my upgrade date for 07/11/2008 :), now I can go to the store on Friday and get my Iphone at the price which is convenient to me.
Hope this may help people who are nice and polite on the phone.
I have a Treo600 that I synch with Lotus Notes on my work laptop (Windows XP) using ComonTime's mNotes conduit. Has anybody developed an application to synch iPhone with Lotus Notes?
My wife and I would like to switch to a pair of iphone 3Gs, but I still need to synch my work calendar and contacts between the iphone and laptop. My wife will likely use mobileMe on our home computer (iMac). I'd like to be able to have both my work and personal calendar entries on both the iPhones and our computers.
Anyone out there have any ideas or advice?
Thanks
Do I have to get the Enterprise data plan to connect to get email from Exchange server?

Hope this helps.. because it definitely isn't just $199 :)
i have had 2 previous iphones, when i heard rumors about the 3g one,i got rid of my other one and used my upgrade for a samsung blackjack to use in the meantime.i assumed the 3g iphone would not require me to be eligible for an upgrade, but now you have to be.so do i still qualify for the 299/299 price? i think i should because it still falls under "previous iphone owner"
My T-mobile plan is 1000 minutes + Free nights and weekends for $50. $15 for unlimited messaging and $15 for unlimited data. Thats $80 for everything, which is still cheaper than ATT's 900 minute plan WITHOUT Text messaging. I can buy an iphone from ATT, Cancel my service the next day and pay the $175 cancellation fee. Thats still less than buying an unsubsidized phone. As soon as they jailbreak this phone (and they will) Im all over it. But im not paying a $150 a month phone bill.
I would be all in if there was a $50 per month unlimited (or high) data and small voice plan. This seems too much for how I would use it. I'd love to have a cool phone which works as an ipod, but since i'm old (32), married, and with a newborn I just don't give a shit about text messaging. Give me an email instead you lazy bastage (or forgain acehole).
I know I'm hallucinating about my ideal price, so I'll be keeping my shitty bare-bones monthly voice plan and doing my web stuff on a real fucking computer like 90% of the rest of the 2% of the world who cares about this issue.
make that 95% of the rest of the less than 1% of the world who cares about this issue.
can i get iphone 3g in pay as u go .. if yes how much it will cost to me then ??
