iPhone 2.0 and iPod touch 2.0 released officially
Listen up children, we've got a story to tell. It's scary and exciting and might just turn your iPod touch to fairy dust if you're not careful. The 2.0 firmware is reportedly leaked (and thus cash-free) to those of you daring enough to try. We've been contacted by a dozen netizens who claim to confirm the authenticity. However, at least one tipster reports their iPod touch getting "bricked doing it from pc but mac restore worked fine." What's more, we can't find the file in Apple's XML. Still, most say it "works like a dream," installing goodies from the App Store without problems. While the original download source is now 404, we're sure you can figure out other ways of locating "iPod1,1_2.0_5A345_Restore.ipsw." Ready, go. One more pic after the break.
Update: 2.0 for iPod touch now officially released. You can purchase now for $9.95... er, when the link starts working. [warning: iTunes link]
Update 2: iPhone 2.0 now official as well. Looks like it's the same 5A347 build we all grabbed yesterday with a filename of iPhone1,1_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw -- the 1,1 looks new, though, so perhaps this version is a bit less cranky. Stay tuned.
Update 3: And, it's gone again. Now iTunes is telling us that our 1.1.4 version is "the current version." Fun!
Update 4: Well what do you know. 2.0 for iPhone is back up via iTunes. Is this a rollercoaster or what?
Update 5: Looks like the activation servers are on the fritz, so if you updated your iPhone you can't activate it with 2.0 just yet, leaving you with a locked iPhone. Even more fun!
Update 6: At least for us, activation is back up and running after iTunes sat in limbo for a good 30 minutes. So be patient, people. Looks like iTunes activation is working but is taking quite some time.

The update button now recognizes the iPod touch's 2.0 update, however the software seems to still be missing from the iTunes store.... WHY, APPLE, WHY?
Well apple nz have updated there site
http://www.apple.com/nz/ipodtouch/appstore/
but it still anit working :(
You would think APPLE could send everyone signed up with an online account an Email stating simply when the application will be ready or that they will keep us posted instead of leaving it up to the Layman's to spend hours trying to figure out why they cant download a software upgrade. Still U Gotta Love Apple.
ZOMG guys i've been away for like 5 hours so i haven't really been able to tell anyone yet, but i finally found the right link, it's somewhere here in the comments. although it's leaked, it's been working great so far. i'm controlling itunes on my ipod right now ;)
It saying 2.0 but just learn more nothing on purchasing it. :-(
NOW IT SAYS THAT 1.1.4 is the current firmware! ARG!!!!
Back to 1.1.4 is current. Awesome, just awesome.

This is one should work too. The update installed perfectly. Took about 10 minutes then it restored all of the my data. Looks great.
this is just wonderful... thanks Apple. i went to bed thinking it would all be ok in the morning... that was 10 hours ago!!!!!!!!! WTF are they doing? a huge launch like this and they manage to be completely disorganised and fuck the whole thing up?
Who the Fuck is in control here? this should have been out days ago!
(Oh and I'm whingeing on behalf of Ipod Touch users NOT IPHONERS!!! you whiney pricks don't have to PAY for this stupid thing!)
I don't know what you guys think, but I think it is pretty obvious that Apple will not allow IPod Touch users to get this update until the IPhone activation fiasco settles down a bit. I'm guessing it could be another day or two until they allow us to update.
heh... I've been doing the same thing as everyone here - click update/fail/retry over and over... then iTunes crashed at some point, and I lost all the Apps I PAID for in the last update. I tried a restore, but the apps (mail, maps etc) are all gone:( gg apple
I've been trying this since 8:00am EST which is when it was first launched...it is not almost 10:00pm EST. It just started recognizing there was an update for me(in NJ) but still nothing. How much longer can apple make us wait, us being Touch users.
I have been trying for hours....sometimes 2.0 ---LEARN MORE, but then just back to 1.4 is current and back and forth and back and forth and back and forth.
NOTHING>>>>>WTF???????????????????????????
Maybe this is just a guess or a hope but my thing has said update to 2.0 for a while now, it has not switched back to 1.1.4, and it isnt saying error or anything its just not updating. So maybe just maybe apple is getting ready to put it back online?
