It's iPhone 3G tear-down time
It's that time again. With the first retail sale of any hotly anticipated device comes the ritualistic tear down. iFixit is with us in New Zealand for the honors on the iPhone 3G. Squeemish fanboys might want to look away. Haters, lean in and watch the carnage, the action is live and apparently, a little dirty.

I know this is the most useless comment ever, but ya might want to clean the nails. Just saying but good post anyway.
John @ Jul 10th 2008 10:24AM
Agreed.
bohsocks @ Jul 10th 2008 10:30AM
Uhhh.... isn't what they mean by saying it's "a little dirty." Or did they mean dirty in the.... we're taking off this device's covering kind of way?
J-Rad @ Jul 10th 2008 10:56AM
At least they apologized:
"(Sorry about the dirty fingernails-- we've been waiting in line in cold Auckland for a while.)"
RUGRLN @ Jul 10th 2008 11:07AM
Agreed!
giuliop @ Jul 10th 2008 11:10AM
"Sorry about the dirty fingernails-- we've been waiting in line in cold Auckland for a while"
Unless they were digging their way through the line, I can't see how that's relevant.
XanDy @ Jul 10th 2008 7:54PM
Where's the battery picture?? upload more pics
VegetaFH1 @ Jul 11th 2008 1:37PM
Im sorry but that is the most stupid comment ive ever seen
A) Waiting for something like that in line for... i dont even wanna guess how many hours
B) Doing dirty work like a techy is something ur nail have to deal with, and by the sounds of it, people like you have to deal with aswell
C) On top of all that, these people bring great reviews, they do the "dirty" work so others dont have to, they bring very technical detailed notes about how things work, who the hell are u to critisize them?
When you become as good and advanced as they are, THEN u can talk, until then, keep ur fingers to urself
+ZERO+ @ Jul 10th 2008 10:23AM
Wow... that was probably the fastest that I've ever seen a release, then tear down. Great job staying on top of it for us who stayed home sick today :D
numbsock @ Jul 10th 2008 11:03AM
actually the folks at gizmodo were a bit faster xD what is up with this crave for dissections
Tinu @ Jul 10th 2008 11:32AM
Can you remove the "Do not remove" part? lol :-P
PS3guy @ Jul 10th 2008 10:26AM
What a waste of time and money, one word stupid ass.
bohsocks @ Jul 10th 2008 10:29AM
One word stupid ass? ......What?
And why are you crying? It's not like it's your money.
tyler @ Jul 10th 2008 10:31AM
Some might say your ps3 was a waste of time and money.
I'm not. I own one and I love it. Just saying..
PS. 'stupid ass' is two words.
Stiv @ Jul 10th 2008 10:32AM
Which one is the "one word"?
L2count
Homeboy @ Jul 10th 2008 10:58AM
Waste of money? Not at all.
1. Be the first to dissect an iPhone 3G and post pictures online.
2. Back links from Engadget result in massive traffic increase.
3. Increased traffic result in more ad revenue.
4.??????????????
5.Profit.
Mobius_1 @ Jul 10th 2008 11:26AM
@ Homeboy
Profit = pocket money = more iPhones + more other gadgets = more teardowns = more cash
This is how you make iPhones from one iPhone, kids
Joe @ Jul 10th 2008 11:23AM
You know, you can't spell "PS3guy" without "3g".
I've got two words for you: You're a stupid ass.
Backlin @ Jul 10th 2008 11:37AM
Who knew spaces were parts of words?
^That's a long word up there.
cantcount @ Jul 10th 2008 3:02PM
Im pretty sure "stupid ass" is one word.....or 3 words......but its definitely not 2 words
Sith Lord 24 @ Jul 10th 2008 3:26PM
i think its 5 words like " the bs3 sucks monkey Balls "
YesHone @ Jul 10th 2008 4:16PM
In 1 word or more...
You must absolutely HATE movies and Television... You'll notice in many films certain items, such as Mercedes, Lamborghini or even entire Big Rigs explode.... It's money well spent, wouldn't you say?
Things like this have, at the VERY least, an entertainment factor...
Mike10010100 @ Jul 10th 2008 7:30PM
I'm sorry to have to hijack the 3rd comment, but after reading all of the other comments about how Engadget should post on other things, have you not noticed how Engadget posts about the RED camera
and Motorola
and Seagate
and Kodak
and V12 concept designs
and Breakout Box
and Sony laptops
and Nvidia chips
and MTI micro
and the Blackberry Bold
and the Samsung U4
and..........?
Seriously, the fact that you guys overlook all of the other articles that Engadget posts daily and focus in on the Apple ones shows your deep hatred.
I don't understand. Posting things about Apple doesn't cut down on the number of other posts they can do for the day. They don't have a limited number of posts.
Shut the fuck up and if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.

