Fujifilm, Nintendo bring photo printing service to Japanese Wiis
Not that the Big N hasn't snubbed the vast majority of the world before with these channel releases, but folks holed up everywhere save for Japan have yet another one they can only look longingly at from afar. Thanks to a new partnership between Nintendo and Fujifilm, the Wii Digicam Print Channel is immediately available for Japanese Wii consoles to access, which essentially gives owners the ability to upload images from SD cards and receive customized prints, photo books, business cards, etc. in the mail. How else are you going to print the super-cool Mario Galaxy victory picture of Luigi with Peach with your Wii photo graffitti-like scrawl of "I am teh pwnerer"?
HOOPER @ Jul 27th 2008 10:17PM
Uh...yay?
Able-X @ Jul 27th 2008 10:23PM
Frankly, I don't expect ANY channels they release in Japan to make it stateside. We're like the redheaded step-child to Nintendo anymore.

Reason for not using a PC:
The average Joe-san in Japan doesn't have a computer at home, his basic tasks like emailing, surfing etc. can be done from his mobile phone. So this kind of service can be handy if you only own a camera and a game console which many people do actually.
chefgon_ign @ Jul 27th 2008 10:45PM
Wow, even if their mobile phones are one hundred times more advanced and user friendly than ours, browsing the internet exclusively on a phone would suck hard.

I fail to see why anyone would buy a digital camera and not have a computer. I would assume the Japanese would get those Fujitsu Lifebooks or whatever other tiny laptops they have, but then I've never been to Japan.

He needs to post to keep his job. I heard something about massive budgets cuts. They shut Joystiq down for a day or two.

He must be going on vacation soon.
Colin Potter @ Jul 28th 2008 4:28AM

Rocketboy @ Jul 28th 2008 2:08PM

There was a minor system update for the Wii recently in the US (not big enough to even cause a version increment, so still 3.3U) that only affects the Photo Channel. Chances are, this is coming soon to the US as well, I bet.
OneLove @ Jul 28th 2008 12:18AM
they locked him in the office.

The reason people will use this instead of a computer is that in Japan, technology has progressed so rapidly a lot of people have skipped the personal computer stage altogether and do everything on their cell phones and game consoles.

Hm, Im sure you shortened your name from i-sleep-with-sheep

No DVD playing and no CD playing because Nintendo wants to keep their console focused on gameplay...but when Fuji comes along and throws them some cash...suddenly we'll develop a channel that no one is going to use to have their pictures developed.
Amazing how they can make a comeback with the Wii and then flush all of the goodwill down the drain. They best hope that their next product is amazing or else people like me will be picking up the next iteration of the Xbox or PS.

I agree, removing a feature makes Wii SO much better.
zebra @ Jul 28th 2008 11:29PM
I think they have to provide this for free to do there marketing.
