Remember how when we launched
Engadget Poland a couple weeks ago we said that we were just getting started rolling out new international versions of the site? Well, today we're announcing two exciting new Engadgets we've waited for years to get started: Korean and German! They're both in beta, so to speak, so try not to mind the sawdust as we work out the kinks. Big ups to Brian, Jason, Manfred, and everyone at our international teams that made these new sites possible. Oh, and if you're waiting for Engadget in your language of choice, don't worry, Korean and German aren't the last we'll be rolling out!

Oh, darauf habe ich tatsächlich lange gewartet .. sucht ihr Autoren für die deutsche Ausgabe?
Jendrik @ Jul 3rd 2008 3:52PM
Nice, let me know if you need any help =)
A lot of articles to be translated, huh?
DestroyerMTL @ Jul 3rd 2008 3:56PM
Eingadget!
Simon @ Jul 3rd 2008 3:57PM
Might be looking for French translators ?
Eli @ Jul 3rd 2008 5:46PM
Seconded. Be sure, Ryan, that you know that many of us here can help with a French site, including myself!

I know you used some internet translator. No koreans say like that.
luuk @ Jul 3rd 2008 3:58PM
YEAH Lets change a perfect good website in one with less....
like how many "german-gadget" people cant read english?
jason @ Jul 3rd 2008 4:02PM
good point. I havent met very many germans that could not speak english.
seems like a waste. Russia has large droves of people, and most of them cannot speak english (or speak english well). It would make more since to do it in good old russian rather than polish (which doesnt apply to this post but the polish site) or german.
kjb434 @ Jul 3rd 2008 4:04PM
Yeah,
And many Europeans speak it better than many Americans.
Maybe we should have an Engrish site! (and no, i didn't misspelled English by accident)
PJD @ Jul 3rd 2008 8:40PM
I suspect you will find more english speaking people in poland than in germany. i am german, but which site will i take now? the english which i sometimes have difficulties to understand because of the slang or the german which wont post all the news - or will they?
Isaac @ Jul 3rd 2008 4:00PM
Why do you keep making these sites? Spanish (Maybe Chinese) is the other most read language besides English yet the Spanish site has no comments on any of the articles.
I mean, if people actually really used the other language sites I would be more then happy for you guys to use your resources to build better ones but they don't.
CUBSWILLWIN @ Jul 3rd 2008 4:56PM
In my opinion, they are just doing because it's fun. If not, I don't know.
cf292007 @ Jul 3rd 2008 6:06PM
i think they are doing it to compete with gizmodo. They have versions of their sites for Australians, Japanese, Dutch, Italian, Danish, Spanish, British, and French people.
Scott @ Jul 3rd 2008 10:43PM
Australian and British? Must be a joke.
Jakob Henner @ Jul 4th 2008 4:19AM
Gizmodo doesn't has any Danish version, but I guess the British and Australian versions focus on the country itself and not the language.
But a Scandinavian Engadget could be cool, Norwegian and Danish are almost identical. Swedish is way different but we understand it. But I'm having no problem understanding the "official Engadget"!
The Dude @ Jul 3rd 2008 4:01PM
Das Engadget?
giantenemycrab @ Jul 3rd 2008 4:01PM

happymaster23 @ Jul 3rd 2008 4:05PM
This is nice, but which languages are on the way?
If there can be Polish version of Engadget I hope, that Czech is no problem too... ;)
test @ Jul 3rd 2008 4:18PM
im from germany and i dont think that a german page makes sense
nearly every german can at least read english
so who needs a german version
for example gizmodo has a german page but i never read it because it way behind their english version of it an of course way behind your page
to make a long text short
there is no need for a german engadget site
schöne grüße aus deutschland
greetings from germany
Stefdio @ Jul 3rd 2008 4:35PM
Hope to see in italian, my english is soooooo baaaaad XD
connorcam @ Jul 3rd 2008 4:39PM
Harro Hans Brix!
Yuri @ Jul 3rd 2008 4:40PM
Ooh! Do an Engadget Simplified Japanese site!
I can only read a few hundred Kanji =( So if you made it all in hiragana and katakana then I wouldn't feel so stupid XP
diulei @ Jul 3rd 2008 6:58PM
Good god, a page in all kana... that would be a long of vertical scrolling
electron @ Jul 3rd 2008 4:41PM
how come they have different/better posts on the german site????
Ahmed Alzayani @ Jul 3rd 2008 4:41PM
Arabic Engadget http://ar.engadget.com/
mcbeanish @ Jul 3rd 2008 4:44PM
ricky jeon and thaddeus herrmann be rocking those sites...
jean @ Jul 3rd 2008 4:45PM
when engadget in FRENCH?
lUp @ Jul 4th 2008 9:56AM
don't be so stubborn and learn a foreign language, frenchie :D
only because of you government protecting the "glorious french language" doesn't necessarily mean, that you, for one, can learn something :)
on a side note, the german RSS feed is broken (XML syntax error)
hq @ Jul 3rd 2008 4:45PM
finally the sometimes quite funny engadget headlines become completely unfunny when translated into german ;) (like a lot of funny english things become unfunny in german... and vice versa)
geezer @ Jul 3rd 2008 6:00PM
exactly my thinking, I am German (living in Scotland) and read a few of the headlines on the new German Engadget site and the translation is, well, awful and the joke lost. It's simply because of the wordplay in the English language that can't be translated. Besides that, it's behind the original site so why bother reading it...but I guess the ad space will sell well ;)
I'll stick with the English version, Dankeschön!
Kei @ Jul 3rd 2008 4:47PM
Still waiting on Engadget Arabia.
You've got a good person over here *raises hand*

Karl Viklund @ Jul 3rd 2008 4:53PM
I don't see the need for this at all. Most people can read and understand some English. It's not a good idea to divide the community. I think it's bad
Daniel @ Jul 3rd 2008 5:01PM
ooh crazy im a mix of the 2 ethnicities, and can't read both languages but i can speak korean lol
Qugeist @ Jul 3rd 2008 5:04PM
yay! anyway, I've been reading Engadget English and Chinese Traditional (as well as Autoblog En/ChTrad) for a or two now :)
shmengie @ Jul 3rd 2008 5:08PM
is that a schnitzel in your leiderhosen or are you just happy to see me?
L.Rawlins @ Jul 3rd 2008 5:11PM
I'd like to see an Engadget English.
That's right, english English. All this 'after the jump', 'deets' and 'big ups' are just down right confusing.
;oP
Interpol @ Jul 3rd 2008 5:21PM
Any guesses on when Engadget Klingon will be out?
Sascha @ Jul 3rd 2008 5:53PM
kudos to you guys for another Engadget language version.
well due to the fact that i am running some german sites and blogs i can only tell you, not every german wants to read news in english!
we are still talking about the most spoken language in europe guys and engadget is doing a good job to support it!
just make sure that your german editors are keeping the site updated!
and for all the critics, just look at the german version of The Inquirer. It's doing really well.
Anyways, your german site is in my newsreader and i will make sure to support it with some backlinks (like you guys did with my blogs so many times before)
Cheers
Sascha
