Hidden Tap faucet flows from left to right as you go from dirty to clean
Here's one of those inventions that just makes sense. The Hidden Tap by Jelmer Moorman uses a sensor to follow your hands and dispense water. As you move your hands from left to right under the faucet, water goes from hot to cold just like a regular tap. We have no word on availability, but Hidden Tap is part of the Kunst Zonder Kapsones venture company started by Fernando H. Arias, so we have a feeling that given enough interest, this thing will be showing up in high-end contractors' bags of tricks at some point. Hit the continue link to see the thing in action, but be warned -- it's a .wmv file.

...make that
cout << "Go die in a hole" << endl;
hey look, i can write in code too!
...dammit engadget wheres the edit button!!!
First of all...I tried to type like you supercoold00che and am completely confounded as to how typing f-ed up like that is actually easier than keeping your fingers on the keyboard like God intended so there's no need for your nonsense.
Second, this is a pretty cool idea. Now I'm just waiting for a device to come along that actually makes "hovering" less stressful on the knees.
It be cooler if there were LED's that changed the waters colour from blue to red as it changes temps.
It already exists...

i can just imagine when this is newly installed, and most people doesnt know how it works
"oh, heres the sink, but wheres the faucet?"
"theres a slit here, maybe I shou......cra@p!!" - he touched the leftmost part
ridiculous, absolutely stupid invention. I am curious though what happens if you are washing your face by splashing water and you are covering the entire area. Does it take an average or randomly scald and freeze you?

the "a" button is closer than the "4" button you effin moron.
I know it senses your hands and dispense water.
But can it play Crysis
(Sorry there was no need for that)
Seems like it would be pretty easy to stray too far and get burned.
Still, a great invention. If I saw it I would likely spend way too much time washing my hands.
Don't you just wish you could ignore users on the Engdaget comment system?
Well, now you can with the Firefox Extension Egnored.

Cool. Now only if they will make it so the doors on most mens restrooms would swing out rather then in, we wouldn't have to use paper towels or our sleeves to open the doors after washing our hands.
watch out! one of those roach things from mimic is in the bathroom
Being Dutch, just to be complete, "kunst zonder kapsones" means something like "art without pretentions"... however "kapsones" is a bit of a slang word, so this translation isn't entirely correct, I wouldn't know a more direct translation into English.
One hand works now. Two hands coming with the Microsoft Surface release??
