Ainol introduces display-dominated V3000 PMP
Some serious time has passed since Ainol rolled out its abominable V1000, and while we reckon the V2000 was lost somewhere in the mix, the V3000 is pretty enough to note -- if but for a moment. Details are pretty slim on this one, but we are told that the widescreen unit packs an expansive 4.3-inch LTPS display with an 800 x 480 native resolution. Seriously though, you aren't about to fly to China to claim one of these as your own, so just be satisfied with seeing Spidey behind all sorts of weirdly applied reflections.

I wonder if she likes Ainol...
PiperSon @ Jul 15th 2008 2:36PM
How do you pronounce the name of this company???
Lowest Ranked @ Jul 15th 2008 3:20PM
Anal.
Jon @ Jul 15th 2008 7:09PM
Their website is just awesome... http://www.ainol.com/
Particularly their tagline: "Enjoy life. Enjoy Ainol."
Markus @ Jul 15th 2008 2:40PM
"Do you like Ainol?"
DarkLight @ Jul 15th 2008 2:43PM
Dude, that's not a weirdly applied reflection...
It's the almost-transparent playback control bar
jake @ Jul 15th 2008 2:44PM
"ainol" hahahahahaha!
Dylan @ Jul 15th 2008 2:54PM
I think they were talking about the perfectly diagonal reflection, rather than the playback controls.
Oh and the V2000? ever tried resurching your stories a little engadget, y'know, like the first like on google?

Ainol doesn't sound too bad. I suppose I might be tempted to give it a try...

"Ainol doesn't sound too bad."
I've been expecting for months to hear my girlfriend say that...

What's with all these Chinese companies with names that neither Chinese nor Western people can pronounce?
And um, cool device.
ybd @ Jul 15th 2008 5:37PM
This is pretty much exactly what I've been waiting for, ever since the iPhone made PMP makers shove a touchscreen on everything.
If this has one of those awesomely cheap China pricetags on it I just might get it - otherwise I'll wait for something similar from a more reputable company.

What's with the resolution? I know higher numbers are often regarded as good times, but who the heck is going to rip a movie at that resolution to play on a 4.3" display?
Greg @ Jul 15th 2008 6:48PM
I rip movies at 240 x 400 for my 480 x 800 4.3" Nokia N800 display. Looks great and keeps movie file size around 400 Meg. The higher res display is great for web surfing though.

If they can't even apply a reflection (it even goes over the rim...), I'm worried about what software it's running.
Unless it wasn't them, in which case, um.
Jon @ Jul 15th 2008 7:06PM
Ha! Ainol went over the rim......
......*sigh*......
Greg @ Jul 15th 2008 6:42PM
480 x 800 4.3" widescreen? My $200 Nokia N800 has that. What else does this thing do and how much?
Amerist @ Jul 15th 2008 7:02PM
Isn't the first rule of marketing to know your market? Why would they expect to sell this in the US with a name like that?
"Check out my anal vee three thousand"
"your what?"
funny-haha @ Jul 15th 2008 9:55PM
guy: "this is my anal pimp."
girl: "i bet it is."
guy: "it's got 4.3 inches."
girl: "i bet it does."

Good as reason as any to fly to china I think.
takashisenke @ Jul 16th 2008 2:06AM
"Seriously though, you aren't about to fly to China"
Coming from the team that flew to New Zealand for a phone?
