Netflix on the Xbox 360 gets demonstrated on video
Can't wait to understand what Netflix integration on the Xbox 360 will be like? Stop daydreaming and click on past the jump then, as Major Nelson takes you through the entire process on video. We could continue on explaining how easy it looks to navigate to one's Queue, press play and pop some popcorn, but we'd rather let the aforementioned expert handle that.

Now where's the Hulu love? Give me Hulu on the XBox 360 and I may just be able to kill my cable.
Will this be available outside the US?
The idea of the Netflix Watch Now (Instantly) sounds really great at first, but after watching a few movies, one quickly realizes that this has got a loooong way to go before it can become mainstream. There are several problems like poor PQ, 4:3 movies, no 5.1 audio, small selection, etc.
The quality of the Netflix Watch Now (Instantly) movies are no better than watching SD TV from basic cable, even when viewed at the maximum bitrate. WHICH IS NOWHERE CLOSE TO DVD QUALITY. In about 1/3 of the movies I have watched (viewed at maximum bitrate), the Netflix Watch Now movie was actually worse than SD TV, with poor picture quality (noticable pixelation). Also, all the movies were stereo only (no Dolby 5.1).
Netflix will need to get the Watch Now movies to _at least_ DVD quality (picture/audio) for this to have any chance. Until Netflix improves the quality of the downloaded movies, I don't see the announced Xbox 360 integration going anywhere.
That looks amazing. I subscribe to zip.ca in Canada, which is almost identical to Netflix. I really hope MS hooks something up with them so we Canuckistanians can enjoy the streaming deliciousness...
arghhhhhhhhh!!! when will video buffering technology get smart enough to know if it can start playing the entire clip without having to rebuffer during playback. I only say this because this is a clip about a video on demand service.
Anyway, I like the instant update to your queue. That was impressive. It would be nice to edit your queue from the XBOX 360.
This could be the moment that I convince the wife to get a 360. Our local video store just closed and we've been thinking about getting Netflix anyway. Having this capability and simplicity of use might just convince her.
It looks like the Major had to use a browser to view a movie that wasn't at the top of his queue.
I certainly hope you don't have to use a PC to navigate and reorder your instant queue. That would be annoying. I personally don't keep an order in my instant queue, I just use it as a list of movies I want to watch with instant viewing.
I would like to know if all people invite to watch the movie need both netflix and xbox live or just xbox live... can anyone look into that. cause it would be cool to have a movie night with some of my bests of friends around the US that I know have 360's but not netflix. live a virtual living room and be able to chat with one another via our headsets like we are all in the same room.
honestly, that just sounds cool.
is this free?
When he says you can invite friends (via xbox live) to a party to watch the movie, does he mean invite your friend across town to come over and bring popcorn, or to invite your xbox live buddy across the country to watch along with you via xbox live?
Anyone get the irony?
Consumers finally get the benefits of HD through HD TV channels over satellite and cable which raises quality expectations and the desire to actually utilize that fancy 1080p TV they bought at best buy for $599.
The content redistributors - Netflix, Amazon, Apple - push the streaming or download as the next big thing when the vast majority is 4:3, 480i/p and lacks digital surround formats.
So the TV tech is way more advanced than the content. Unless you buy into physical media for which only one choice remains - BluRay.
Ever get the feeling you are being played?
I bought Apple TV 2.0 because I wanted HD rentals, however the number of movies in this format is miniscule. Even worse, when Apple announced day/date with DVD I expected to be able to rent but no, alll these movies have a 1 month delay before rental and no guarantee they will be in HD.
I also notice a similar paucity of HD rentals on Xbox360.
Bottom line IMHO, both the redistributors (Amazon, Netflix, Apple, Microsoft) and the content providers (studios) have castrated the HD download/rental market to minimal content in an orchestrated plot to force blu ray to succeed(survive). It wont work. I can wait and so can many others.
We want online delivery at HD/7.1 quality both rental and purchase - blackmail does not work. Physical disks are yesterday and the industry needs to bite the bullet no matter what it means for Blockbuster.
The only good news about this battle IMHO is there is only one possible outcome and that is online delivery in the not-so long run. All these other crap efforts are just doomed. Hey Amazon thank you for convincing me to buy a new widescreen 1080p TV - what's that? Your own movies dont fill the screen? I think I've been played \.
ok so how fast does your internet have to be for this to work, cause i don't see Australia improving their bandwith speed anytime soon. Rudd.. you and your empty promises.
