Actually .. here in New Zealand you can buy an iPhone 3G without a contract ..
its expensive but cheaper option than the outrageous Vodarape charges..
so its possible that some 3G iPhone may find their way from here or other "free market countries" to the US and other markets where the thinking is screw the consumer. (we also get screwed just via data charges rather than locked into long-term contracts)
