Dell's Studio Hybrid product page goes live: Gotta Spec 'Em All!
Cat's out of the bag: we're nerds, and can't think of a better way to spend a Tuesday morning than to shuffle through endless configuration pages, trying to build the best bang-for-buck Studio Hybrid on the internet. Dell's product page for the new mini desktop -- which was released last night -- is now online, and offers up that fabled $499 configuration, in addition to some rather spendy siblings. For instance, if you want to go bamboo that's an extra $130 right out of the gate, a display will cost you $200 minimum, it's $50 to bump the Hybrid up to 2GB of RAM, that Blu-ray drive is a hefty $250 add-on, and WiFi will cost you $70. There's no option for discreet graphics -- that's no surprise -- and the TV tuner option is of the USB dongle variety. Luckily some of Dell's pre-configured versions come with decent "Instant Savings," but it's clear Dell is going for a slightly premium, design-conscious consumer here, not the spendthrift.

it looks like a an iomega external cd/dvd drive.
Hmm, thiats quite sexy. I'd probably use that hooked up to my HDTV if it can handle 1080 content.
Look like the pc's from Portal.
The Mac Mini hasnt had a *real* refresh in y e a r s... this just came out. So for everyone comparing the two, you are comparing something that came out in like 2005 to something that just hit the market... just saying.
I do have to say tho that for someone that wants a second / a non-workhorse PC this is a good option. But who really wants to say "oh yeah I just bought a crippled machiene b/c it looked perty!"
I was recently shopping around for a new computer for my mom, and she didnt want anything to do with linux or an older laptop. Why? She is only doing internet/word processing so something with 1/4 of the power of this new Dell should be good right? No. Most people do not want something that cannot handle to things that they arent even going to attempt to do.

Yeah, it's sad..
'can it run the latest photoshop?'
'can /you/ run the latest photoshop?'
'that's besides the point, we're talking about the machine here, not me...'
Wow, utterly amazing performance, definitely replaces regular pcs. Gaming pcs still are there for hardcore tasks. DELL has done everything right now! WATCHOUt hp, prepare for a downhill ride (and dont try to copy dell's amazing pcs)!
Kinda steep price tag, but the design is really nice.
Has anyone built a boxee server with the Dell Studio Hybrid?
Wonder if it would support 1080 over the HDMI connection?
