Creative Zen X-Fi gets US pricing details
Creative's got a good thing going with the multifaceted Zen X-Fi -- at least on paper -- and we're quite thrilled to see it already hitting the websites of US e-tailers. Announced earlier this week in Singapore, the well-equipped PMP should be available soon (no specific ship date is mentioned) in 8GB ($149.99), 16GB ($199.99) and 32GB ($279.99) models. Interestingly, the 8GB iteration doesn't seem to include built-in WiFi based on the cryptic header over at Buy.com, but we suspect we'll have to wait things out a bit longer before jumping to too many conclusions.

Let's hope we get vaguely sensible prices here in England... £165 for 32GB... Please?
Shinigami @ Jul 11th 2008 8:19PM
Seems like a good price to me.
Thanks, Creative!

I dont get it does that thing that looks taped in come out of this dock thing?
gad get @ Jul 11th 2008 8:44PM
What are you talking about?
scott @ Jul 11th 2008 9:13PM
english mothafucka! do you speak it?!
derX @ Jul 12th 2008 3:32AM
I read what you wrote as:
"I don't get it. Does that thing that looks taped in [ie, the mp3 player] come out of this dock thing?"
To me, it appears that the "dock thing" is the packaging. I'm pretty the mp3 player is just the metallic part, the rest, as aforementioned, appears to just be packaging. If not, it'd be like walking around with a damn ad.

Hurray!
One more X-Fi product for the Creative "X-Fi No-Product Support or Customer Service Suite(TM)."

Bitter much?
Brad @ Jul 11th 2008 8:39PM
If you click open the 8GB page, it shows that it has Internet.
Hellios @ Jul 11th 2008 9:00PM
That 32gb is extremely cheap, it's just barely more expensive than competitive 80gb HDD based players yet it offers so much more in features.
If I lived in an eternal hotspot I'd definitely buy one of these.
Wwhat @ Jul 13th 2008 11:15AM
It's using creative firmware.. I'm just saying.
HalfJoey @ Jul 11th 2008 9:06PM
Nice prices, but i think im going to wait to see what is offered by other companies. It will be a cold day in hell before the 2nd gen iPod Touch is that price. :\
grull27 @ Jul 11th 2008 9:09PM
Great deal!
len @ Jul 11th 2008 9:17PM
It's about time a major PMP manufacturer passed on the low cost of storage to it's consumers. Unlike the other guy (cough..Apple..cough)
Bravo Creative!

Sandisk and Creative have both been completely out-pricing Apple for a long time. Heck, almost everyone has: Archos, iriver, Sony, Samsung, RCA (blech!).... Need I go on? iPods are overpriced to take advantage of people being trapped in the iPod/iTunes universe. Meanwhile, they consistently give us middle-of-the-pack or worse sound quality (sometimes rated among the worst, depending on what reviews you read).
I am never going to buy an iPod unless I have no other reasonable alternative, if for no other reason than to fight back against a company that seems to be trying to give Microsoft a run for its money in terms of being an evil tech empire. And yet Apple has one of the best company images in the world, next to Google. Go figure. Talk about an effective marketing machine.

Bring on the flaming! Steffen Jobbs? Clak?

So this is what the new Zune (Novemberish) will look like. That's if the boyz in Redmond can get their multitouch ripoff, er I mean Surface derivative software rready.
wuwtk @ Jul 11th 2008 10:39PM
huh?
Wormbolt @ Jul 11th 2008 10:41PM
Could you re-state that in the language of coherence?
Danger @ Jul 11th 2008 11:25PM
If I understood that, does that make me a Microsoft fanboy?...
I hope not =/
Abuzar Baloach @ Jul 12th 2008 1:13AM
Yes, because giving people what they want is so bad. All my friends that have iPod Touches say they would get a Touchscreen Zune if it was available. I guess Microsoft should listen to you instead and not make it.
ptj @ Jul 11th 2008 11:29PM
it has already been confirmed on the Singapore site that 8gb will not have wifi
XFi @ Jul 11th 2008 11:44PM
It's X-Fi... I always wanted to enjoy movies and MP3 with great audio.
eeltauy @ Jul 12th 2008 4:19AM
good. but can I buy this in fucking Iran... I don't think so :-(
Almadi @ Jul 12th 2008 7:12AM
OK, what the heck are those corner buttons in the 9 button grid for?
The current zen only has up, down, left, right, and center click points.
gad get @ Jul 12th 2008 7:39AM
Scrolling diagonally. Pretty innovative, huh?
Varuna @ Jul 12th 2008 8:33AM
well, those corner buttons all together forms the T9 system of texting. which is to be used in Messenger for Chatting.. also for various text inputs..
so yey!

Bought it two days ago in Singapore. Must say I'm a bit dissapointed. I'll probably sell it and get something else..
Schfelzerberg @ Jul 12th 2008 9:16AM
Right Kris, right... How could you have bought it when it's not even out yet?
If this thing can actually pump out sound as good as their X-Fi sound cards, I'd purchase it even if I cost as much as an iPod Touch. I doubt it though, but still. These are carrying the 'X-Fi' name. They must be good!
freakmarket @ Jul 12th 2008 6:23PM
it would be cool if the X-Fi's release pushed down the regular Zen's price sticker ...
Sheila @ Jul 12th 2008 9:40PM
Wish it had Bluetooth.
