Samsung's i8510 INNOV8 gets official in Europe, shown off on video

We've already gotten word of most of the details of Samsung's i8510 INNOV8 (get it?) smartphone, but things just got a whole lot more official for the device in Europe and, coincidentally, a number of sites recently got to spend some time with the phone in NYC (despite the lack of an official US release). Of course, there's not a whole lot of surprises to be found, but it certainly seems like the phone will get the job done and then some, with its built in camera not only boasting an impressive 8 megapixels, but auto-focus, image stabilization, and a flash as well. The rest of the specs aren't too shabby either. Head on past the break to check out one video of the device courtesy of MobileBurn, and be sure to hit up the Laptop Mag link below for a second, higher-quality look at it.

so this gonna be the N96 Killer!!
man this fon is awsome!
Steffen Jobbs @ Jul 24th 2008 3:37PM
Maybe you should hold out for the ZunePhone which MS is currently building in secret. ZunePhone and WinMo 7. The ultimate Nokia N96 killer.
Anthony @ Jul 24th 2008 4:55PM
Running the same software to boot. Nokia better be paying attention. An S60 w/ a better camera is fine by me no matter who's making it.
yode @ Jul 24th 2008 1:43PM
IT RUNS S60. big deal man.
aaron @ Jul 24th 2008 1:44PM
More pixels does not equal better pictures....
When will people understand this?
huh @ Jul 24th 2008 1:51PM
True, but more resolution is good if the quality is good. And the Nokia line (with glass Zeiss lens) does have good picture quality. Until the plastic lens cover gets all scratched up and it can't focus anymore.
Ryan Trevisol @ Jul 24th 2008 1:44PM
I can't understand a 16GB smartphone without some kind of qwerty keyboard. It looks extremely capable, but without qwerty I just can't see using it as a smartphone.
Sarig @ Jul 24th 2008 2:35PM
With predictive text, you can write just as fast as with a cramped qwerty, with practice. If not even faster.
iEye @ Jul 24th 2008 1:44PM
You have to Navigate to an icon using the keypad... why cannot they just include a touch screen also? just press the icon... then use the keypad for other input.
And I bet they will have the nerve to charge $600+ for it.
SuperSexyErik (^_^) @ Jul 24th 2008 1:53PM
im with you. people keep putting iphone down, but what they dont realize is that if you want a better phone, youll end up paying $600 for it. For $200, the iphone is amazing.
Sarig @ Jul 24th 2008 2:36PM
For 200$, the iPhone is subsidised!
Engadgetluvsappl @ Jul 24th 2008 1:45PM
One of the key selling points of this phone is that it runs S60, the most successful smartphone OS in the world by a vast majority. Why is there no mention of this in your article?
SuperSexyErik (^_^) @ Jul 24th 2008 1:47PM
s60 was seccesful because there wasnt any competition..now its silly and outdated. thats why they wouldnt mention it, its a negative, not a positive.
Engadgetluvsappl @ Jul 24th 2008 1:50PM
Lol, please, just keep quiet next time.
*Symbian.

