Commodore 64 users create perfect nerdstorm

There's nerd and then there's Commodore 64 nerd. Bring them together in a Commodore 64 LAN party and you've got a nerdstorm of mythical proportions. The world's first Commodore 64 LAN party was held in nerdistan Cincinnati last weekend. It consisted of eight C64s with Ethernet cartridges playing NetRacer off a central, Java-based server. So Geeksta it hurts.

welcome back to the 1980's time of dated c64 games with no fun
i think you are confused with the 1880's minus the c64
You think C64 games are no fun? Inconceivable!
Castles of Dr Creep
That's all I'm going to say.
Indeed the games were no fun back then. That's why there are so many emulators (both software like frodo and hardware like c64 dtv) plus even net radio stations, cd releases etc of game music. (oh well)
Now the graphics might look better than we dreamed of back then and the sound is as natural as it can get. But the gameplay were the focus of the game back then, not the graphics.
Beside, the c64 wasn't out in 1980, it was august 1982.
I think you are confused, period. Today's games suck.
LOAD "$",8,FUN
Wow, to think I wasted time during all those Halo parties when I could have been racing Commodore 64 style.
i would be scared to see the participants in that.
don't act like you don't know me, jason
hey in chevy chase's Vacation (the original)
was that a commodore 64 that he mapped out his route to wally world with in the beginning?
this is great..
walking down memory lane..
...Out of memory, IOException
POKE 345558
SYS 448345
I always thought it would be great to play Commando death match with my friends over telephone line back when I was five years old. Why didn't the little bastards made it possible then? No it's all too late.
My friends are knocking down my door...
___ to get to my Commodore 64...
My friends are knocking down my door,
--- TO GET TO MY COMMODORE 64!
*strokes Commodore 64*
nah... not tonight, baby...
*grabs Virtual Boy*
Yeah, this is more like it...
Gonna make love to your link port!
creepy on sooooo many levels...
M.U.L.E. FTW!
Indeed - and Archon. God, I used to love those C64 games... *sigh*
Bruce Lee! Many, many hours lost to that, Test Drive, Summer Games, Beach Head, and Rambo: First Blood Part II.
Wow, I just got misty.
Hopefully they all have Epyx FastLoad cartridges so the games won't take forever and a day to load...
commodore 64 kicks pc's arse!
...though it is the geekiest thing i've heard in a while!
(not that i wouldn't have liked being at the lan party!)
First C64 Lan party? Wtf... I know of many people that attends commodore parties. And they have been doing so since the 80's. The network cars and modems for c64s has been out a while too
What did they do to pass the time while the game loaded?
uhhhhh...I've owned both and I would say that the c64 games loaded a LOT faster than current games.
Well, considering that for properly ripped one part games, given the correct hardware, typing LOAD "*",8 actually takes longer than loading the game. (Parallel interface)
How the hell did WoW become so popular with this kind of technology right on its ass?
LOAD "*" ,8,1
ftw
I was wondering why the hell i couldn't get anything to load on my c64 i was forgetting the extra coma. Time to call out of work and break it out again packed it up thought it was broke
PRESS PLAY ON TAPE
Real geeks used LOAD "*",11,1
A fourth 1541 ftw!
What was that load "*",11,1?
umm hello IMPOSSIBLE MISSION????
STAY AWHILE... STAAAAAY FOREEEEVEEEERRRR!!!!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!! [down the chute]
Am I the only one who liked the 128 better?
Many (if not all) former c64 users currently are not nerd but senior programmers, engineer, chief manager and such. After all "computer stuffs" become a lucrative business, ex 8bits computer users did take the lead and was a good bet.
Ah! That lovely 1541 to the right!
Exact same thing I thought when I saw it! I remember you could run some kind of software hack to make it run faster by turning off the periodic break it would take to cool down. At least I think that is what was going on.
And if you were really hip you could get the 1571. The newer sleeker faster version.
Yeah, never got a 1571, just that 1541. But I also had a four color plotter with a paper roll of about 10 cm wide...
Sword of Fargoal!!!
Oh wow, my hometown in Toronto desparately needs this. I think there's a huge amount of Comm nerds in my 'hood.

World of Commodore in Toronto in the early 90's.
I took the bus at 12am Montreal with friends to get to TO. at 6am, just to spend the day at the WoC at the convention center. It was the most fun trip I've ever had with friends. Ah.. the memories.
I loved the C64. Good thing we have emulators!
There is no doubt that they can outnerd anyone with that.
Ah, the C64....I lusted after one but had to settle for a VIC 20....
i missed out on a great generation
whoa
impossible mission
raid over moscow
raid on bungling bay
bruce lee
summer games, winter games, world games
GI JOE
wizard of wor
druid
gradius
racing construction set!!!
so many amazing games for the c64, i can't even begin to list them all
Thank you for that, I could not for the life of my memory think of any good games I used to play . . . but I could still remember that floppy with like 50 games I got from a family friend. Bruce Lee and GI JOE were our favorites. Miss programming a stupid bouncy ball for an hour and saving it on a casette tape.
oh, and the 'FASTLOAD' cartridge was awesome.
There was a two key shortcut for
load"*",8,1
run
