iPhone 3G breaks cover, shows up in Swiss store display

You probably saw this one coming, but with that massive slew of countries and partners Apple has wrangled for the new iPhone launch, that July 11th street date was bound to be neglected. So here you have it, courtesy of the french blog Gadget O'Mac, an iPhone 3G on display in a shop in Switzerland. While the shots may be blurry, we at least get to see this thing in the hands of someone other than an Apple employee, and coupled with that Portuguese leak, this should thoroughly whet your appetite for Friday. I turned my iPod back to it vanilla status until 2.0 comes out. I don't want to wait 2-4 days (speculative) for the jailbreak community to say jailbreaking is compatible for iPhone/iPod OSX 2.0. Then Apple throws in a few curveballs and screws everyone up. It's been a good run to all the contributors to the jailbreak community but the app store is going to prevail. Especially if they have the rumored 4000 apps online at launch.

you don't seem to think the addition of a gps chip along with the glorified 3g transmitter has anything to do with the plastic backing? or maybe it has to do with those radio waves not propogating through metal that well...

That's Mobilezone! I hope Apple sue them to bankrupt. They're idiots when it comes to service and their slogan "best for communication".

I would never buy anything there even if it's the only store to sell the iPhone!

I dont know what the difference is between the original iphone/"FAKE metal look" and the new 3G/plastic one. (In regards to materials)

You know that the back of the original was not metal or anything of the sort. Next you will be asking for "Metal look" Macbooks as opposed to black or white ones.

One thing I am hoping we get with the plastic back is better phone/3G/wifi reception (naturally 3G reception will be better : ). My girlfriend's plastic macbook owns my macbook pro on picking up wifi.

I've heard they have a little more trouble with the aluminum bodies and wifi. Somewhat expectedly (small antenna), the iphones WiFi is not the greatest at picking up a signal but its good enough.

The back of the original was metal except for the plastic strip near the bottom. That was for signal reception, since metal blocks cell signals. That's why the new one is all plastic. GPS means it needs better reception, and it has more antennas.

im used to seeing things like htc products and other japenese built goodies brought to other countries first, but whats the deal with apple? youd think that they would display the 3G iphone here first, or youd think the first person to purchase one would be an american. wtf?

N95, Touch Diamond, Raphael, etc...

all made overseas and NOT brought to the United States first.

does anyone know of a reputable place that i could buy a first gen iphone?
all the ones on ebay look like scams to me.

i have thought it over and decided i don't need the 3g iphone. there is not enough appeal for me over the first gen.

i am only thinking about getting an iphone because the phone i have now broke . they tend to do that when dropped on concrete from a tall height.

do you think AT&T,or Apple, will lower the price on the first gen after the release of the 3 g?
