I think realistically only the inside and rim need to be black in respect to reflections. Most consumer cameras are silver too nowadays and I bet the pro cameras are black to make them look classic to cater to expectations rather than real practical reasons.

You don't normally point that at your camera do you? If you do you might want to google how to set up lighting.
