iPhone Dev Team officially Pwns firmware 2.0 on video
You saw this coming right? With barely even 24 hours of 2.0 in our life, the Dev Team has once again cracked the case wide open. They've got a video of all the action -- featuring the upcoming PwnageTool 2.0 -- that just went live on their site, so hit the read link and check it out for yourself... you won't be disappointed.
Update: It's looking like the video isn't functioning right now -- we're looking for a mirror and will let you know when we find it.
Update 2: Video is up after the break! Just do it.

nope
Yes. If you have $599. (for the 8gb)
If you got lucky this morning it was, I understand they had to send some people home without activating because of the servers being down.
Let me know how to pwn AT&T or Apple into selling me an iPhone without activating it in store so I don't have to sign 2 years of my life to AT&T.
Why in the hell does it have multi-continent 3G support when they ball-and-chain you to AT&T?!?
Congratulations! You've been classified as:
A COMPLETE IDIOT
Do it again and the title stays with you... forever!
It may look as if I'm mad, but I'm not. At least, not that I know of. I think. Maybe.
This "pwnage" is meaningless, since you have to activate in-store anyway. And if you cancel your contract, you have to return your phone.
So there's no way around having to sign an AT&T contract if you want to buy an iPhone in America. Even the Dev Team can't fix that problem.
Actually, this is huge if you want to use your iPhone outside the US without paying AT&T's roaming fees by buying a prepaid SIM from a local carrier. I do this every time I go abroad.
Yeah, this could be true for 3G users, but what about the lucky first gen iPhone users that upgraded to 2.0? This can still be beneficial to them. Stop being so angry.
No way! You have to return your phone?!?! Don't they just charge you for breaking the contract?
Hey everyone, I jailbroke the new iphone 2.0 software on release day...
Don't believe, watch this video I made of a program that is unavailable, and shows nothing more then me selecting stuff within a program...
Go me.
I know someone will help me for asking this. But what in the hell does PWNAGE mean?
See wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pwned
It's an acronym:
People
Want
No
Assholes
Going to
Engadget
Um, why did you tag this "Braking" and "BrakingNews"? Did the Dev Team develop iPhone anti-lock brakes or something?
Stupid ginger, I HATE YOUR FACE.
What i did to your mom, is the perfect definition of pwnage .... I'm joking... but in the iPhone term of pwnage it closely resembles the words, I crack that Sh*T, or you just say the phone is OWNED!! with the word ouch at the end......
Looks like only a couple people actually watched this video, and the author of the post isn't included in that.
** Nothing about this video does anything related to iPhone 2.0 software.
** The "upgrade" fails anyway. If you watch to the end, it's a complete failure.
Maybe people ought to read/watch the material being referenced before making postings like this. This was a total waste of time; I want my 5 minutes back.
they have released a video of a jailbroken 2.0 with appstore AND cydia running on it:

I thought you could buy the phone outright for like $599 or something...i remeber reading it here or on BGR
....LOL!
I got the joke!
wow, i guess no one stayed long enough to see the credits
Hey, does anyone know if its possible to backup the files already in the phone!? I have a first gen and i wouldnt like to lose the SMS etc.
Yeah, get Syphone and back that shit up!
I love the song Dev Team chose for the video... Here's the original video of the song...

Jail breaking and unlocking doesn't matter to Apple anymore. It's a non-issue.
For iPhone v1.0, Apple sold the device to AT&T (and everyone else) at a discount, and in turn Apple took a cut of the subscription revenue to make up the difference. This was all to improve the experience of buying an iPhone (buy at the Apple Store, activate at home, etc.). But if someone buys an iPhone at the discounted price, unlocks it and uses it on another network, Apple loses money, and apparently there are hundreds of thousands of unlocked iPhones in operation around the world, all sold at a loss to Apple.
For iPhone v2.0 Apple uses the traditional cell phone model (which makes for a much lousier purchase experience) They sell to AT&T for FULL price, AT&T is then responsible for subsidizing the consumer price and recouping the difference with the contract. As a result, you simply cannot get an iPhone 3G without selling your soul to AT&T first. If the iPhone is unlocked after that point it really makes no difference (to Apple, at least).
It will be interesting when 2.0 is jailbroken. People will copy apps from the app store off their phones, and they will be put on Installer repos. Then all apps will be free. App store profits = fail.
Joshua Topolsky, this post's "BreakingNews" tag is misspelled. ("Braking")
Just thought you might wanna fix it so it comes up with all the other Breaking News.
Feel free to delete this once it's been fixed.
Whoops, someone already mentioned it. My bad.
I don't think this will have as much of an impact as some people say.
1; I have no confirmation of this, but i THINK that the ppl who was sent home without activated phones won nothing; I don't think the process is as you yanks are used to. Here in Ireland, for example, the first gen iPhones were sold only in O2 stores and Carphone Warehouse, also pretty big retailer. They were not sold with a sim in-box, but you had to buy one with the phone. So, in order to even get a phone you signed and activated a plan straight up. You then went home and still had to activate the phone with an O2 sim in it. Some of my mates did that with an O2 pay-as-you go card, but there is not really much point in that - you can not get around the plan as it is already activated.
2; I think there is quite a lot of security around the apps in the store. Even if there is not, and they end up in the installer, how many people of all the millions of customers do you think, realistically does this?
It does infringe copyright, your warranty etc. People don't like that. Furthermore, the same way as it has been hard finding NES roms on a repo, it will be way harder to find these - Apple will not hesitate to hunt them down.
In a way it is like the ITMS. it is very possible, and very easy to get music illegally, that is not even DRM-infested. Still, business is good for Apple. Why shouldn't this be?
3; It is uncertain when this comes. As much as i trust the dev teams efforts, the video does not show any iphone 2.0 action. Only some fiddling around withvarious things you can do to 1.1.4. I must admit that that looks very sweet, and i look forward to playing with that when 2.0 is woriking, but at the moment i see no reason to believe they have it working. They may be close, but there is not proof in this video except for the icons.
And when is it actually going to release........???
iPhone Dev Team are legends
Just updated my 1.1.4 to 2.0 (stupid me). was not even able to restore the old 1.1.4 again. Now I use my old Sony Ericsson until the jailbreak is out ;-(....I'ts really hard to go back to these stoneage mobiles.
Really hope it is released soon. please please please
You can buy a simlock free 8GB iPhone in Belgium for 525 EURO and a 16GB for 625 EURO or something. It is forbidden by law to bundle phones with contracts in Belgium. For Europeans, that is a pretty good deal. Obviously, for US citizens, it becomes rather expensive. But it is possible.
no offense, but why would people help you buy your own iPhone...we all have to spend the money ourselves, you can too. No need to beg other people to give you their hard earned money
