US iPhone 3G gets unboxed and handled

Continuing this day of iPhone 3G impropriety, the Boy Genius has somehow secured himself a brand-spanking-new iPhone 3G, and has unboxed it for all the world to see. First off, our condolences to the AT&T or Apple employee who will probably lose their job over this one, and then a tip of the hat to BGR for pulling off such a daring stunt. The pictures, however, should be less exciting (since we've been seeing a lot of these today) -- still, nice to know what you're about to get into! We've included a few more shots after the break.

so still no flash for the camera and still no video recording, correct? apple should have listened to what consumers had to say about the first gen and then should have went from there. can we have a show of hands here-

would you rather have the new features, including the 3G, or...

flash for camera
video recording
actual mms (send/receive)
memory card slot
removable battery
cut/copy/paste...
and a slew of other things that the cheapest of phones these days come standard with. oh, and whats the deal with at&t not having an unlimited texting option?

i will admit that these are cool, but you sacrifice so much just to own an iphone. they end up costing more than what theyre worth in my opinion. sigh. see you in line at the mall of america apple store friday morning. unless i move to portugal tomorrow

Would you rather have a Symbian / WinMo phone with all those basic features you deel are missing, or perhaps:

Widescreen iPod
16 GB space (no phone has so much internal memory)
Unsurpassed interface
A complete web-browser (dont tell me about the lack of flash. I've used opera - and it's a joke)
Apps that are cool and actually work, as opposed to the garbage there is on symbian (dunno about WinMo, never used it)
etc.

People who buy the iPhone do so for a reason, something which you'll never understand. Apple has simply brought personal devices upto an entirely new level. And it's still improving it, even though the competition lags miles behind. And you still say you're gonna be in line for the iPhone. How hypo critic!

It's pretty, being an Apple fanboy, and "It's what I want, BBL, need my black frame glasses, and starbucks coffee, also gtg college" are all bad answers.

My 16yo daughter asked me to NOT get her one of these. She says she's not smug enough for it. So I got her another SonyEricsson to replace her SonyEricsson that finally broke after 4 years. (all the old cables work in the new phone, too) Wish it had lasted a bit longer then I would have gotten her the upcoming new SE Walkman w/3G....

You have got to have a $45/mo Enterprise data plan with this iphone for it to be useful, and some of the other services cost additional on top of that. No current ATT customer should be purchasing it with upgrade pricing, they'd be crazy to change any existing data plans for the current ones.

C'mon! There's obviously more elegance here... I personally don't follow the hype but i guess that would be different if i got one.. :). Being a technology junkie myself tho, If you can justify it and afford it, go for it!

p.s. my condolences to the guy who is gonna lose his job for this... he'll go down as a martyr tho :D
