Voodoo's Envy 133 gets handled by Maximum PC
The folks over at Maximum PC have gotten themselves a chance to go face-to-face (and tongue-to-laptop) with Voodoo's newest show-off -- the Envy 133 -- and they've shared with the rest of the world. There's not much to say based on these pictures, save that they clearly were stoked to be getting this close to the sexed-up excuse for maxing out a credit card. If you hit the read link, you'll catch a slew of pictures, some size comparisons with a MacBook Pro, and first impressions of what Voodoo's instant-on OS looks and feels like. What are you waiting for? Get!

I like that solid slab look.
I admit, it looks great.
I was considering it for a time, but the placement of the power key really does bother me. It's placed WITHIN the keyboard, directly above the backspace key.
Now, though I would assume they've planned for scenarios where this could cause problems, if not it may be quite a turn off (Pun!) to some.
The power key is placed to flow with the design of the laptop.
To turn the system off with the power button you must hold the laptop for a few seconds. So to "accidentally" hit it and turn the system off should not happen.
There is also a setting in Windows when you press the power button to 'When I press the power button' with the options of: Do nothing, Standby, Shut Down, and Ask me what to do.
Control Panel>Power Options>Advanced Tab
now that's how you make a laptop. if macbook pros didn't exist that is the computer i would be using.
@chris
I agree. I don't want to get into a PC vs. Mac debate, but I depend on a Mac and therefore a Windows laptop is not an option for me. However, I do have to say that from a purely cosmetic perspective, HP have absolutely nailed this one. I'd be happy if Apple released something that looks as good as that, and that's high praise to HP. The design team responsible should take a bow. I sincerely hope that the rest of the user experience lives up to the expectations that thing will give when it comes out of the box.
Honestly, it's living up to its name.
I didn't know a 13.3 inch envy is so big in person. Or maybe everyone at "MAXIMUM" PC is small.
You should pay attention to Marzipan more often. The laptop isn't big, it's just in the foreground!
To give a perspective, the guy on the left is plugging in the power cord.
Haha! Nice!
Its Norm
it is indeed.
so one of these laptops is larger than a bald headed man?
My God. That is one sexy piece of electronics.
Why can't they make more electronics like this?
Just keep it simple! It is cheaper to build and more appealing to buyers.
Even as an Apple fanboy, I have to say that's a good looking laptop. Almost makes me wish that I was in the market for one. Sigh....
@spass:
It doesn't work like that. Making something slim, streamlined and simple is a complicated and expensive design process.
yeah its sexy and all...but why ohh why didnt they throw in that extra 7 after the 133 ?!
Why do Apple fanboys believe they're the measuring stick of style in the consumer electronics world?
@Ignatius
because mac users have big sticks
@Chris: I'm pretty sure you've got it confused...
It's because Mac users have nothing else to measure.
Enjoy your day.
So simple, its sexy.
I'll pass on the voodoo for a box that doesn't cost $500/600 for a paintjob.
The stock option isn't a paint job. The body is carbon fiber, and it all shows.
The perspective on that photo is hilarious though, I thought it was photoshopped
wow people are really trying hard to find something to complain about... too bad the carbon fiber look of it is free..... OH you want extra shit for free?
No, I don't want it for free. I dig the carbon fiber look. I do. It's very nice. But, maybe, I might want in streight black? Or white? Or Blue? Does it really cost 500, 600 dollars to spray paint a such a small thing like a laptop? No.
While it may not cost exactly 600, then they would not make a profit, but time, labor, parts (paint) are all in the price and it is not exactly cheap paint. They do use top quality pants and make sure the system, when painted and also when not, looks the best it should be. There are many times that they paint systems and when finish will start over because there is a very very tiny problem.
That "they do use top quality pants" comment pretty much sums it all up. That in addition to paint apparently being one of the "parts" of a computer rather than simply a "material" used to change its color, I can totally see why it costs an additional $500~600 for a different colored 133.
I find it amusing that Maximum PC has one of these considering the specs this thing has. At least the price is at a maximum.
Bald-guy dongle come standard?
viagra for your e-peen not included
Wow, I just love that high quality photography studio... it looks like they are camping in the conference room of a hotel.
you get 3 guesses as to why that is.
hint: going on, this past week, in LA....
They should spend a bit less on laptops and a bit more on desks, there's a poor guy that shows up in half the photos that has to sit in the floor leaning against a wall! What sort of work enviroment is that...
wow .....I am so sexed up now
This laptop is achingly beautiful. I don't even need a laptop and I can't help but think about how I could afford to get one.
These things make Mac notebooks look ugly. Want.
Agreed. I first opened my Macbook, I was like "DUDE, THIS IS SOOOOO SEXY". This... Beats... My... Macbook.
Finally a PC manufacturer that comes out with a pleasant looking machine. Not something that looks straight out of a Michael Bay set. They are obviously taking cues from Apple in the looks department, but at this day in age who isn't.
How is this an ultraportable laptop? Either that or that is one very diminutive bald man.
The power supply with the NIC that converts a signal to WiFi is such a great idea! Take that Macbook Air!!
Might compare to the macbook air but def. not the macbook pro, the specs are apples and oranges
The guy that's holding the Envy gave it an envious lick: http://mine.icanhascheezburger.com/view.aspx?ciid=1561522
Ewww...
Yeah, it's like the black album in "Spinal Tap".
A design worthy of Apple themselves.
OS limited... Not interested.
Although this is finally a step in the right direction for PC hardware design.
It runs both Linux and MS OS. The fact that you can't (not allowed to) run OSX on is is an OSX limition and not a laptop limitation.
I *love* the illusion in that photograph! That laptop looks three feet wide!
Dammit, about 5 people made jokes about the illusion of size envolving the Envy and the bald guy before me...
Oh, how I sooo want this :)
