forthcoming PS3 price drop before, but we're inclined to believe Mr. Nobuyuki Oneda on this one. The aforesaid chief financial officer told a forum in Singapore that "this year, [Sony's] strategy is not to sell more quantity for PS3 but to concentrate on profitability." He outrightly added that Sony's "plan is not to reduce the price." Yeah, we all know the Xbox 360 will be getting
a little easier on the wallet, but with the public's newfound interest in the PlayStation 3's Blu-ray abilities, we too see no reason for Sony to take an even bigger hit. After all, this console is still widely regarded as the
best deal going for those interested in a Blu-ray deck, and we don't see that changing in the very near term.
Update: In somewhat unrelated news, Sony will be
fixing consoles bricked by firmware update 2.40 for free.

sony says there will be NO price drop for the bs3… man they are killing the hd market!!!! hd players would have been under 200.00 now if hd-dvd was still alive… sony is getting greedy trying to get people to buy the ps3 to get blue ray so they can say they sold more game systems but over half got it just for the blu-ray. If someone comes out with a 199 blue ray stand alone player. No one would buy ps3’s anymore. Whoever does that will sell blue rays like hot cakes!!! The BluRay technology is primarily owned by Sony, so you won't see that this year. Any other companies that want to sell BD players still has to pay Sony for it, hence you will not see a sub $200 player until atleast Q4 of 2009 if you're lucky, maybe.

Why do they need to?
For Sony, they don't need to, as it's outselling the 360 is Europe by massive amounts, and in the US by a reasonable amount.
For Gamers, why should they? Sure everything would be nicer, cheaper, but the PS3 even at the current price represents a massive bargain, you are getting more bang for buck than any other consumer device around.
I can understand why Microsoft are price cutting, desperation. However you only have to look at the last European 360 price cut (about 3 months back), which only provided a 2 week upwards blip in the otherwise sliding 360 sales.

Every platform in existence has exclusives and you can't own them all. There's plenty of stuff on other platforms (360, Wii, PSP, PS2, PC) to keep people busy that the PS3 won't be "must buy" in any way shape or form.
Console crusading is pointless. I don't know why people put such personal stakes in soulless corporations that could give two shits about you.
The fact of the matter is, it's up to Sony to sell the thing to me and I'm not spending $400 on a movie player. I'm also not spending $400 on a console where I can count the number of compelling exclusives on a single hand. This is the reality of the situation right now. If the PS3 eventually comes up with a lot of first rate exclusives, then things will change. If the PS3 comes down in price, then things will change. But, things WILL have to change in some shape or form to get one in my house.
And, like I said, other things can change to make it a LESS compelling purchase. If I get blu-ray movie playback though another means, the PS3 loses a LOT of it's value and must come down in price even further before I'll be walking out of a store with one.
And yet you seem to enjoy your rant about a specific console yourself.
The FACT of the matter is, 400 dollars for each of these separate things is bit much, but if you have invested in a new TV adding 400 for a media player with the option of storing your music, showing off some photos on that nice new TV of yours, a (somewhat limited) internet browsing capable unit and a bluray player + games console all into one is actually a pretty sweet deal if you ask me. Or you could purchase a few of these things separatey and pay more.. but whatever takes your fancy.
My x360 died. it RROD. so I took its RROD and chucked it in the cupboard. I have a PS3 now and I use it for games and everything else it can do. Stop your whingeing and if you dont like it, dont buy it, or read about it. I dont think SONY would really give a shit.

No it's just got more GOOD games....
Most of 360's library are turds.. (not as bad as Wii's shovelware), PS3 titles are consistently better.
Whenever I read reviews online (G4tv.com, Gamespot, IGN, etc.) for games that are available on both consoles, reviewers tend to indicate that the games are practically identitcal. Any consumer who has both with probably shell out for the 360 version if any DLCs or Xbox Live capabilities are any factor. If games are the profitability for ANY console company, and Sony keeps harking on the fact they're trying to get to profitability with the PS3; where do you think the problem is?
Surely Sony cant afford to lose anymore money on this lame piece of technology.
I got a 60GB PS3 11 months ago FREE with phone contract because it was supposed to be SOOOOO awesome, but if it wasn't for Metal Gear Solid 4 being so good I would have sold this junk long ago.
Until Killzone 2 & the full version of Gran Turismo 5 come out forget PS3.
An get yourself a REAL games machine... buy a Sega Dreamcast :)
