Reason for not using a PC: The average Joe-san in Japan doesn't have a computer at home, his basic tasks like emailing, surfing etc. can be done from his mobile phone. So this kind of service can be handy if you only own a camera and a game console which many people do actually.
Wow, even if their mobile phones are one hundred times more advanced and user friendly than ours, browsing the internet exclusively on a phone would suck hard.
I fail to see why anyone would buy a digital camera and not have a computer. I would assume the Japanese would get those Fujitsu Lifebooks or whatever other tiny laptops they have, but then I've never been to Japan.
