iriver's Spinn hits the FCC, means nothing

Sure, it doesn't look like much thanks to the FCC's staunch aversion to photo glam, but that's iriver's Spinn PMP, a product which had us at a full, rigid swoon back at CES. While this would generally be good news, the model approved features a DAB radio and DMB television tuner -- in other words, it's not intended for US consumption. The user manual also confirms a FM radio, Mini SD slot, Bluetooth, D-Click System interface, 27 hours of audio and 5 hours of video, and support for SWF (Flash), TXT, MP3, WMA, OGG, JPG, AVI, MWV file formats. With FCC approval out of the way, the rumored UK August release date is presumably in the bag.

Slated because it's not for America? Thought this was about technology, shouldn't matter where it's from.
Theyre releasing it just NOW?
And wheres the iRiver E150 and E200? They were going to scrap the E100 for a successor.....
I'm getting tired of waiting.
If its not intended for US consumption, why is it going through the FCC?
August release date?
Probably, since it may come to the US with someone traveling here, they don't want it playing nasty with our airwaves. At least that's what I'm guessing.
I hate it.
True. If you're intending to sell it in the states why go thru the rigaramole and grief of FCC? Seems pointless.
congratulations!
Why are you calling yourself "3g"?
I'm starting to get really tired of engadget's endless supply of painfully glib titles. Stop trying so hard to be witty and just report the news.
This is STILL just a blog, not a news site. They can say whatever they want however they want.
What? We're actually getting a tech product before America! Well colour me astonished!
I'm lost on the need for FCC approval, but applaud the use of Bluetooth as I'm a huge fan of it. I'm half interested in what this can do, but I'm holding out for the HTC Touch Pro or the Xperia X1 to just do everything. I'm using an Insignia Pilot 8GB with my T-Mobile Dash, and a Jabra BT3030 "lashing" it all together. Would be nice to drop one device.
What does the U.S. FCC have to do with releasing a product in the UK?
I want to count how many posts per week Engadget puts "means nothing" or "no one cares" or "meh" after the headline.
[Un]enthusiast press!
D-Click? This is the biggest disappointment of my day. What happened to the unique UI, or the promise or "warm analog control"?
Their good CEO left and they introduced the CEO that is make bad decisions not to mention he has ties with people who are in the market of making cheap Chinese mp3 players and their parts. One of the reasons this product suck a little now.
Finally, it's coming out. It feels like forever since they announced it at CES. I'll be sure to be the first in line when they release it in Korea.
