HP's iPAQ 910 smartphone now available
Finally, the 14 people who have been waiting patiently can now get their hands on HP's iPAQ 910 Windows Mobile-based phone. There's not much to say you haven't already read -- the HSDPA, WiFi, and GPS equipped device can be purchased unlocked from HP's online store for the tidy sum of $499.99. They're shipping now... so what are you waiting for?

Looks weird tho! Doesn't it?
Looks like a T-Mobile Dash, but without the style.
I don't follow WinMo devices after suffering thru a WM5.0 device (never again), but this doesn't LOOK that impressive. Perhaps there's something really impressive about the hardware or capabilities over other WM phones though.
That picture is not correct.
Updated device picture is at the clickthrough read link.
@Flooty: good call, the actual device is MUCH better. This angular version makes the screen look tiny for some reason.
Yeah. Darth Vader called, he wants his phone back.
qm,
Screen looks the same size in the HP picture. But the device does look marginally better on HP's site than it does here.
Yeah, it doesn't impress me as much. Maybe because of the form factor? It's on the chunky side, but it does have a touch screen.
I'll more impressed with either the Nokia E71 or the iPhone 3G (but more exited for the nokia :-) )
rofl. look at these back to back articles
IPhone - 407 Comments + 72 diggs.
IPAQ - 50 comments
Btw what carrier will get this one?
It's Unlocked. RTFA
none. This is direct from HP so they didn't have to bow to stupid carrier demands.
OMG WTF
"I'm so sick of reading these posts that have NOTHING to do with the iphone!! Why do you force me to read these Engadget???"
I was enjoying reading comments that weren't about the iPhone, but you just ruined it.
Andy - sort of like how some people enjoy reading articles about the iPhone until the Apple haters come in and ruin it. Sound familiar? Or do you think it's ok to be an ass as long as you're doing it in an Apple related article?
@Zak
I don't know if you read his comment history, but I didn't find any where he said anything asshat like in an iPhone post. I think the problem is that you are the ass.
what am i waiting for...the iphone 3g! DUH!
Yuk, Windows..
iPhone killer!!!!
Fug-lee
Holy shit you mean there are other smart phones other then the iPhone, when did this happen? I mean with the 45 Apple posts today, 35 of which are about the iPhone you would have thought it was the only phone in the whole wide world.
On another note, I still think this looks like a Palm Centro.
For real...
What was the point of creating Egadget Mobile if the posts aren't gonna be split about..
Defeats the purpose of having multiple web blog departments..
I love the iPhone and all but all the post today should go on Engadget Mobile or even the apple weblog.
@Dan
Better question, why have TUAW when 80% of the first page today was Apple crap. I seriously read one or two articles at the top of the page and then had to skip all the way to the bottom to get past the obscene number of Apple articles. Seriously, you have a blog COMPLETELY dedicated to Apple use it.
I like this quote, "There's not much to say you haven't already read".
Why don't I see it on any of the iPhone posts? You know where it actually is true.
bitch, bitch bitch.
Whine, Whine, Moan.
I hate Apple.
kal and pops, stop bitching and use this.

Looks like it could take a beating...
Why post a old image of a prototype ? The actual HP 910 doens't look like this anymore.

Have I just wasted my time making a post because Engadget cocked up the picture?
@Trumpton
Yes... http://blogs.zdnet.com/mobile-gadgeteer/images/ipaq9101.jpg
They never cock up Apple pictures though...wonder why...
they can't be bothered actually researching a story when there are more "notable" iPhone apps to report on, like those that can identify random pills you find in your medicine cabinet.
Thanks for pointing that out. Instead of an ugly design from 2003, they went with the ugly design from 2004. Whew!
It's a pretty damn ugly looking thing - haven't they learnt anything from Apple? - and that keyboard has been ripped directly off the Centro.
This is the wrong image, the real product does look a lot better. Not to mention it is unlocked.
what the hell is this in my hand? oh, it's a business manager, whew. I'll proceed to wear my clothes labeled 'business suit' and go to work in my 'business car'
You forgot business socks. You know, cause its business time.
This old picture Engadget has posted is pretty hideous, but the actual finished version is pretty decent looking. Not really slick or memorable, but it definitely falls into "not ugly" territory. I was thinking about picking one of these up to replace my old T-Mo Dash.
How about giving a real review of this device? Give a breakdown analysis of it and compare it to other major phone/PDAs. Give us the strong points with a focus on the fact that it's meant for business use and not for your average consumer.
I don't think that HP got the memo. Nobody cares about iPAQs anymore. Give up!
At least they are not following the pattern of other competitors by making a "me too" product. Otherwise, kudos for HP. It's still clunky looking, and would look perfectly fine if it was the 80's.
HP just doesn't get it!
You can't release a product 7 MONTHS late and the day before a highly (if I may be so bold to say) anticipated competitor phone is launched to much media fanfare. NO ONE WILL NOTICE!
Had this been released back in December, I very likely would have bought one. Now, all the specs are outdated and competition from the likes of HTC and Samsung will make this device a failure.
Businesspeople (at whom this phone is targeted) will pay attention to this, as they are interested in business phones.
MOTO Q9 FTW?
its fugly in a cute way...kind of?
@ mauricio
that comments funny with your avater (thumbnail) picture lol
Nice to see a new, interesting IPAQ. That said, I'm a little sad at how HP ruined the IPAQ range. Compaq turned the IPAQ into the first true Palm killer, and for a while it looked like HP would achieve the first useable cellphone PDA in some IPAQ models. Now, it is but a component of brand history.
it looks like a treo some what but i think it well a good phone still
iPhone killer!!! This thing is going to crush the iPhone.
I wonder how come HP hasn't take the HTC route, and create a custom interface for WinMo? I mean, I've seen HP do cool things like the multi-touch apps for the TouchSmart 2, Quickplay, and a few other custom HP apps on Windows.
Wouldn't it make sense for their phone unit to go the HTC route as well? But then again, they really do just business phones. But business phones could always use a little more edge, right? Or else people would go straight to Blackberries, or other WinMo business phones.
Way to pick a launch day, HP...
Since HP will be lucky to sell even one or two of these, I forsee every HP employee (and their uncle) getting one of these (or more) as stocking stuffers for xmas 2008.
Come on. Seriously. Did anyone actually think someone would pay money for this?