Is it me or is it just people really can't drop that FIRST on blogs, forums, etc. on the internets ?
Esat Dedezade @ Jul 24th 2008 2:02PM
Fenway; Remove yourself and begone.
Samsung; Sweet phone.
That is all.
Scran @ Jul 24th 2008 2:10PM
does the specs actually matter tho, cause at the end of the day its still a samung, whitch =shit
Sarig @ Jul 24th 2008 2:38PM
In my experience, Samsung is like most other cell phone makers, they have phones representing both ends of the spectrum. Utter crap, and ingenious gadgets.
Used their new Soul phone? It's amazingly cool.
Itsuru @ Jul 24th 2008 2:22PM
Who says that? I don't know, but I prefer them over the people that say "First" in these topics.
Colin B @ Jul 24th 2008 2:24PM
@Fenway Beer Man
"remove yourself and begone"
Your mom said that to me last night, right before you came home to her basement.
TrueDis @ Jul 24th 2008 2:27PM
Wow, sounds like the chick they had there as a "rep" knew just about zilch about the product. Way to go Samsung!
But I bet she was hot...
kjb434 @ Jul 24th 2008 2:33PM
You make an ass of yourself earlier in this post and now you want people to go to your blog?
Talk about wasting out time.
Sarig @ Jul 24th 2008 2:39PM
The Internet is Serious Business.
Colin B @ Jul 24th 2008 2:41PM
Wait so Engadget, since you've been deleting Fenway Beer Man's posts, does this mean you've finally instituted a banhammer? If so, THANK YOU!
anwark @ Jul 24th 2008 3:02PM
This was my dream phone when I first heard the rumours about it, when the possibility of a Xenon flash still existed. Now I just find it difficult to justify dropping 600+ on this phone. It just boggles my mind that a phone with such advanced camera features doesn't have a Xenon flash, just....mind boggling.
pyrotech @ Jul 25th 2008 1:35PM
No Xenon totally negates the hype of an 8MP camera.
Cannot figure out why the hell would they do that when the phone has practically everything else.
Steffen Jobbs @ Jul 24th 2008 3:30PM
Darn sure does look like the LG shine. I'm sure it's a full featured handset. Eight megapixels is impressive. It appears to be more camera than anything else. I'm sure it will be rather expensive, so they'll probably only sell a handful of them.
My avatar says if Samsung throws in a year's supply of bananas with a contract on that handset, he'd be all over it.
Rich @ Jul 24th 2008 3:49PM

You mean like the N95?
jaalin @ Jul 24th 2008 4:33PM

Sarig @ Jul 24th 2008 4:51PM
Shoud've been August. And it'd be 8 all the way!
Montusama @ Jul 24th 2008 5:53PM
Just wow...from the introduction....i'm sold on it already.......
now i just gotta move to AT&T or T-Mobile.....
joe blow @ Jul 24th 2008 7:50PM
What, no GPS? This phone is still worth $350. But $600? No way. I hate Apple, but I'd get an iphone over this for that money.
Rich @ Jul 25th 2008 5:18AM
It has GPS...
AlmostDone @ Jul 24th 2008 9:39PM
iPhones are for simpletons who likes being told what you can and can't do.
Want to record a video... You can't
Want to MMS... You can't
Want to bluetooth a file... You can't
Want to listen to music wirelessly... You can't
Want a filemanager... You can't
Want to avoid iTunes crap... You can't
Want to send a picture via email that does not shrunk to VGA resolution... You can't
Want install apps (without jailbreak) that is not approved by ICrap Apple... You can't
I could go on and on and on...
When Apple actually learns what users want then they can be a serious compeitior to the market... Their 7+ million iPhones sales pales in comparision to Nokia who sell 450 million phones a year.
Welcome to the real world macboys....
I would choose any OS over iPhone crap closed OS.
Andrew @ Jul 25th 2008 12:47AM
Want to record a video... fixed, you can.
Want to MMS... fixed, you can.
Want to bluetooth a file... fixed, you can.
Want to listen to music wirelessly... fixed, you can.
Want a filemanager... fixed, you can.
Want to avoid iTunes crap... fixed, you can.
Want to send a picture via email that does not shrunk to VGA resolution... fixed, you can.
Want install apps (without jailbreak) that is not approved by ICrap Apple... fixed, you can.
I could go on and on and on... just install the software that you want and shut up!

I recently went on a trip to Greece and was salivating over the cell phones available. It's amazing how far back we are in terms of cell phone technology. A crying shame!
jefffaucher @ Jul 24th 2008 3:23PM
You went to Greece and salivated over the phones, rather than the women, the scenery, the ocean, the food? What a wienie!
britty_xx @ Aug 13th 2008 4:22AM
how much does it cost? because i have been to many different websights and none says how much.
