For the price, Xbox Live is really not that great. Sony's online service is pretty robust and it is cheap as free.
but when you see microsoft dont bother with a hard disk as standard in their console, have a standard dvd drive size limit on their media as standard, no usb controller chargers, no motion sensors, no wi-fi as standard, and they simply release a unmistakably microshit machine and instead of making it work well, give it 4 red lights to at least do you to courtesy of telling you its either a bit fucked, quite fucked, very fucked, or totally fucked... well you kinda see that they evidently put all their money into xBox live and not the system.. and hey, they charge you for both!

I find it funny how the Xbox 360's firmware updates takes SECONDS to download and install and all the PS3 firmware updates takes like 10 minutes to d/l and install.
Also the Super Stardust HD game patch to make it support trophies... guess how big that sucker is? 225 MEGS!!!

well thats because the PS3 does firmware interactions that actually change the way the sistem operates,looks,behaves,360 well just dumb stuff to try and keep up like changing a few letters to persuade you and pull your hair.....
perhaps the ps3 updates are actually useful... kind of like updating winXP where you fix bugs made by previous updates...
i'll take a 2 minute download over a 10 second download when i'm not paying for an online subscription to play my games.

I agree. I just want a great selection of games and be able to play them online w/ friends or strangers to kick their asses and feel good about myself.
I don't care either for the most part. With that said though, they can be pretty neat sometimes. I guess it depends on the game and how they structure achievements.

I think achievements and trophies pull you out of the game. I hate it when I'm playing along, completely unaware of the outside world and then all of the sudden "BLOOP - ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED"
Annoying...there should be an option to never obtain them, because I don't care about my gamerscore.

I happen to like getting achievements, but I can understand what you're saying. There should be a feature where you can turn off the in-game notifications. I wouldn't use it, but I can see why some might.
I don't think they can implement a setting where you can simply turn off achievements altogether, though. Just picture all the idiots complaining about not getting gamerpoints because they accidentally turned it off. That would be too much of a headache.
I still say that they shouldnt have put the ENTIRE xmb in there. i would have liked a limited one, where all the features that i have to quit my game to do are removed so i can do things quicker since if im online i want to get back in the game asap.
although this is an improvement and i am enjoying it very much :)

My alltime favorite game! It even beat Ratchet and Clank, and I love that series!
I dont have a slow connection running 802.11n and its about 10 min or so. I am very excited about this update although its not the only reason to play the games it does make them a little more fun and makes you want to finish parts of the games you normally wouldnt even mess with. Way to go sony keep it going.....oh my xbox i still love you too.
1: Playstation 3 isn't 802.11n capable. You're only connecting to your router with 802.11g.
2: It wouldn't matter either way because there is a very high chance that 802.11g is significantly faster (54Mbps) than your actual connection to the internet.
For instance, I am running fiber internet and my advertised max speed is 15Mbps, and I get that normally. Cable internet can reach such speeds, DSL generally can't.

you know, i'm currently in possession of both and somehow the ps3 is still making me want to play it. the 360, eh not so much. and like i have some good games for both (360 dvd hack FTW) and all i've been doing is playing mgs4 until i can't move. yes i have gta4 on 360, but it has it's flaws too i'm sure the ps3 one does as well. and those complaining about the update, the xbox and ps3 updated at about the same speed.... both took around 2 mins dl + install. yes, the xbox 360 does it in game, but it still restarts the game after it's done and really? is it that big of a problem?
i don't see it, it doesn't ask u to update halfway through a game, it does it when u start so can't u wait the extra 2 minutes??

It's always available at least a day or two ahead of time on the System Update on the PS3, that page usually takes a day or two to be updated.

I'm still pissed that none of the current games I have seem to support the In-game music off my harddrive!!.. GTA especially, which was the one I was looking forward to using it with the most.

Are you serious? I just ripped my first CD to my 360 HDD yesterday(no idea why it took me so long... I just never thought about it before). Then I fired up GTA IV and was listening to it while I was playing. I also used to listen to mp3s from a USB flash drive all the time when playing PGR3 last year.
I can't believe PS3 doesn't have the same feature. I would love to also own one some day and even though this isn't a deal-breaker, it sucks knowing it doesn't allow that.
u know what i love most abou the ps3. u know feature continue to arrive with still plenty more on the horizon. xbox 360 reached their climax. sort of like gta 4. that game got boring fast and they will need to revamp that entire game if they want people to come back. most people realized it was just another updat after like 4 years of waiting there wasnt much new about it.

Sorry, but there is nothing boring about GTA IV. The graphics got a big boost and the ability to play online is huge advancement. The game is just as fun as GTA III or Vice City was when they came out. If you don't like it, that's your opinion, but there are hordes of people who would disagree with you.
As far as the xbox reaching its climax, that sure is a ridiculous thing to say. We're all very happy that the PS3 just got an update, but it's very close-minded to say the xbox won't be able to implement anything else ever again. You're using that whole "what have you done for me lately" attitude, which is just silly. It'll be just as ridiculous if Microsoft releases some cool update next month for the 360 and someone claims that PS3 alright hit its climax. Just ignorant.
JJacobs happens to be correct in saying that Sony is adding features that have already been available on the xbox since the beginning, but I'm sure that is not what PS3 fans want to hear, so it's like adding fuel to the fire and it's dumb to get in a whole argument about which system is better. They are both excellent systems! I hope they both continue to improve upon what they have and not rest on their laurels.

In-game XMB performs pretty poorly. It takes a second or two to load all the options in each category every time you page over.

Leaving sonys options to one, let the OS show the game where the musics at, and let the game play it. Thats why games need to be patched.

Sony told us that PS3 'will' be compatible with PS2, and no, they weren't. So all games from now on will be compatible with XMB, but popular games previously released (even Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, which is SUPPOSED to show all the capabilities of Sony PS3), will not be entirely popular, so this is a transition time.
I hope GTA can be popular, that will surely make me play that game again, and I really want Metal Gear Solid 4 to be compatible
One question though, will they ever make Sony PS3 AAC (ID3 tagging like everyone else) compatible? That will be NEAT

Ok so basically all games created from now on (maybe not even those games, but future games), will play MP3 files (not AAC files), and in order to not infringe the patent by Microsoft, the game needs to play those files.
Ok, so Smackdown vs Raw 2009, FIFA 09, Madden 09, Prince of Persia... the new games, will support XMB.
However, some of those games, which are in the final stages of production, will not support XMB (music, that is the most important thing)
So I would say 50% of the titles until September will fully support XMB Music, and by the end of the year I would say that nearly 100% of the games will support XMB Music playback
GTA IV doesn't works with XMB
GTA IV works with the XMB, so far every game I've tried works with that, its the in-game music that everyone, including me is dissapointed about. Hopefully Infinity Ward and Rockstar get to patching CoD4 and GTA IV here ASAP so that I can listen to my music while I'm playing..
Once again though, I realize how much of a dick company Microsoft is.. patents like that are just ridiculous.. But I kinda hope Sony can get a fix for being able to play music not on my HDD.. I mean, I have friends who can plug their iPods into their 360's and listen to it while on Live.. I'd love to be able to do that..
