TiVo lets users buy stuff from Amazon on their TV, all three QVC fans go wild
Back in May, TiVo's VP of product marketing got all of our hopes up that the next announcement involving it and Amazon would include HD Unbox content. As you can very clearly see, this is most certainly not the case. Instead, we have the immense pleasure of informing internet-connected Series2, Series3 and TiVo HD owners that they can now buy wares from Amazon without leaving their couch. If browsing through Amazon's extraordinarily huge store with just a remote sounds appealing to you, you're in luck (and mildly insane). Also of note, the new Product Purchase feature will enable advertisers to "market products sold through Amazon on any broadcast or cable network, any TV show, or via any of TiVo's extensive interactive advertising features." In other words, next time you see Dwight using that iconic shredder, you can buy that bad boy right then and there. Take that, Staples.

Why do we need amazon on our TiVos?
hiko36 @ Jul 22nd 2008 10:34AM
We don't... But integration is the future according to many business models and they'll be damned if anyone should think otherwise.

I can see the fat soccer mom's post-soccer mom era cozying up to this thing -- took the only exercise they had, grabbing the phone, dialing, and talking, out of their compulsive shopping. Not good.
Ginsu Knife dealers rejoice.

Hahahahaha. I love Engadget, if not for anything else, the damn witty headlines.
ScOObyDoo @ Jul 22nd 2008 10:45AM
I really wish TiVo would spend some more time improving the core features instead of adding useless crap like this. I fully understand they are dying to make some more cash, but this is just getting silly.

Very Funny

Someday, when every piece of technology is completely integrated into your TV, these guys can sit back and say "We helped start that..."
Until then, they can enjoy the free food at the local soup kitchen...

"all three QVC fans go wild"
Seriously? That's like saying "all 3 SUV drivers in America". Humor works better when there's some truth behind it.
Sim @ Jul 22nd 2008 11:02AM
FYI, QVC did about $600 million in sales last year.
High Ranks make you sterile @ Jul 22nd 2008 11:40AM
FYI QVC $600M so OMG STFU Engadget QVC FTW!
Josh @ Jul 22nd 2008 11:41AM
And here are the those three!!! I bet Engadget wouldn't have guessed it! QVC and Engadget fans!
But on a serious note, TiVo has been changing TV networks economics - as you can read: http://www.internetevolution.com/author.asp?section_id=565&doc_id=154852&f_src=flffour , and now it's making an interesting case for service integration. Stay tuned!

WOW you guys are jerks haha it was a joke who expects tech readers to watch the worst show ever created, QVC
fistpittingnork @ Jul 22nd 2008 11:10AM
You have a problem with "Christmas in July" or "In the Kitchen with Bob"?
Dan_C @ Jul 22nd 2008 11:14AM
I love my Tivo and all, but what the fuck.
I friggen pay to buy the Tivo and I pay a monthly fee for the Tivo service (well I actually did a prepay plan, same thing), why should I have these product placements shoved in my face.
There's already ads on the main menu and record menus, and they have popups during tv commercials where I can hit 'Thumbs Up' to record the show in the commercial. And there's no way to turn the ads off.
I would understand if Tivo was a free service, but I pay a good amount of money to them, so this shit is getting ridiculous, and you know they will be putting these Amazon ad placements in different TV shows.
timo123z @ Jul 22nd 2008 2:40PM
Show Tivo your how unhappy you are with the ads by canceling your service. Seriously, there are quite a few other DVR options out there. Anyone unhappy with the fact that Tivo is trying to generate revenue to stay in business should consider just jumping ship and go to the other options.
As for me, the ads are unobtrusive and do not interfere with my day to day use. I don't even notice them anymore.
eric @ Jul 22nd 2008 11:31AM
Great, my wife is a tivo freak.

Hah all 3 QVC? ^^^^ See that post on 600M- plus revenues from QVC China, India, Germany, and England.
Actually, the ordering thing would be pretty sweet for QVC because iwho wants to pick up the phone to order stuff from QVC anymore when you can just press OK on the TiVo
Jman @ Jul 22nd 2008 11:27PM
I can't wait to cancel TiVo.
They really fell from grace.
Waiting for Unbox on the Roku.
