New Xbox 360 Dashboard update gets leaked, shown off

Sure, we've seen the Xbox 360's forthcoming Dashboard update demoed in a polished presentation and detailed in high res press pics, but if you're like us, you don't really get exciting about something until it's leaked out into the wild and shown off blurry cam-style. The particularly adventurous can apparently even take their chances and install this new "Xbox Experience" update themselves, but the exact details about where to get it and how to install it are understandably a bit hard to come by. If you do go that route, however, you'll need to make sure you have a modded console with an Infectus 2 Chip in the system and, most likely, a second 360 to fall back on in the event the first bursts into flames. The rest of us will just have to make do with the video after the break.

video taken down already? sadnesses.
M$ wont take it down, it is M$ classical marketing > leak
That'$ an intere$ting theory I$aac. Maybe you're really a M$ $chill your$self trying to $pread mi$information by "expo$ing" M$ in thi$ way?
Cool, this guy hacked coverflow into his 360 interface.
Looks a tad bit like vista...
meh. video just took forever to load.
still, it looks slick. can't wait for the update.
wonder how our themes will be integreted that we bought?
Here is how it will look

Still loads better the ad-infested mess the current 360 blade dashboard is.
In this video the new dashboard doesn't look nearly as gay as when it was shown at the e3 press conference, hopefully it stays that way.
How can the dashboard have a sexual preference?
i meant it in the slang term of not cool.....
So why not say not cool? Or weak?
Because "not cool" and "weak" are gay
That is QUITE a major change to the UI. Considering the 360 has been out for years now, feels pretty weird.
That owl really freaks me out man.
O RLY?
YA RLY!
NO WAI!

It looks like they actually added color to the dashboard this time... But what's with the "pixelate out' style of closing windows or channels or whatever they want to call them?
I could've sworn the dashboard had too many colors before.. Or are you referring to the previously shown, new dashboard?
That looked like digital video artefacts to me. You can thank either the blurry cam or poor encoding for that
I was referring to the new dashboard that was shown at E3, compared to this version. It was all gray before.
That, my friend, is a little something I like to call "high saturation".
Hey thanks for getting me exciting about something!
It looks decent. There were some oddities with the transitions, but maybe it looks better in person than on video (could have been the camera).
And for all those who want their blade back, at least you can fall back to the blade (according to what i read).
No one should be angry about this update. Its very welcome.
You can't fall back to the blade but you can refuse to install but microsoft will block people playing multiplayer or connecting to xbox live. so you might as well just install.
You can "fall back" to the blade interface in that the Xbox Guide (currently the small blade that flies out from the left of the screen when you press the Xbox button on your controller) has been upgraded to hold every single feature of the current Dashboard, even the Marketplace and launching Arcade games. So if you don't like the new interface, you can just use the Xbox Guide to do things and never have to touch the new Dashboard.
I wonder how they're going to integrate themes. If they don't, they better refund our microsoft points!
I think it basically uses the theme backgrounds.
jeez i am sick of people milking this whole "what about my themes" crap. everyone has read it on engadget, joystiq, xbox360fanboy and major nelsons. they will work, now shut the friggin hell up. every single mention of the 360 and/or dashboard gets the same rrod and "my themes". Jeez go cry another river somewhere else emo.
"but if you're like us, you don't really get exciting about something until it's leaked out into the wild and shown off blurry cam-style" Great line lol
Hello, Coverflow.
Microsoft: The Freedom to Innovate (TM).
How about, Hello Win-Flip!
@Quix
Apple bought that Coverflow novelty from a third party, so you can take your smarmy comments and shove 'em up your iHole.
@ L.Rawlins:
And Microsoft bought Coverflow from who?
P.S. my comment had nothing to do with Apple, but everything to do with Microsoft's consistent "me too" approach to innovation. If truth is "smarmy" to you, well, too bad.
It doesn't resemble Coverflow, it's like Vista's Flip 3d.
Quix, this design isn't anything like Cover Flow. Before you call me a M$ nut, keep in mind that I'm a Mac guy myself and am typing this from a MBP.
Poor Quix just doesnt know about the awesomeness that is the Aero interface. He is just too "Quix" to judge.
rock99rock should do stand up.
And that looks nothing like Coverflow. The elements on the side don't face the element to the center, and there's text.
Looks decent to me, as long as it doesn't get to "busy". The blades are nice and clean, hopefully the new experience stays that way.
lol is it just me or does the way it switches panels look alot like the way vista aero switches windows?
Lame, "beeyotch".
Hopefully they'll get rid of all the advertisements, they can sometimes be very distracting, either that or put an option to install Adblock Plus.
...yeah... good luck with that one.
what advertisements?
Jason:
Apparently some people, like Peter, associate notifications of newly posted content that they can download with paid advertisements like something you would see for McDonald's.
Come on now, he has a point. There is no getting around the fact they are paid ads. I don't like them on my 360 or my TiVo both of which I have to pay for. Ads should not be present with a Gold membership.
How does the 7th age of computing effect this?
Yay! It's Windows Media Xbox!

It looks much quicker; one thing I never liked about the current interface is some of the delay.. The PS3 XMB is much smoother and quicker..
I had to scroll down this far for a PS3 post?
Who needs a PS3 when you have a XBOX.
Its been so long since someone mentioned PS3, no joke.
Any chance you can check if it has any new codec support from within the media center extender interface? Specifically x264/mkv/divx/xvid support would be great! Thanks!
MJB
I'd think that depends on the media center extender program, which I believe is stored on your media center computer.
Yep.. Thats one thing I could never understand. Videos that play fine in Vista Media Center on the PC, also play fine If I access them through the shared directory on the XBox 360. If I use the the 360 as a Media Extender and run Media Center through the 360, it can't play the videos. I really hope the have that fixed. I use the PC and VMC as my tuner for the TV using the 360 as an extender since it allows me to pause live TV and the processing cleans up the cable picture quite a bit.
Awesome so its basically like Sonys XMB now. Finally something less confusing.
*cough* Front Row *cough*
I hope to god that those gay avatars will not be forced O___o i wanna stick with my gamer pic's
dashboard is for real. a little bird tells me netflix will be on it also.
fall update.
It looks fake to me. It has all the hallmarks.
* 'leet' lettering to prevent font comparison.
* unclear jewel-button pushing that could easily disguise another button being pushed
* Menu items don't match those shown in any of the E3 press briefing
* This could very easily be faked in an XNA application.
As a final point, I'd say that the xbox is black with a white faceplace. This messes up the aesthetics of the thing, and besides, if you were showing off your xbox, you want it to look good, right?
Basically, don't believe it until you see it booting up from off.
