Cat Faucet solves elusive cat drinking from sink issue, we sigh in relief
Cats like to drink from everywhere but the places they're supposed to drink from, and for that they offer no excuses, reasons, and just walk away, tails in the air. This independent spirit, though, means that we're often stuck turning faucets on and off for thirsty felines because heaven forbid they drink from a dish. One crafty soul has solved this gripping conundrum with an IR detector, valves, some plastic tubing, and a whole lot of moxie. The detector can even suss out if the subject is human or feline in order to keep the faucet from triggering every time someone walks by. Our test subjects won't comment on the new tech, but they've stopped complaining and have become extremely athletic and hydrated super-cats of doom. Still reading? My cat drank more milk than water.
I notice your phrase is in the past tense.
The cat died from that.
Sorry, that was insensitive.
Still!
There goes the water bill! lol At first in the video the cats like "WTF, water on!"
I love how the water just keeps running.
Just hope noone leaves the plug in the sink and the kitty makes a flood happen
Did you know that all Calico cats (like in the picture) are female?
Actually, X-inactivation happens in males, too. It's just extremely rare. So damn close to "always female", but not "always."

Your cat has been cut in two!!!!
You're by no means the first
I thought "Cheesing" was against the law?
My cat is too posh to drink from a bowl, he has to have a glass(plastic picnic one!) or better still demands a running tap. I think this is a great idea, when will it be on the market?
You guys are such hicks! MY cat drinks from a diamond-studded wine glass. She also eats her dinner out of the holy grail. That cat from the fancy feast commercial has nothing on mine!
"She also eats her dinner out of the holy grail."
LoL!
i wonder if that hidden tap faucet (aka. slit in the wall) would work on cats...
http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/02/hidden-tap-faucet-flows-from-left-to-right-as-you-go-from-dirty/
lmfao @ a cat chasing after that ... or learning the hard way where to stand to get cold water.
Getting water into felines is not the problem....it's dealing with the urine/cat box/litter on the back end. Somebody come up with a simple, reliable fix for that (that doesn't require getting rid of the cats) and I'll spend some _bucks_.
Is it just me .. or does that cat have 6 toes.
Holy Chr*st!
My cat has 6 toes, its a strange feature of New England cats. I had never heard of such a thing until I moved here. Sailors back in the day used to keep them on ships originating from England because they thought they were better mousers and were good luck. Its weird at first but you get used to it, my cat looks like he's wearing a mitten.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polydactyl_cat
Polydactylism (extra digits) is not uncommon in Calico cats. It has something to do with the way X chromosome works.
Dude is going to be rich....
It's not the sink for our cat, she likes the toilet. Must be the coldness. She has fallen in once but that did not deter her.
Constant running water is best for cats. Something about stagnant water isnt good for them
Hah, I love how the cat steps into the sink, and looks at the spout, looks at the drain, spout, drain, THEN the water comes on.
My cat drinks from the faucet as well and as crazy as it sounds I might just get this!
(Inserts a random lolcat line about cats and sinks)
There was a time when my cat had his water from a water bowl....but their was also a time when he ate only dry cat food but since he got old....he's now having wet(can) cat food and he started to drink out of the tub which is annoying because i got to make sure its always running a bit....even though I bought him one of those water bowls that use gravity to refill it (or make sure it doesn't over flow) so he has more water but he doesn't use it.....
Cats....can be trained...but really are far more independent than other pets.....
HAHAHAHA I can't stop laughing! lol this is exactly what my cat does!!
Great article!!!
Now THAT will get your pussy wet.
If they really want to make it entertaining, the faucet would explode at full power exactly five seconds after the kitty puts his face into it. Watch the pussycat's reaction after that one. Hee hee.
Meanie. I'm telling.
I miss the days when i had a cat to turn on the water for =(. Then someone would yell that the water was still on =(. I miss having a kitty.
solving the issue, huh? looks like it encourages the issue, if anything.
idea-bot 9000
I tried forcing my cat to drink from the bowl, and she just stopped drinking water. I got one of those recycling bowls. So she started drinking from the toilet if I left the seat up, or still not drinking. She's the most stubborn cat I've ever known, and I'm pretty sure she'd kill herself before she relented. (Might explain why I found her emaciated on my door step in the first place.) So I give up. Poor cat's suffered enough, she can have a little sink water a couple times a day. If you can't beat them, you might as well invent a device to save on your water bill.
Where can i get a couple of these????!!!
:)
