According to Sony's latest earnings report, the company's profits have dipped to almost half of what they were at this time last year. Analysts are citing a strengthened yen, the lack of a major Hollywood blockbuster like
Spider-Man 3, and continuing issues with its mobile phone arm as core reasons for the slide. It's no surprise that the company is taking a hit, especially after the
outrageously poor performance of Sony Ericsson, though the numbers reveal that even improved sales of the PS3 this quarter can't sustain losses from core businesses like Sony BMG and fluctuating currency rates. Looks like the champagne will have to stay in the fridge this quarter.
"though the numbers reveal that even improved sales of the PS3 this quarter can't sustain losses..."
wouldn't more sales of the ps3 give them less profits? don't they lose a ton on each ps3 sold?
looks like my boycott of sony is working.
lol
Why is there so much Sony hate? Yes rootkits, expensive. But seriously, instead of "sony going bankrupt" how about "Sony finally releases something useful with all that cash they have"
Because when they get a little success, they grow arrogant again.
Considering that Spider Man 3 was a piece of trash, that's not the best idea. Now if they released Venom the movie.......
@Justin
For some people hating Sony is their life and they get a real kick out of it.
Like this guy:D
I really like Sony Erricson phones...i dont get why other people dont?
Im stuck with a Nokia at the moment and they are very over rated.
SE phones are generally very well made, and most of our (gadget reading) crowd loves them. SE just hasn't been able to sell them like the big guys, in part because of the economics of the phone industry. Folks like Nokia, Samsung and even Moto are volume players with huge distribution which lowers their costs per and makes them more profitable. Lower volume players like SE simply have very little chance, even if they execute a perfect handset.
The wireless industry sucks like that.
The Sony hatred is really random, some people need to grow up.
There product line is not that expensive, i am looking into a new laptop and i priced a vaio and a xps, and the vaio was only $USD 200 more, but with the vaio you get a better screen and mac-style keyboard, also it is not all plastic.
There TVs are top notch and the ps3 is really great value.
Sony always produces top notch electronic products but unfortunately, arrogance has taken over the mind by giving everything in piecemeal fashion with exorbitant price tags. Though it worked out well when Sony worked on its quality and feature than on cost of the product. Now, with turbulent economy everywhere, with very less to spend at the same time people have many choices for better quality while get much better quality from competitors and also these electronic products are at the end of their technology cycle of revolution meaning, people tend to see more of same thing (Projection TV, LCD, Plasma, Mobile Phones, Play Stations, Laptops) so there are not much new entrants in the market. It would be interesting to analyze the performances of other consumer electronic products like Samsung, Panasonic, JVC, Nokia etc…I will not be surprised if they do as good or as bad as Sony.