3G iPhone...? Its supposed to ship on the 11th of July !
ashwinkn @ Jul 10th 2008 10:32AM
Half way around the world, the retailers may already have it stocked.
BigBloke @ Jul 10th 2008 10:32AM
There are other places in the world other than the US you know.
Where have you been the last few days, under a rock? Geeze....
Lance @ Jul 10th 2008 10:34AM
Time zones - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_zone
Rick @ Jul 10th 2008 10:37AM
It is already July 11th in NZ.
Daza @ Jul 10th 2008 10:55AM
It's amazing to see how many American's don't think there are other places than well, the USA. I love America but a lot of people seem to lack cultural or global awareness. It's a huge country but there are things like time zones, different currencies that also call theirs the dollar, cars that drive on the 'wrong' side of the road, cars with wheels on the 'wrong' side, etc. Oh, we also get the Internet too, fancy that!
Rand @ Jul 10th 2008 11:07AM
@daza and @BigBloke - with a little effort you could find out that Jash Sayani is in India. So while normally you would be correct about our American ego-centricity, in this case you're off the mark.
John @ Jul 10th 2008 11:12AM
Yes, because ethnocentrism is only prevalent in the United States.
John @ Jul 10th 2008 11:14AM
Also, the George W Bush vocabulary award goes to Rand for his creation of "American ego-centricity."
Egocentrism != Ethnocentrism.
Rand @ Jul 10th 2008 11:20AM
@John: I actually did mean to use the word "ego" (as in all about us, or if it isn't about us its crap), but I will accept your GW Bush Vocabulary Award and proudly display it on my bookshelf next to my World's Worst Bowler award and a potato I found that looks like Abraham Lincoln. ;-)
BigBloke @ Jul 10th 2008 11:22AM
@Rand
Then it makes it even worse, since according to the timestamp when he posted, he was approx. 3 hrs before midnight. NZ is only 51/2hrs ahead of India.
Like I said, under a rock ;-)
Marques @ Jul 10th 2008 11:51AM
@ Daza
It's also amazing how many people say "Americans" when referring to people from the United States. Just incase it's new to you...the Americas are two continents with many countries, who are all technically "American." So please clarify what you mean by "American" when making such a large generalization. Thanks
ddub @ Jul 10th 2008 1:10PM
@Marques
I agree with you, we're not the only American's. The problem is, what do people living in the US call themselves. United States of Americans? I'm not sure but, I have broken the habit of saying that I live in America when I really mean the US.
Benson @ Jul 10th 2008 2:11PM
Well, being one of those states-rights sorta hailers-from-these-United-States-of-America, I call myself a Hoosier. But I sometimes use "Yankee" when in an especially inclusive mood, and I've been known to answer to "Damn Yank"... I'll let you guess what answer, though.
Marques @ Jul 10th 2008 2:12PM
@DDUB
I call myself a US-American.
John @ Jul 10th 2008 2:38PM
A few of you above me are idiots. No one from Mexico, Canada, Brazil, Chile, or Venezuela, to name a few countries in the Americas, call themselves Americans. In fact, people from these countries call people who live in the United States Americans, as well. Spanish has the word "estadounidense" for people from the United States, but "americano/a" is used waaaaay more. It's just common nomenclature, not an expression of the United States' dominance.

Hey in halo does the warthog have the steering wheel on the other side if you bought the game in England?
neofolklore @ Jul 11th 2008 8:42AM
Everything in england is backwards as a matter of fact, due to the electric frequency computers render everything in reverse so therefore game companies compensate by flipping the screen. Also , in first person shooters such as Halo, the game controller is automatically configured to Southpaw.
Rick @ Jul 10th 2008 10:36AM
I'd prefer to see a Sledge-O-Matic tear-down of the 3G iPhone.

Damn, the world must be coming to an end. The useless and overpriced IPhone comes riding on the clouds to cast judgment on the poor folks who have failed to see the light. Separating the Apple saints from the sinners, Apple declares it's 1,000 year rein on earth. What a crock. Once again we have to put up with Apple's grand marketing scam; and sadly, Engadget is playing right along. Come on guys and gals, give your readers a little balance here, please. (Ducks my head to avoid the lightning strike coming my way).

Useless? Far from it. Overpriced? What phone isn't?
Is the iPhone perfect? Is it a God? NO. It's not.
But, gee - how many have attempted to imitate it? People want this phone, they want the touchscreen capabilities, they want the screen size, they want the storage size, they want the full browsing capabilities.
However, yes - not everyone bows down before the iPhone.
