Chinavasion's HD camcorder is just as lame as you think
Okay, so we won't totally judge Chinavasion's "High Definition Great Value" camcorder before we get to know it, but we'll be frank, we ain't gettin' to know it. Those willing to give this heap a fighting chance can look forward to hope for 720p capturing at 30fps, 8-megapixel still shots, a 2.5-inch LCD monitor, 19MB (and not a byte more) of internal memory, an SD / SDHC expansion slot and an HDMI output for showing off your adventures to friends and family (who will inevitably whisper behind your back about what camcorder you chose). Nah, we're not seriously riding this thing that hard, but do tell if you're the first soul to lay down $157.50 for one. Anyone, anyone?

Look out Sony - Chinavision is here!
nice! in for one.
will it flow?/blend?
I am sold for $160.
I bought several of these and they are the best out there. Thank you Chinavision!
(this is my first post and is a poor representation of the "truth")
"I'm so glad this device has come out, and that has come out with it first"
What..? I'm banned?!?
It's not that easy...
you get what you pay for
The above comment was meant to say, just the tagging system deleted the brand part:
"I'm so glad this device has come out, and that (Insert brand name) has come out with it first"
What..? I'm banned?!?
It's not that easy...
And comments that bash on "1st post" are getting old as well... Just low rank or report them and be done with it, or just totally ignore them.
Oh the irony! Yes, I know.
:-x
No need to dish out major $$$ on a Red One camera...
This is good enough to shoot Pron...
should just delete comments that received enough low ranks. democracy works!
only 8 minutes late buddy. by the way people care more about a post relevant to the discussion, rather than one claiming to be "first".
Here's my 2 cents:
This is a crappy camcorder. shell out $400 for a real one that has the same features but won't break in 2 months.
Laugh all you want. You guys are all to young to remember how pathetic early Japanese products were. They were pioneering new gadgets like miniature portable transistor radios - the 'must-have' items of the day. It took about a decade for them to become respectable and soon after to overtake (decimate) US manufacturers.
S.Korea didn't go through such a long gestation period before they were wiping the floor with (even) Japanese manufacturers. Soon the Chinese will spawn the likes of LG and Samsung and the whole scene will look very different.
First A--hole that is.
Ok, did all you fools decide to get together and go from site to site behaving like a--holes writing "first" all at once? Again, go back to your gossip sites were other fools like yourself fight to be titled the "first" dumbass.
Did someone go off his meds today?
What the hell is up with the snotty posts on Engadget? Something is produced for a company that doesn't have a lower case letter in front of it nor an astronomical price tag so it must be shit. Not everyone can afford $500 phones or camcorders. For this price, it seems pretty attractive for the average schmo trying to record their kid's little league games.
AMEN to that my friend!
unless your my drug dealing uncle who wants to buy 6 of the 500 dollar ones for some HD voyeurism
Woot had a refurbished low end JVC Camcorder today for $125. In my opinion although this camera could be good It'll probably be crap.
look, i'm not made of money, okay? how's about you guys post about some technology we can all afford, okay? i'm just saying, okay?
"made in China" so you HAVE BEEN WARNED!
I wish I could agree with you. Unfortunately, 95% of everything in our households these days comes from China. From the best to the worst. From electronics to the pillows your lay your head on. They got the world by the balls. Sad but true.
ummm so is everything else, lol
either way the new 150-250$ HD cameras are the new thang, look how many pocketHD cams are coming out this is just in that same vane, i'd actually like to see how it holds up against the pocket hd cameras.
Well, then. YOU HAVE BEEN _VERY_ WARNED. TEH CHINEE ARE TAKING OVER TEH WLORDZ0R, NOT JUST YOUR CAMCORDZ0R!
FIRST, Ken, I must agree with you. You are totally correct. Not every dad or person who wants to record a moment needs the *best* clarity and highest price tag!
The title says "Chinavasion," as does their website - why can nobody get it right?
In line with the spate of, "first," comments - I think the standard retort should be, "Fuck you." Everyone should undertake in this and this will lead to be post and all our replies being removed.
At least Chinavision makes some kind of sense.
What the hell is "Chinavasion" anyway?
mb a typo, but once that big sign on the building and all that stationary was made they probably kept it.
It's short for China Invasion.
Look how TINY that lens is! The chip behind it is probably similar to that of a mobile phone...
Philip, I remember. You are correct. LOOOONG ago anything "Made in Japan" was crap. True. NOT now, as we all know. Maybe China will improve its reputation. Probably will. And then we are truly, 100% doomed. As long as our wages keep going up for less work and poorer quality, we don't stand a chance. Blame greed.
Your wages are going up? One of the few...
"What a waste of ink."
Yeah. First I have to pay through the nose for gas. Now, I won't even be to afford to write my senator about the issue.
@Rob, he's not even the first A--hole. second A--hole actually.
I think there still remains a mahoosive gap between the products designed in [insert non-China country here] and simply nailed together in China and the Chinese designed and made products. So far, the all Chinese products have been rubbish, but, like the previous posters noted, Korea and Japan, once upon a time were crap too. Anyone realize that LG used to be Goldstar? Where do you think the G comes from? Goldstar was s**t...LG...everyone loves it. Hyundai? Used to fall apart on the ship before they even got here...now? Best warranty in the business. Times change, but for now..."Chinavision"? Thanks, but no thanks.
Hey, if it's chinavision, does that mean that all of the videos are letter-boxed to accommodate for the high population of china eyed people in japan/
Anyway...back to the topic at hand and not bitching about trolls...
I've got the Aiptek Action HD, which I picked up at WalMart for $199 (I was morbidly curious). It's a great little camcorder, does 720p at 60fps and 1080p at 30fps. It really does work and the videos are crisp and sharp. Even takes great stills (though it won't replace my Rebel XTi) Only problem I've had is that the files it creates (Quicktime AVC1 H.264 MOV) will not play back smoothly on my computer, no matter what I use.
Markarian: I have that camera, too. Here's a little secret...rename the file extension to MP4 instead of MOV. Clears up the stutter. Of course I'm using Media Player Classic and the CCCP codec pack, as well as MP4Cam2AVI to repackage the MPEG4 streams into something I can process in VirtualDub. So yeah, that's about five more steps than a Mac with Final Cut would require, but hey. $140 camera.
I tried that trick and it still won't work. I can sometimes get 720p at 30fps to play okay, but forget 60fps. I've got an AMD Athlon 64 3200+ with 2GB of RAM and a GeForce 6600 256MB. The audio always loses sync, or the movie stutters and plays slowly.
"OSD Languages: English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish, Russian, Korean, Turkish, Portuguese, Dutch"
Uhhh... Chinese?
I know that you've probably already tried it, but use VLC as your player.
It handles 1080p video on my 1.6Ghz, 1gig ram, ati 1440 laptop without breaking a sweat.
