Rogers caves on iPhone 3G plans, offers up 6GB for $30 a month
Those kind, gentle Canadians have been oh-so-politely demanding a few heads on sticks ever since Rogers' super-spendy iPhone 3G price plans were announced. Well, apparently their cries have been heard, and now Rogers is launching a promotional offer along with the iPhone of 6GB of data for $30 a month -- not quite unlimited data, but close enough -- which can be added on top of any regular voice plan. The promo will be available for iPhone buyers who activate with a three year contract before August 31. Also, perhaps in a bid to dispel some nasty rumors about a major iPhone shortage, Rogers will be hosting 8AM launch day events at six Rogers Plus stores in major Canadian cities, complete with a free breakfast. Mmm, breakfast.

Check the Telcel's (mexican iphone 2 provider) plans, a 800 mgbs movie = 2700 american dollars.
And u complained canadians...
f$uck rogers.
gone bell and never looking back.
except for star choice
This isn't the best Rogers could do, but looking at the plans they originally offered, it is actually a better deal.
Check out this chart:
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3080/2657547358_a9024c9c19_o.jpg
Looking at this chart, you can see that it is actually cheaper to go with a separate voice and data plan that will get you 66% more daytime minutes, earlier evenings (6pm), and most importantly 15x more data.
Plus, you get unlimited talk and text to 5 of your friends. You do lose the Hotspot access, but with 6gb of data, that may not be an issue for some people.
I was there in line from 5.45am and didn't get an iPhone. They only had 20 16GB iPhones for sale at the Dundas store. This was all a publicity stunt.
p.s. oh yeah, the "free breakfast" was some juice and a granola bar. Thanks Rogers!
In Mexico is a different story: According to Steve Jobs @ the WWDC keynote, the iPhone would have a standard global prize of $199 and $299 usd for the 8GB and 16GB devices. Here in Mexico, Carlos Slim's Telcel decided they won't use that prize and phones here are reaching $455 usd! This is only for the device, then you have to add your communication pack. Here is something wrong, very wrong... www.neltelcel.com to support Mexico's pledge.
*sigh*
Always the people who know shit about shit are the ones largest to complain.
You cannot compare Rogers to AT&T because the market is completely different.
According to a recent newpaper article Canada has about 60% penetration of cellphones whic translates to approximately 20 million people.
That's 20 million people for all carriers in Canada Rogers has about a third of that, so 6--8 million people.
According to http://www.multichannel.com/article/CA6404685.html AT&T's customer base for wireless is 58 million, in 2007.
This is a %700 percent larger income base. Rogers cannot sell plans at the same prices of AT&T because they don't have the income to cover the costs.
And before someone brings up England or Germany, remember the size of the country reduces operatibng costs because the network doesn't have to be as big. Canada is a big country with a low population density. It's more expensive to run a national network here.
The only way you're going to go over the 6 gig cap is to stand there and download dozens of youtube videos. 6 gig is more than enough for 95-99% of users.
