iPhone 3G SIM unlock demoed on video, zero details given
We've already seen the iPhone 3G got unlocked to function on any carrier (and you can already buy unlocked versions in several countries), but we haven't seen a locked handset get unlocked via software only, and the folks at gsmphone-unlocking have the first video we've seen of Steve's newest baby doing the SIM swap dance without any adapters. Yep, there it is, going from Rogers to Fido. Sadly, the video is more of a shameless ploy for publicity than actually useful information, and until we're told otherwise, we're just going to assume that they've just gotten hold of an early copy of the Dev Team's unlocking tool -- which should be free to the public sometime soon. So, you know: video after the break, but feel free to ignore the obnoxious phone numbers and URLs.

rogers owns fido, some of the current in market handsets are carrier locked to both rogers and fido, and the iphone 3g may be no different.
Unlike the old iPhone you can't get an iPhone 3G without locking into a big fat contract with your carrier, so what's the point of unlocking your phone before your contract expires?
I think you might be able to switch Fido/Rogers sims with each other since the both companies are owned by Rogers. Wrong proof of concept, now would've been AT&T with TMobile then it would be interesting. I'll look into this today with my sister's iphone.
Exactly what "john" an others are saying.
You can add to your Rogers or Fido plan an option to be able to hop on either network. No unlocking of a phone necessary.
I bought the new iphone 3G 16GB from the US 3 days ago and now... Wow, I can't believe that, it WORKS. I got my iphone 3G unlocked for Fido Network. BIG BIG UPS to gsmphone-unlocking.com and its team
Thanks for all.
Rogers and Fido may be the same company, but you CANNOT switch phones between carriers, they still use DIFFERENT network codes.
You can pay an extra $5 a month (if you are with Fido) to be able to Roam on the Rogers network, however your phone is still locked to Fido.
If you have a Rogers iPhone you cannot use it on Fido (or any other carrier) without first unlocking it.
Hey, I'm in the same area code as that phone number! Maybe I should ring it up...
there is a small hole punched on the Fido Sim Card. It's usung the sim unlock tool for $10.
There are so many New dude on this fourm. We are cellularclinic.com We endorse gsmphone-unlocking and YESSIM work. 100% authentic. Tested there SIM unlocked 10 Iphone 3g for T-mobile customers. Keep it up gsmphone-Unlocking. disregard what other saying.
WORKS! I had it done to my phone.. It was Fido-locked, and after switching to Rogers I couldn't use the phone anymore. After chipping it I can now use the phone!! It's been 48 hours now. ONE problem.. my 3G icon disappeared. not sure if it's due to the chip or if it's on my Rogers plan (dont have data plan yet)
you need to turn on 3g roaming
settings->general->cellular data network->3g roaming
(i think that was the menu tree for that setting, i don't have my phone here in front of me)
I unlocked my Rogers iPhone 3g with sim hack over a week ago. Big woop, a video.
no we just have to find out how to get an iphone out of a fido store without having to sign up for a 3 year contract first...
For me, Universal Sim worked very well to unlock my iPhone 3G 8GB. My friend told me he had some problems with his Yessim, that is why i bough Universal Sim
I cant believe none of you'll observed this. If you look closely when he is putting the FIDO sim card in the phone the top of the card is cut(he is trying to cover it with his thumb, look at 0:36 to 0:37) and you can also see the small chip, that all these sim card adapters have on it.
