Windows 3.1 gets installed on Nokia's N810, looks badly out of place

yeah, you had to have an editor just to edit your shortcuts (PIF editor)...
...sorry, but I can't get nostalgic over that. At least I recognize that screen shot unlike some of these myspace birthed twirps.
You seem to be confusing Windows 3.1 with NT 3.5?
LAST (well almost)
but my sentence will ne short :
M$ WINDWS IS THE SHITIEST OS OVER !
that's a huge amount of fail packed into one comment. congrats
M$ WINDWS? what operating system is that? I may ve to agree with you on that version you re using, it is indeed the THE SHITIEST OS OVER. LOL
@papafew
While you ranting about how shitty m$ is, bill gates laughing his ass off all the way to the bank. Hell, i don't think u even able to achieve 0.001% of what he has. Dumb ass!!
LOL, looks so nostalgic! I'm getting this on my N810..... waiting... can't find my Windows 3.1 licence anymore...
I have SO many. Want me to mail you one? I've got like 80 of them.
I had forgotten how that ugly "DOS PROMPT" icon had become almost a part of myself.
(I love it, but let's be honest guys: it is ugly)
If anybody has got a link with a nice big one please post it ; I want to use it as my avatar and maybe to print it on t-shirts too.

LOL!!! Should have doublechecked that comment!!! XD
The n8x0 runs Linux.
But can it play 'Ultima VII'?
I don't know what this says for Nokia tablet when there are HTC people who have Windows 95 and even 98se installed.
Sorry kiddies, for those don't remember the days of the command line interface of DOS...
How many *nix users today could imaging living without a GUI?
Imagine your favorite distro without KDE, Gnome, Xfe, or anything "prettier" than X.
Imagine setting up each and every program individually to print, make sounds, work with (gasp) a mouse!
Imagine C being "The" programming language...
You Are All Noobs.
+1 bravo!
Most nubs these days don't even know work with DOS command lines...pathetic and sad.
could I assume that it could run DOS too?
I still have a copy of Street Fighter II, of which i managed to use keyboard for sho-ryu-ken and super combos.
Ninja, it's OK, I still liked it.
(Did I use the correct number of commas?)
Let me know when they get Vista up and running on a Nokia N95. Then I'll admit the Nokia N95 is almost as good as the iPhone 3G. Since I know it'll never happen, I can relax.
Anyway, the guy that did this hack deserves a tip of the hat. Looks cool.
Have I accidently web clicked myself back into 1994?
THIRTY-SECOND!
@phanbouy,
I agree with you there man, even old enemies like us can come together and acknowledge that comment hiding spawns double-posts and ridiculous after-the-fact "FIRST" posts all over the place. It's mind-numbingly painful.
Why is getting comments working somewhat reasonably so hard? Can we please just set a 10-minute ban after a story goes live for all posts containing the word "FIRST?"
Honestly...
This is nostalgic, funny, and stupid as hell.
What is Windows 3.1?
Is that what's coming after 2007?
Nostalgia? Owww.... this is something from the past.
WOWWWWW i remember Windows 3.1 i used to think i was so damn cool to actually watch the vids on the encarta encyclopedia on it.....how the times have changed
I actually installed DOS + windows 3.1 on an old thinkpad the other day to hook up to a C64 and act as an emulated floppy drive with 64HDD[64hdd.com]. I was using 98 earlier, but you had to quit out to the DOS prompt for 64hdd to work right. Also, 3.1 boots in 17 seconds (after POST).
But if you want a truly old-school GUI, check out GEOS[wikipedia.org] on the C64. It's amazing what you could do on 64K of RAM back in the day. And Geopaint kicks MS Paint's ass.
I used the hell out of DOS 6.22 / Win 3.11 until like 2000. I had a Toshiba T1850 laptop with a 9.5" VGA grayscale screen, a 386SX 25MHz CPU that could throttle back to 12.5MHz and a whole 12MB of RAM. It was slow, but that machine was amazing for what it did.
So much RAM the hard drive would just shut off until I needed to save a file, no energy-hog CPU toasting my nuts and a Nickel-fucking-Cadmium battery pack (eight Sub-C cells) at 9.6VDC and 2800mAh. Runtime? Ten hours!
I miss that kind of time. LOL
I soldered a TI 486SLC CPU into that machine and used it until I got bored one day, took it apart and forgot to put it back together for two years. When I finally did, it didn't work.
I bought another, though. It's still a 386, but I'm upgrading it with a Nickel Metal-Hydride battery and charging system. Twice the capacity. This will be a lot of fun, for sure. Not that I'll ever use it for anything. This is proof-of-concept.
Uhh, this is really old news. And its running Win 3.1 on a emulator on top of Linux. And yes, it is possible to run Windows 95 and 98 on the Nokia as well, just like how you can run it on the PSP and Windows Moible. Its not really something new. (oddly enough, iPhone is missing on this list)
