So here's a bit of brilliant statistics work for you: The Pew Internet & American Life research project has determined after endless polling and number crunching that 62 percent of American dial-up users have no interest in upgrading their connections to something a bit more peppy. In fact, only 14 percent of them would upgrade if they could. They cite high prices, barrier to entry, and -- ooh, is Survivor on? We look at it this way: if you're not already on broadband with the
multitude of
options, and you
can get
broadband (i.e. you're not stranded out in the wilderness) in one way shape or form, you probably just don't really care, and we can make fun of you because you're not reading this post anyway.

Theres really no reason to not have broadband anymore.
I hear the people who live in a rural area and have no access to broadband. I lived on a lake for 3 years and it would have cost us a 10 thousand dollar installation fee to have cable run out to us. We ended up getting DSL. Most major telephone companies offer DSL these days - its not quite as fast as broadband typically, but its still a great deal faster than dialup, it wont interrupt your phone line, and if you have phone service you can get it cheap and easy since you already subscribe to the phone company.
As for the cost - dialup is generally around 10 dollars a month and broadband averages 20-30, depending on your speed and ISP. It sounds like a lot when people say that broadband is 3 times as expensive as dialup, but its just an extra 10-20 dollars a month. Even if you aren't willing to pay for speed, its worth it for the convenience of being able to use multiple computers and your phone at the same time.
I propose a $20 dial-up tax.
man i had to post. why be stuck on dial up? also who has home phones anymore? also dsl is cheaper then dial up almost all of the time. so theres no reason not to upgrade. your paying more for dial up. lmao suckers.
Bah, the internet on my phone is much faster than dialup, and its only old nasty 2.5G EDGE.

i happen to like aol , its one of the best, if aol would get a highspeed line it would take control again, you can only get true aol on dial up. i tried high speed , its fast , but it also will mess up your computer fast , so if you want to have a full time computer pit crew for your " personal computer " thats fine ....maybe someday employers will realise where all there lost productivity is going....??
and to top it off they usually include an OUTRAGEOUS contract and even more OUTRAGEOUS early cancellation fees (usually about 15$ per month of whats left in your contract which is usually 24 months)
i don,t know what this upgrade is your trying to give me, but i do know i don,t want it i want nothing to do with downloading etc. please stop doing this thank you margaret hurder
I still use dial-up because I can't afford DSL, nor do I need the extra costs just to get my mail faster. When I lived in south Florida I got 115k bps thru the phone line- now I live in N. Fl. and only get 56k ?? I can't view videos or load U-Tube but Who Cares!!
The Biggest drawback is trying to view the weather (storm tracking radar) -ever try to view
anything from satellite when it's raining? No tv No internet Nothing but a higher monthly bill
also if you cancel your land line how do you call for help when needed during a storm or emergency????? KEEP THE DIAL-UP!!!
Glad so many of you are so rich. My dialup costs nothing, and I do my research and run two Websites with no problems (or high blood pressure). Yes, some downloads take next-door-to-forever; dialuppers just switch to other work and let the computer get on with it. As for all those YouTube videos, I don't have time to watch them anyway-- too busy-- and this way, though I do give in and watch one from time to time, I don't have those hundreds of niggly temptations!