APPLE SUCKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
erm
i'm been on the computer on and off since 12 pm est
and its almost 11pm
on my itunes it says 2.0 is the latest software update
but you when you click update all it says is learn more and cancel
so i clicked learn more
then it made me wait for about 10 seconds then it says
error
itunes store is currently unavailable
SERIOUSLY
i am getting so pissed off at apple/itunes.
I'm in USA and I still can't get the "Touch" update
I'm in USA and I still can't get the "Touch" update. I have been trying since 6am
This should tell us all something about Xserve. It's obviously not reliable in high-load circumstances. Way to go Steve.
ahem
no one in the us is getting the update for itouch
i've been trying since 12 pm
thats why i've been on the fucking computer so long.
And yet another apple waiting game......what a shocker
Apple have made a big mistake in the way they described and sold their Applications, they never mentioned that applications require ipod touch users to BUY the software update, therefore if they make ipod touch users pay for the software update they will be engaging in deceptive conduct, something that is not looked on lightly here in Australia. I will be informing ACCC about this conduct, it may lead to every ipod touch user receiving a credit for the purchased software or for the software update to be released for free. The reason that the ipod touch software has not been released is probably because the apple legal team has to look into this very serious mistake that apple has made.
I urge every ipod touch user to contact their eqivalant of the ACCC in their country to report Apple on this deceptive conduct.
ummmmm...... are you blind? have you not read the apple sites??? first it says that you have to buy the iphone 2.0 software if you own a touch. it said this before the app store even opened. then on every app in the store it says requires iphone 2.0 software update.
do some research before you put shit like that up here.
there is NO WAY anyone will get it for free legally.
The apple site is totally different to the app store, it's still deceptive conduct. Why don't you do some research, try studying law maybe.
It should say on the application description that ipod touch users have to pay for the software update, it does not, therefore it's deceptive conduct.
You are too funny... They (Apple) have been telling us, ipod touch users, for a while now that we need to pay to update. To get the apps we need to update the firmware. So, where's the deception?
I think you are angry with the current circumstances and taking it out on the pricing of the 2.0 update. Nice try.
And another thing:
on the app pages it say:
compatible with iphone and ipod touch
requires iphone 2.0 software update
This is deceptive in that it would lead the common person to assume that these apps are compatible with the ipod touch, but iphones (only) need the 2.0 software update (it does not say that it requires ipod touch 2.0 software)
i just bought it the floodgate is open!!! 9:25 P.M. U.S. Pacific Time
can't wait to play monkey ball =P
I JUST FUCKING GOT IT
FOR ITOUCH
finnally
at 12:30 am though
YES, I GOT IT!
FINALY ITS FREAKN OUT!
THANK U APPLE!!!!!!!!!
Guys don't worry today or tomorrow will be ours day just let be patient. :-)
Joy now its taking like 10 minutes to restore the software :P
Finally started downloading my iPod Touch 2.0 Firmware...
I got up from my computer, went to make something to eat, and when I came back the damn thing stalled at 100%
~____~
If you go to Settings, General, About
what is the 2.0 build version?
First of all, i've been reading this post *all* day because honestly, i had nothing better to do. But, the only thing that pissed me off more than Apple's little fuck-up was "Phil" up there ^^^ the law guy. Mainly because he keeps telling others to do research... if you look right here, the iPod Touch's opening page, scroll to the bottom... there's your disclaimer right there buddy. "Access to the App Store requires the iPhone 2.0 Software Update for iPod touch, sold separately. Some applications are not available in all areas. Application availability and pricing are subject to change." And don't even counter with "well, well, it says 'iPhone 2.0 Software'" because it says FOR IPOD TOUCH. And I'm pretty sure that someone who owns an iPod Touch, having spent their good money to get the device, would take the time to read the last 3 words of that sentence unlike you. Anyway, if I were you, I wouldn't try that lawsuit because you will most definitely lose.... face it buddy. I'm going to bed... It's been a LONG ASS DAY!!!
um i need to know if i put the update on my ipod will i loose all my songs??????? please tell me before its too late!!!
iTunes and iPods are so bloody difficult!!!
HELPxx
