FCC gets first dibs on HTC Touch Diamond with North American HSDPA
Want downloads on your Touch Diamond to exceed the pace of a molasses-covered snail when on North American soil? Well, if you already have a Touch Diamond, you're outta luck -- but future buyers have another version to look forward to that packs HSDPA on the all-important 850 and 1900MHz bands. We don't have any word on when this is coming, where it's going, or how much it'll run, but hey, it exists. That's a solid start.

I left the ATT pits 'o hell years ago and now sprint no longer has me in 2 year slavery.

That is great news. My contract with AT&T is up for an upgrade option in November so I hope this is out by then. It would compete with the iPhone for my love.
John Doe @ Jul 29th 2008 11:37AM
yeah...mine is up for upgrade right now but am waiting on X1 too
still 3 contenders for my upgrade...iphone, X1 and Diamond
Dave @ Jul 29th 2008 11:38AM
Chris hate to break it to you, but all current Diamond owners need is the ROM update and they should be able to get HSDPA on the 850 band since there is no difference in the actual hardware being used.
Just an FYI for people that already have a Touch Diamond here in the states.
Chris Ziegler @ Jul 29th 2008 11:44AM
Dave - that's incorrect. The firmware update enables 850MHz GSM, not WCDMA.
Sachin @ Jul 29th 2008 11:56AM
for Touch users: if you want this ROM update (and i can't see why you wouldn't) just google "1.93.831.1 WWE"; that's the version of the update.
getStringFromObj() @ Jul 29th 2008 11:56AM
You can enable quad band now, xda-developers has what you need.
Sergio @ Jul 29th 2008 12:06PM
Yes you can enable I tried it and it works.
Just go to
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=428
And by the way the Diamond kicks fruit ass any day.
Remember second best they are.
Dave @ Jul 29th 2008 2:58PM
Chris, I know that you can already have the 850 band and not the 850 3G band...all thats needed though is a ROM update (not currently unavailable) that will be a fix for those who currently have a "tri-band" EU Diamond.
Dave @ Jul 29th 2008 4:35PM

kjb434 @ Jul 29th 2008 11:39AM
Perfect!

Its great that T-Mobile is not getting any of these cool new phones because if they did, then I would have legitimate options on choosing a phone; and we allllll know that is way more than anybody wants. Thank god for tmo
chefgon_ign @ Jul 29th 2008 11:56AM
I've got two long, painful years to go on my T-mo contract. Once the wait is over, I'm getting the hell out. They've done an excellent job of making sure that no half-sane person would renew that contract.
Matthew Hilario @ Jul 29th 2008 11:50AM
Actually, hate to break it to you, but all current Diamond owners need is the ROM update and they should be able to get HSDPA on the 850 band since there is no difference in the actual hardware being used.
HalfJoey @ Jul 29th 2008 11:58AM
How much will this phone cost? I'm still waiting for the Touch Pro. Thats coming to CDMA, right?
Nomi @ Jul 29th 2008 12:17PM
Touch Pro should be cheaper than the diamond, considering the -4gb of internal storage...
rawdikrik @ Jul 29th 2008 12:46PM
@Nomi - Cheaper than the Diamond because it doesnt have 4GB internal Memory?
Are you crazy? Additional Ram, a MicroSD Slot and a keyboard costs ALOT more than 3GB of Memory (90% sure that the Pro comes with 1GB built in)
HalfJoey @ Jul 29th 2008 1:10PM
What kind of price are we talking about here? Anymore more than $200 and im not sure if I'll be interested when the iPhone is $200 w contract.
OneLove @ Jul 29th 2008 12:00PM
Yes please please fix the comment system. (I can fix it for free)
a ham sandwich @ Jul 29th 2008 12:09PM
