Sony said to be prepping PSP-3000 with built-in mic

There may not have been any word of a new PSP out of E3 as some had suspected, but it looks Sony may have a bit of a late surprise for us, at least if these tantalizing pics from PSPChina are to be believed. Apparently, this new PSP-3000 model remains mostly unchanged from the current PSP-2000, with the notable addition of a built-in microphone and a somewhat less notable PlayStation button in place of the usual Home button. As you can see in the picture after the break, the signature steel ring on the back of the PSP also appears to have been trimmed a bit (there's a pic of the inside of the case as well, for the curious). Not exactly the DS Lite sort of upgrade that'd make everyone ditch their old PSPs to be sure but, as we've seen with the PSP-2000, it would be about par for the course for Sony.

Need 2nd joystick and I'd go for it.
New motherboard = New changes, mic well, BritishTelecom go!communicator/Skype/HOME/in game communicatio. There already is gps for PSP Old&new (mapthis). IpHONE TS type I'm sure but I want a PicProjector built-in. Screw a better screen.
is there not some way for them to make a new firmware all the older models that inverts the little speakers into a microphone when headphones are plugged in, that has to be possible right????
It would sound reeaaalllly bad and really quiet, youd literally have to shout. Microphones are generally extremely sensitive whereas speakers are robust im pretty sure the quality would be horrendous. Cool idea though I like your thinking!
My only issue is with the color... can you get them in anything other than black?

In Japan they were selling around 5 colors of PSP-1000s when I was there last August. I ended up buying a gold-metallic color PSP.
You can find them on E-Bay.
I think colors were something like:
Black
Silver
Gold
Pink
Blue
Weren't they selling White PSPs in the US?
If this is the biggest news about the next version of the PSP, I doubt it'd be a big boost to sales!
Got it, Donald, Joystiq or Kotaku would indeed have been the better choice ;).
If they make a new version, it is because it cost them less to produce.
I got my psp the day it came out and I don't even play with it anymore!

Upgrading the wifi to 802.11G would be nice. Perhaps even upgrading the PSP's power draw to allow for a constant 333mhz cpu clock.
I'm still waiting to be able to playback divx on the PSP since it is already on the PS3. Or is it too cpu intensive for the PSP?
i think that the psp would be a big hit if it had a built in camera
and it doesnt have to be a great one. just so you can take pics and vids
you can buy this camera for the psp 2000 series it hooks into the mini b usb port but it cant pic up sound i think. you can buy it on ebay
and i think it should support mp4 format also
I have had my PSP phat since 2005 when it was released in my country (South Africa). I have seen absolutely no reason to even consider the PSP Slim or a new version nog al. I use M33 and have backups of all my games which has preserved them. Some of my friends have to throw away their games they get so scratched. The original PSP rules, we don't need a new one thank you.
