Guitar Hero: Aerosmith and Guitar Hero: World Tour to work with Rock Band instruments
Good news, plastic rockers -- Activision announced at E3 today that its upcoming Guitar Hero: World Tour game will work with Rock Band's controllers, including the drumkit, and that Guitar Hero: Aerosmith on Xbox 360 has received an update that "should" make the game compatible with Harmonix's axes. Nothing too wild on the Aerosmith tip, as the guitars should just work now (finally!), but Activision's had to do some work to make World Tour play nice: the game is designed for a five-pad drumkit, but it'll compress down to four to work with Rock Band's set. See? Friends all around. Is that so hard, guys?

GOOD!
Paul Dullford @ Jul 16th 2008 9:25PM
Great. We're seeing competitors in software actually play nice with hardware. Now if it only worked with real guitars and drums...
Jin @ Jul 16th 2008 10:48PM
wait what? I thought rock band 2 had 6 sensors (4 drums, 2 cymbals) so do the rock band cymbals just not work on guitar hero or something?
MechaDEVO @ Jul 16th 2008 11:05PM
@Jin
I think the RB2 standard kit does not come with cymbals, just the 4 pads and the cymbals would be an additional purchase. That $300 Ion set comes with everything. Anyone feel free to correct me.
dhytspam @ Jul 17th 2008 1:01AM
At the replies, It's stating compatibility with Rock Band 1 drum set.
philos.bonacci @ Jul 16th 2008 9:30PM
I don't care to much to read anything about aerosmith, but that picture is rad.
LowTeckh @ Jul 16th 2008 11:25PM
What I was thinking. Anyone know the source of this picture or who those guys are?
BuddhaBoy @ Jul 17th 2008 11:15AM

I think I remember seeing this pic on there years ago and I know I've read the movie script about ninjas on guitars there.

As a parent with all sorts of plastic instruments cluttering my damn living room, all I can say is that's about darn time something like this came about.
Note to gaming companies: I am FAR more likely to buy these types of games for the kids if all the instruments are interchangeable. A win for every body: The parents, the kids, the gaming companies. Good work.
Ken @ Jul 17th 2008 1:46PM
A win for everyone except the widget makers.
who? @ Jul 16th 2008 9:30PM
Ahhhhh! I JUST sold my Rock Band in anticipation of World Tour. I lost $80 in the deal!!
Shoot me now...
Mike @ Jul 17th 2008 10:24AM
F Guitar Hero. You chose the wrong side in the war. ROCK BAND kills it. Stick with Harmonix. They know what they're doing. Guitar Hero 3 blows. So will World Tour.
Amol @ Jul 16th 2008 9:32PM
Where is the PS3 love? =(
math is hard @ Jul 16th 2008 9:38PM
Seconded. I can't think of any good reason why they couldn't do this for the PS3.
whowhatme @ Jul 16th 2008 10:51PM
activision to ps3 owners: *finger*
they're just losing themselves $$$ (mine, at least) because I refuse to buy two sets of instruments to play basically the same damn game.
Arvind Ganesh @ Jul 17th 2008 12:29AM
Yes, what about us PS3 players?!
Brian @ Jul 16th 2008 10:05PM
Wait one minute. Activision prevented Harmonix from putting a patch on the PS3 that would have made GH3 axes work on Rock Band. The patch was set to go live before Activision pulled the plug wanting $$$.
Reepa @ Jul 17th 2008 5:25AM
Indeed, if I recall correctly, Harmonix use an open standard in their controllers, so Activision dont need their permission to add updates to the guitar hero franchise.
The other way around is not true and Activision refuse to accept Harmonix to use the GH controllers.
Having their cake and eating it too, methinks. Lets hope they pull their head out of their asses when Rockband 2 rolls around for all the people with a room full of GH accessories.

Best.News.Ever.
I was SO not getting Guitar Hero... until now!!!
DAY 1 PURCHASE!!!
miyagi @ Jul 16th 2008 10:18PM
That just increased my possibility of picking up WT a lot.
I wasn't going to have another set of plastic instruments cluttering up my living room. I don't think I'm alone in this and bet this is one of the factors of why Activision finally decided to play nice.
Eric @ Jul 16th 2008 10:26PM
It still means that Guitar Hero and Rock Band instruments for Wii won't be interchangable...
Unless they give you an option to use Wii Remote-based instruments or USB-based instruments, which they won't.
holycow90 @ Jul 16th 2008 10:57PM
Will Guitar Hero World tour's instruments work with Rock Band 2? I'd rather buy the touch guitar in GHWT to use in Rock Band 2, even if its just the buttons.
computer.dude.28 @ Jul 16th 2008 11:03PM
You all do know that Guitar Hero: Aerosmith worked with the Rock Band guitar since its launch, right?
boisro @ Jul 17th 2008 12:09AM
It didn't work for everybody. I have seen numerous complaints from people who couldn't get their Rock Band guitars to work with GHA.
Joey Schenning @ Jul 16th 2008 11:30PM
But they still can't come out with a patch for GH3? I'm kinda digging the RB guitar a little more now that I've gotten to know it.
Chris @ Jul 17th 2008 1:15AM
Now if I could only figure out how to not suck using the rock band guitar..........I'm great with any GH guitar but there's just something about the Rock band one that makes me terrible with it.
ex @ Jul 17th 2008 1:39AM
Awesome picture- that's from one of my favorite ninja movies growing up!
REVENGE OF THE NINJA (1983).
The ninja on the right is Shô Kosugi-
kick ass!
krymson @ Jul 17th 2008 2:32AM
I dont know what this picture has to do with this story, but kudos, I love it.
Andy Anonymous @ Jul 17th 2008 4:31AM
Utterly fantastic news. I'll definitely be picking up the game-only version of GH:WT now that I'll be able to use my RB guitar with it.
Danakin @ Jul 17th 2008 9:00AM
cool news...I'm slightly more intrigued by the ninja's guitar battle though
Unknown @ Jul 17th 2008 9:56AM
Some one need to make a demotivational poster out of the picture
NINJAS WITH GUITARS...You will never be this cool...loser
Mike @ Jul 17th 2008 10:44AM
