Mitsubishi's 1080p FL7000U projector now available for $15,000
New beater / better car? New HD projector? Pay off that second mortgage? New HD projector? C'mon folks, the choice here is crystal clear, is it not? Mitsubishi's 1080p FL7000U is apparently now ready for consumption here in the US of A, but that native 1,920 x 1,080 resolution, 5,000 ANSI lumens and 1,000:1 contrast ratio will cost you a pretty penny. 1,499,500 of them, in fact, though we heard through the grapevine that you can find it somewhat cheaper on the streets.

$15,000 for a beater car doesn't make sense.... a "better car" would... hey, that's my 2 cents anyway!

Its times like these that you just have to laugh. Within the next year, we should start to see the laser based projectors that will blow these out of the water for affordable prices. Its a head scratcher when you look at projectors like this. If i spend that much, I want drastic difference over entry level projectors, not this.

Omg I cant do the math! My head will EXPLODE!

The only point of this proejctor would be to project on very large screens. (5000 lumens). If the rated contrast is only 1000:1, thats not so hot compared to other modern projector's like JVC's RS1, which is one of the best projectors I've seen.
High output low contrast projectors are a dime a dozen, the fact that mitsubishi just came out wiht another one isn't newsworthy at all. Its the high contrast home theater projectors that are worth watching.

Its not the contrast ratio thats interesting, its ability to show a decent picture in a well-lit room xD
Just a business projector with a business price, really not news worthy. Yeah, I'd prefer to pay off mortgage instead. Or buy a car?...

Man, I just feel like I'm watching the movie "Gung-Ho" all over again with that "15,000" number there. Wow...

I hope the HELOC application I just submitted gets approved! Ima gonna buy at least three of these, gotta have one for the living room, bedroom, and the head. Does anyone know where I can get some decent speakers for under $50K?
Jesse @ Jul 9th 2008 4:55PM
You would need 1,499,500,000 pennies to actually make that amount. (Or so my bad mental math tells me)
Backwards People @ Jul 9th 2008 4:59PM
That is one hell of a squeal of a deal.

ok

Mitsu sent me one of the prototypes for this projector last year and I have to say it's pretty damn impressive. I know $15k seems like a lot when you're used to buying 1k lumen projectors for your basement, but 5k lumen projectors that are needed in conference rooms with medium amounts of ambient light often run much more than this one and with less resolution.
collegekid13 @ Jul 10th 2008 1:45AM
couldn't you just make the whole home theater package for that amount. curtains included.
